Most impressed. Hopefully the rest of the EU can follow Germany's example.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24767225

The law in Germany has been following a review of cases which revealed great unhappiness.
In one case, a person with no clear gender-defining genitalia was subjected to surgery. The person said many years later: "I am neither a man nor a woman. I will remain the patchwork created by doctors, bruised and scarred."
German passports, which currently list the holder's sex as M for male or F for female, will have a third designation, X, for intersex holders, according to the interior ministry.

You gotta feel sorry for the Germans, even if they do amazingly good things, somebody will always bring it back to the Nazis.

"I am neither a man nor a woman"

Passport Office: "Ok, but can you just pick one for the form then, or flip a coin, heads man, tails woman??"

Does seem more a step of PCism too far, where soon it might be even taboo to even raise the subject of genderification social norms.

Greatest thing that ever happened to the British, the Nazis. It made tge greatest cnuts in history seem like heroes, and the Germans took over their previous role.

Did you even bother to read the article? These babies are born with male and female characteristics. They are both male and female, and their parents often feel pressurised into surgery so their babies can conform to the usual norms. Which means that babies only a few months old can have drastic, unwarranted surgery simply to conform. This law means that the genders can be classed as indeterminate, giving parents more time to figure out a course of action.

So basically, it stops a situation where babies undergo surgery. How could that not be a good thing?!

Womens would make most sense, since people are in cubicles unless its one of hte rare ones which might have female urinals.

I never got why some women get so mad/upset at the thought of a man going into the womens toilets, theres nothing to see. Yet when a pub is jammed with no room in the womens toilets some women seem to think they have every right to go to the gents, where genitals could be easily viewed.

Not sure why they need male/female called out on passports anyways, it could be to determine who can search them, which brings out the other question, why do they not offer people a choice of which sex frisks them, its weird they seem to presume everybody will be more comfortable with their own sex doing it.

They might call out height or eye colour on some passports, but this is clearly visible to the person looking at you at the gate.

It's also about what's comfortable for the frisker not the friskee.

Wouldn't a more appropriate id for the passport be 'I' for indeterminate?

'X' has an awfully negative connotation.

How many people will this new legislation benefit? Like 3 people?

Probably because indeterminate isn't a German word and 'X' would be probably understood worldwide.

especially when it has a chromosomal meaning pertaining to sex.

They murdered millions of innocent people, maybe that's something to do with it.

    Seriously, trivial to find out.
    Wikipedia wrote:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intersex#PrevalenceThe prevalence of intersex depends on which definition is used. According to the ISNA definition above, 1 percent of live births exhibit some degree of sexual ambiguity.[9] Between 0.1% and 0.2% of live births are ambiguous enough to become the subject of specialist medical attention, including surgery to assign them to a given sex category (i.e. male or female). According to Fausto-Sterling's definition of intersex,[10] on the other hand, 1.7 percent of human births are intersex.[10]

Took me longer to type the reply than find the answer.

The above implies that this issue affects a minimum of 80,000 Germans.

If you got a job which involved frisking you would be told in advance.

It would be similar to a doctors, if you went into a surgery with several doctors you would usually be able to request a male or female doctor, whoever you are most comfortable with. The doctors know fine well they will have to be willing to examine both sexes.

Or they could just have a frisker who is more comfortable to frisk the opposite sex.

"They" are all elderly at best, mostly already dead, but good job channelling the spirit of their ancestors there with the prejudice.

No they didn't. Some of their parents or at this stage grandparents did but quite a small proportion of Germans that are alive today were involved in it.

This is a reasonably good idea for the very small number of people who, for a variety of medical reasons, are born of an indeterminent gender.

But it will, undoubtedly, be hijacked by loons who have a boy or girl but decide it's best for him/her if they raise him/her gender neutral.

But seriously, Germany paid it's debts, for what cruelty was done under Hitler, and I think, it's time to move on. A country and it's people should not be judged by a decade or two of horror all the time.

I moved to Germany 5 months ago. My job is paying me a third more per year than my job in Ireland did. I get more holidays by a third than I did in Ireland. I don't pay a cent for medicide or doctors visits. I once needed an ambulance, and it took less than 3 minutes to arrive with a doctor and 2 medics. My rent is a third cheaper than it was in Ireland, as is the cost of food/drink. The socialist "help everyone, everyone is equal" attitude here is astounding. But they should all still be ashamed of what happened over 70 years ago, what their ancestors did. Lets not give them any credit for anything, ever. Cúnts!
