Letters are being issued for next years property tax:mad:

Have a letter here and it says to pay by post it needs to done by the 7th November 2013.

To pick your payment method online you have until the 27th November 2013
which i think means if you choose online payment you pay it there and then.

A once off full direct debit will be processed on 21st march 14
or monthly direct debit on the 15th of each month commencing 15th Jan

    More info here

They sent my letter to my parents house, despite the fact that I don't live there anymore and my principal place of residence is my apartment in Dublin!

Have you informed them of that move though?

This is what happens when you trawl for data across multiple sources with little thought given to quality.

Full amount due on January 1

    Happy new year!

It pays to actually buy\value a house in the lower bracket, as it will bite you as a yearly expense. A lesson to home buyers, get the purchase price below that band which makes it "less expensive" on a yearly basis.

    Its basic economics
Cost of collecting accurate data V cost of collecting data with allowances for errors

As above did the poster above inform revenue of change if address.

I pay directly from my wages as it's the easiest way

Yup. I paid my property tax on time AND they took it again direct from my tenants salary

I paid it as a lump sump this year, but I'll probably take that option this year.

All the council seem to have done round my way this year is hack down the trees. Tree that used to be on our street is gone, same with other streets. Last week they took down a load of trees on the other side of the main road. Don't know what their motivation for that was. I now had a view of the river valley, but it looks weird.

    Anyway, off topic.

Didnt pay the household charge, didnt pay 2013 pt , dint pay septic tank charge amd you can guess whats going to happen with this 2014 tax. They can go and fcuk! i dont mind going away inside for non payment because i could do with some time on my own. Sute i could even avail of the free education system when in there at the expense of the tax payer.

You also don't seem to mind causing other people's electricity bills to get higher, going on your other threads on here. Classy.

Several times, yes. It was also ticked as my main place of residence or whatever you had to do on the original form too!

Prison is probably the best place for you. Do you pay road tax and car insurance? Or are you a special case?

am I the only one who hasn't received a letter re 2014 property tax ?

I dont believe i received one either unless there was post yesterday?? I also don't remember how i paid it last year, i remember being appalled by the lack of confirmation mail from the system knowing full well that id be sitting here now trying to figure out how i had paid it.

I don't think they know either. I paid mine directly, by credit card, in plenty of time. Then six months later they took it again out of my tenants salary.

Ah, that explains why I can't get through on the phone lines to register a place.

I've mine in by direct debit. Need to add another for 2014 though and the phones are off the hook it seems.

On holidays or living?;) If on holidays then I am really impressed and a little scared. If living then minimum expectation :D

It took 3 years for me to get all Revenue materials sent to my address the last time, then I moved again. They seem to have multiple databases.

    From Revenue website:

Revenue will not be writing to you if you paid your 2013 LPT by phased payment method (i.e. deduction at source from salary/occupational pension or from certain Government payments or direct debit) or if you deferred the full charge. Your current payment method will automatically apply for 2014 so there is no need to contact Revenue. However, if you wish to change your payment method, you can do so on-line by using your Property ID, PIN and PPS number by 27 November 2013

Yeah I've noticed this as well. I've changed contact details with them several times over the last few years and something always ends up being sent to an old address.

The PAYE & Income Tax/Collector General's data is definitely not linked up. ROS will show one address while PAYE Anytime will show another. I've seen this in my own case myself.

you prob wont go to jail, it will just be deducted from any future sale price on your property (your solicitor will have to deduct it from the sale price and issue to revenue), and if you have passed on at that stage your family will have the benefit of a nice big tax bill plus interest and penalties to deal with.

I cant see any way of avoiding it but it is of course your choice

are any of the usual suspects exempted from the property tax out of interest?

    From Rte news

Property owners who opt to pay the Local Property Tax for 2014 using a debit card, credit card or cheque will have to pay by next month, according to the Revenue Commissioners.

Revenue is to write to 960,000 property owners asking how they intend paying next year's tax.

People who made a single payment this year are asked to contact Revenue to let them know their preferred payment option for 2014.

Revenue has said 46% of householders paid the tax for 2013 by cheque, cash, credit card or debit card.

They will have to contact Revenue in the coming weeks.

Those making paper tax returns must select a payment option by 7 November.

People filling out tax returns online have until 27 November.

Local Property Tax Manager with the Revenue Commissioners Vivienne Dempsey told RTÉ News: "If you are paying at source, so through your wages or your pension, then it will come out on your first payment in January and be spread evenly across the year to December.

