Basic Machine Tool Course for Hobbyists?

Does anyone know if basic techniques in milling and lathe work (metal) are taught anywhere for newbies/hobbyists - just wondering about possible evening courses or summer courses. Lathe that I would be working with would be very small, e.g. Unimat 3 or Sherline. Course obviously wouldn't have to be based on that smallness.

i done the "toolroom machine operations" coarse years ago through Fas, i found it quiet interesting and enjoyable, as far as i reacall it was for 12 weeks fulltime, ie during the day 9-4ish five days a week, it covered everything you're looking for

FAS in Dundalk run a 10 week night time one. Did it myself a few months back but the waiting list was several weeks. Look up eng related courses in the north east region on their website and it should be there if it is still running. Excellent instructor too on it.
