I think we've all had that magical back 9, or stretch of holes where you just can't miss. What's your hottest stretch.
Mine was 3 birdies in a row, par, par, bogey, birdie birdie.
    A miracle without a shadow of a doubt !!

Hottest streak was a 39 on the back nine which include 6 par 2 Bogies and a Double for a magical 26 points (off 24) :D

Recently in newlands I birdies 7,8,9 and 10 and lipped out on 11 for another one.

Last year I was +3 after 3 holes. I then had pars to the 12th then I went birdie, par, birdie, birdie, par, birdie for a -1 finish and my PB.

Four birdies on the trot at Slade Valley, sandwiched between double bogeys.

Best 9 has to be at Galgorm Castle. -2 for the back 9 on my way to my best ever round. Absolutely planking it playing the par five 18th.

1 under par for back 9 in Baltray off 13

I was the same. I was -3 on the back 9 level par going onto the 18th at south county. Thought to myself just try get a par for Evans and I'll be delighted. Had an 8iron to the pin for my second and landed about 10foot below the hole. I remember standing over the putt thinking I may never again have a putt for a sub par round so don't regret not giving it a go.

I drilled it right at the cup and it hit the back of it and dropped. If it didn't drop it was 6 feet past.

Impressive streak, I would have said 4 under through 8 if it was me though!

Five 3's to start the back nine in Shannon which equates to
    Par, bird, par, bird, bird

It's all relative, it's all relative (or so I keep telling myself)

    A month ago, I went around in 79 (+7) off HC18*
    1 Birdie, 10 Pars, 8 bogeys,

*The only catch is that it wasn't in one round, it was the back 9 (+3) of ones weeks comp followed by the front 9 (+4) of the following weeks one. :o
No ball was hit in between those to rounds so I've went around 18 consecutive holes in 79 ;)
    (I was +22 for the other two 9's :o )

Best run of holes was level par after 7 holes during the summer, 7 pars on the trot in a casual round of the whites.

    What's a birdie???

7 pars on the trott for HC18 is some going in all fairness.
you obviously bottled it then :P

9 pars between 6th and 16th in Moate including 5 in a row 12th to 16th. Birdie wise I've only ever had 2 in a row twice on 7th and 8th then another day on 8th and 9th.

DB, Bogey finish to sit on 24 points, it was only a casual 9 and wasn't off the backs.
Bottling it has never been an issue, bad shots and an extraordinary ability to make brain farts usually get in the way :o

Speaking of bottling it, what I would give to be able to bottle the way I was feeling over those 7 holes, I was in a zen like trance after I parred the Index 1 1st (for the first time) right through to hitting a really poor shot on 8.
My mate didn't even know I had gone 7 pars (as we weren't marking cards each others cards)... he turned to me and said "it wasn't as if you were playing well"....the Pr**k :D

I wasn't either, just playing good steady golf and making sure I had a decent putt for birdie.

It's such an easy game (once every year, when it doesn't count)

A birdie is when you score one shot less than par on a hole, i.e. a 3 on a par 4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 134 ✭✭clouter

Its all relative of course, but was absolutely ecstatic to get 4 pars in a row during the summer in Rosslare (12hole Burrow Course) from 2nd to 5th especially as I had a 9 on the 1st hole and felt like a complete tool!!! Didn't even bother me that I scratched the last 4 holes!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 849 ✭✭✭ballyk

My best finish to a round was birdie, birdie, par on the Palmer course at the K Club.

My best front 9 was 2 over par (25 points) in round 2 of our club matchplay competition in Ballykisteen. Best back 9 was 3 over par (24 points) in Ballykisteen this year en route to my first club comp win with 45 points.

3 birdies in a row is my best. actually happened in a singles matchplay. went 2, 4, 2. that put me 3up. What makes it even better are those 3 holes have often wrecked a good card. Many times Ive gone 4 6 4.

