Why do mobile broadband ISPs insist on providing minuscule data allowances...??

As in title - seriously, WHY ?

My only option now is mobile broadband, for broadband, and the fecking low low allowances of 10-30GB is beyond pathetic..! But ofc, the Government still considers this to be on par with 500GB-Unlimited Broadband under their NBS... I'd be more than happy if they had the decently to give 100GB at least!

Why can't there be a competitive provider that uses the tech to provide home users actual broadband in rural areas...

e.g. -

That's off a 4G [3G actually] package - Hell of a lot better than Ripplecom that I was with... but the 20GB makes the speed pretty useless to make use off... hit the cap rapidly if watching a few movies off Netflix and the like, or downloading software that are up to 10GB....!

Only way to get those kinda speeds is to limit the data allowance otherwise the more people download the more your speeds will suffer, Three's is the best with 60gb but their service is very hit and miss

I know of Three's option, but they've got a rather bad reputation - so I wouldn't want to put up with them for 12 months if it turned out bad...

I found Vodafone's speeds to have deminished pretty badly recently, on full strength reception you'd get anywhere from between 5-10 mbit/sec but now i'd be lucky to get a 1mbit/sec. That's the biggest problem really with mobile broadband, service is so unreliable.

I don't understand why they can't have an option for people in rural areas, that'd be eligible for a higher cap.

Fixed wireless is your best bet in rural areas, they have fairly high caps but a lot of them tend to suffer from congestion during peak hours.

I was with Ripplecom, they were completely rubbish in comparison to this current mobile broadband connection. I've got no other FWA providers in my area.

Same boat as yourself, I was with a crowd called RuralBroadband, had to cancel after a week as it was just a joke. Waiting on one other crowd to do a site visit, if that's a no go i'll be with Three for the longhaul.

Absolutely true and perfectly fine if you are lucky enough to have fixed wireless coverage in your area....

Unfortunately not all of us have this option nor any other "real" broadband options and are "stuck" with the mobile broadband.
