Ulster take on Cardiff blues with both teams coming off impressive results in the Heineken Cup last weekend. Ulster went to France and got a famous win against Montpellier while Cardiff ran out 19-16 winners against last season's European Champions Toulon.

A strong line up for both teams tonight which will hopefully lead to a good game. Ulster must be targeting this game for a win despite the strong opposition - the attitude adopted by the Blues remains to be seen.

Stuart Olding starts at full back for Ulster for the first time in the senior team while Payne slots in at 13, with Darren Cave dropping to the bench in what must be a frustrating week.

Callum Black gets the nod ahead of Tom Court at loosehead, with Robbie Diack in to replace the injured Iain Henderson, with Mike McComish also coming in to the squad to replace Nick Williams.

John Afoa is a late replacement at tight head for Declan Fitzpatrick who has injured himself again, I am unsure if it is snatterbox related or not.

    Prediction

Ulster win, possibly gaining their second try bonus point of the season. I think the game will be tight until near the end, with Ulster just having too much for Cardiff over the 80 minutes.

Belfast Telegraph says he 'failed a fitness test'.

With the latest updates on next years HEC and the fact that a top 6 place would ultimately be required should it go ahead I wonder will we see a bit of a change in Cardiffs approach to the Pro12? After last weeks win as well they must be coming into this one confident. It's amazing that going into this game we really have no idea what Cardiff team is going to show up.

Interested to see what Olding can offer at 15 but would prefer if he was playing 13 with Payne there instead.

Ulster got a try BP against Treviso btw.

Are Ulster going down the NFL 'Breast Cancer Awareness Month' road with the socks this evening, or does my telly need adjusting?

  • Administrators Posts: 54,830 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Yes it's pink night at Ravenhill.

Cardiff start by putting the ball out on the full from the kick off.

Payne try. That's just intelligence right there.

Penalty from a scrum and took it quick.

Payne try from Ulster scrum quick tap out wide by Ruan clas

    try, awful from Cardiff.

Cardiff Lions doing the usual disappearing act. Jenkins is getting embarrassed

I've always felt Callum Black is underrated. Good player. There's a silly amount of depth at loosehead in Ireland

Has Jackson been kicking in the Heineken Cup?

Missed a few if I remember. The two he missed there were difficult enough to be fair.

True, although you would expect him to get a bit closer.

Patchell for the Blues is too fond of running in to contact.

what the hell was Trimble at there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,681 ✭✭✭✭P_1

Copeland is going quite well lately. Has he been capped at any Irish level yet? Wouldn't do to see the welsh nab him on residency.

Feck, Halfpenny shanks a kick, is there a blue moon tonight or something

Losing both Best and Muller is bound to have had an effect TBH

Olding showing his class there, but I suspect Marshall moved twice.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,830 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Nope, perfectly fine. Marshall try following some Olding brilliance.

Olding is out of this world, fantastic prospect, that was a second row he shrugged off