No - impressive how quickly you got to par and lower - considering your only at it seriously for 3 or 4 years ? - anyway off topic. (from new fan:))

My hottest short streak was starting off with 3 birdies in a row last autumn, chipped in on the 1st, and again on the 2nd, followed by a 4 footer for birdie on 3rd. Ended up 1 under for the round and got a hefty cut as a result.

For a full round in competition, I shot 65 one time about 6 years ago that included 3 missed putts from 2 feet or less (seriously !). One of those misses was for back to back twos, which would have been nice.

Yeah 7 under isn't amazing at all haha

    And I thought I was modest :)

    That's super scoring

just did a google there, most consecutive birdies in a row.

Mark Calcavecchia, 2009 RBC Canadian Open (second round, 65)

    9 birdies in a row !!! That's sick.

Can you just imagine your playing partners' faces in a Sat fourball if you opened up with 9 birdies in a row ?!!

    :-)

Still, something inside you would still be pretty sick to finish with only a 65 after getting 9 birdies on the trott !!

Paul McGinley once said that the secret to golf was hitting two good shots in a row - there's more than a grain of truth in it methinks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,425 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

    Not a birdie machine me.

Have had 2 in a row a couple of times, all in the last year.

In relation to streak had a -2 and a -1 for 9 in last year too. That is a streak for me , sad in a way.

If I have 4 or 5 birdies in a round that is the best I can do, that is a once every 6 month event. Stuff above is insane to me.

Good old Calcavecchia - he is a much forgotten great player.

They all come at once with me, I'm lucky to have 1 a round - 2 a good day.

im not really a streaky player - 2 birdies in a row would be my max.

I once went 28 consecutive holes though without dropping a shot.

    Round 1, 3 birdies and 15 pars.
Round 2, 1 birdie and 9 pars before dropping one at the 11th :)

3 birds in 4 holes earlier this summer in a casual round. Bogie in the middle of that sequence contained probably the best shot of the four holes as well, funnily.

Have had a few streaks over the years, when I think about it, mainly outside of the main playing season. Earlier this year I was 6 under after 6. Finished with 5 birdies about ten years ago, and have had 8 birdies in a round. 6 under for 5 holes about 15 years ago...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭ForeRight

Just remembered another streak I had a few months back.

-4 after 3 holes in Millicent.

    Birdie eagle birdie

Think I hit my buffer after 18 :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭markpauldunne

Again its all relative off 25 Hcap, but In Callan GC Kilkenny
I went from 12th home Bogey (double shot), Bogey (double shot), Par, Bogey, Par, Par Par (20pts in 6 holes) to half with the father in law @ his home course and not pay the money, twas sweet! :P

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,429 ✭✭✭Mr. Larson

Was under par until the 14th once. -3 after 6 holes. Poor finish saw me end up a couple over. I was off 10 at the time so it was a big deal.

I went Birdie, Eagle, Birdie before also on 15, 16 & 17 coming as close as I ever have to a hole in one on the 17th. Was a kick-in Birdie.

Those heady days of good golf are a distant memory now :). If I can get 2 Birdies in 18 holes now I'm a happy camper!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 852 ✭✭✭kelbal

I had 5 points after 5 holes on Sunday - then parred my way home to finish level on 24 points (12 holes). Kickin myself - bit of concentration at the start would have had me the hamper :o

best round was shooting a 78, off 16 at the time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 492 ✭✭TrapperChamonix

par, par, par, bogie, par, par, par, bogie, par for 24 pts on the front nine.

4 under for 9 holes many years ago. I couldn't play on and complete the round due to lack of daylight. It was one of those rounds where every putt went in.

For some reason I'm picturing the guy in caddy shack playing in the storm going for the course record

Mine was only 2 weeks ago. +1 for the front nine, 1 birdie, 6 pars and 2 bogies. 10 pars and 1 birdie over the 18. Earlier this year also finished a round with 6 straight pars at Knockanally.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,827 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

Best I managed streak wise was after a bad start to a round. Went double double bogey to be 5 over through 3 holes.

Then played the next 9 holes in -1, 8 pars with 1 birdie thrown in the middle.

Problem after that was that I realised I'd just played 9 holes under par & started defensive golfing, typical!
