for those who bemoan lack of time and funds this woman demonstrates how to make 40 homecooked meals for her family in just 4 hours and in a low budget.

Thought it was going to be a link to Furious Pete's Youtube channel.

always had the idea to do it, but not the motivation or organizational skills.

I won't copy her recipes but just having all my food done for each day of the week is a great idea.

Lidl has a slow cooker for 20euros this week for those wanting to join the slow cooker master race.

I have a slow cooker and would love to try something like this, but I'm often out of the house for 10 or 11 hours. Is this too long to leave something cooking for?

I also have an illogical fear of the house burning down if I leave the slow cooker unattended.

You can get them in Tesco/argos any day for 20ish and on Amazon regularly.

It's the one time you don't need to worry about price. There is no difference between an expensive one or a cheap one. So get the cheapest one you see with high low settings

Even get them for 30 odd in house of fraiser/debenhams

Got mine for 18 in Tesco a year ago. Most useful item in my kitchen

GEt a timer plug so that it doesn't turn on for a couple of hours and is ready when you get home.

I recently moved house and haven't got a freezer (just the crappy ice box at the top of the fridge) so this woman is just teasing me with her organisation.

In the words of police chief Brody, "you're gonna need a bigger freezer".

Can you "roast" a joint of beef or similar in one of these?

Yes. If it's big enough for the roast / the roast is small enough for the cooker.

I normally get tougher roasts for the pot but slice them up as its easier for portioning. Brisket is good, shanks are good.

    This.

The slow cooker is great for those cuts of meat - well, anytime I've used the old man's slow cooker at home. Cooking it low and slow allows the muscle (or the collagen in the muscle) to breakk down giving you a nice tender piece of meat as opposed to a chewy piece if you cooked it more quickly at a higher temperature.

My parents picked one up based on my reviews, I was in their house one day and saw my cazy auld lad had the lid strapped on with one of his belts because the the joint he had bought was to big.