This is appalling. I thought my property tax was due in July next year. Did I just miss all these official deadlines for the coming year being communicated or did they decide the dates like 3 weeks ago?
They only wrote to me in October saying I hadn't paid this year's when I had.
No Christmas for me it seems :(

Cheers thanks for that Nina I paid by DD so that makes sense. I don't understand anybody paying up front.

There is no interest penalty for paying monthly DD so why should I give the government all the money up front ?

    Insanity.

Does anyone know what the correct address is for paying by single debit authority ,eg LPT revenue ,because it does not seem to be on web or letter from revenue?

Some bank accounts charge per DD. Might be one reason not to pay that way

I paid the extortionist bas***ds in cash at the local council office last time. I won’t be answering their letter about how I intend to pay this year. It’s enough to pay the stupid banker-aid tax, which I will reluctantly do but they can take a hike if they expect me to let them know in advance how I intend to pay.

Local and European elections in May of 2014 will give people a chance to let the wan*ers who came up with this tax (Fianna Fail and the horrible Green Party) and the ones who are now holding a gun to people’s heads (Fine Gael and the so-called Labour Party) what they think about their tax ideas. Equally, the people here on Boards.ie who like the property tax idea so much will have a chance to vote again for the people who are picking their pockets.

    Insanity is a strong word:D
Some people like the certainty of having bills cleared whether this, their car insurance or whatever. There is really not much benefit in holding off other than a small cashflow improvement.

    .

It matters if you paid up by debit card like i did this year. They now expect me to pay up front again in December for next year i.e. thats 1 & 1/2 years property tax in 2013 . NOT what Enda promised which was 1/2 years property tax in 2013.
To avoid this I can't pay by debit card but (by letting them know by 27th Nov) have to switch to DD or Single Payment from my bank account in March which at least buys three months

Enda's promises are about as useful as a candle on a motorbike or watching Ruairi Quinn, hand on heart before the General Election promising not to shaft the students. I pay in cash because it makes it a wee bit awkward for them - they would just love to have everyone pay by direct debit or credit card.

If everyone paid in cash they'd charge even more to cover the admin costs. Biting of your nose to spite your face really.

I don't understand why payments made by debit/credit card must be made by November 27th. The letter I received tells me that this date is only a deadline for selecting and committing to my payment option. However when I log on to the site and choose this option I am brought immediately to another site where I have to make the payment there and then. :(

I am quite happy to tell them I will pay by debit card. Why can't I do this and then log on at a later date to make the actual payment? If the two processes are somehow inseparable, why not extend this deadline until January 1st at the earliest?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭kingstown

100% agree. I know a person in revenue who said ' the people who make these decisions are so far removed from reality you wouldnt believe'.

This has turned out to be a real " no brainer " for the guy who decided to insist on citizens to pay a 2014 liability in November 2013. Exactly - no brain...!

yet this idiot will still get the support of his senior colleagues because its better to stick together rather than expose a fool in their mist.
These people dont have to account to anyone and have no ability to understand that some older people may prefer to pay by old fashion cheque and now are penalise by doing so

Have you checked the amount due online ?? Same happened in my letter but when I logged in to their online, amount due = what I paid x 2 (full year)

I paid last year online , and the letter I received seems to expect I'm going to do the same this year !
In fact I was planning to pay by cash at my local post office this time round but the letter doesn't tell me how I can notify Revenue of this - still confuded here despite all the Revenue speak on radio & TV over last week !:confused:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,093 ✭✭✭Dbu

I have been on hold since 3.40pm
answered by a call centre and then forwarded to the revenue, voice message now says my call should be answered in 17mins

Its 16.53pm something tells me by five I will get cut off......i hate this crap

This piano is driving me crazy

There is an option 6 on the form where you can tick 'full amount' and it says pay cash at one of the service providers. that's the post office or certain shops.I just put x in that box and posted the form back. If they don't sent anything back I'll just go to post office at end december with my details and pay it.

Didn't receive a form - just a double sided letter, stating "You should select a payment option online by accessing your LPT REcord via www. revenue.ie etc On the reverse side " A step by step instruction to selecting a payment option online" ????
The issue is that this year I propose to pay at the Post Office by cash, no mention of how to notify Revenue that I wish to exercise this option in the letter !!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27 lovechips

I received a letter plus a separate form plus a freepost envelope .I paid through the post office last year even though I submitted my details online.
The form had to be posted back and definately had an option to tick that I would be paying in cash.
it didn't say if I would get anything back but according to this I bring in my pps number and the post office does the rest.

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/lpt/payment-options/cash-payments.html#section1

Last year I just got a small receipt nothing too professional and Revenue got my payment.

Appears that if you paid online last year they expect same this year ?? as I didn't get a form or a postfree envelope for reply ?
