 Just a general query folks. If a couple separate, one party usually gets the family home. If the other party wants to build a house would the planners generally view that as a favourable reason for granting planning permission. ?
I could ask over in 'construction' but I think anybody with actual experience of this would give more relevant answers.

Hi. If a couple seperating with no kids, own a house, the general rule is one buys out the other or the house could be ordered to be sold under a judicial seperation if a couple could not agree. If their kids involved, a stay could be put on any sale until the kids are finished school/college etc. They are a few options but with joint ownership, one person does not automatically get the house.

I would think planners would not or could not allow the situation you described to allow a favourable decision in relation to planning, unless of course, their is a brown bag involved, sorry, i couldnt resist:D

    Thanks for that.
I actually asked over in construction and of course nobody knows- its really a hypothetical question. My fear would be that I would end up in rented accommodation and the planners would say I have 'no housing need'. The best advice is probably to talk to the planners - without any brown bags being produced !
