Best offline Map/GPS app?

    Hey,

Heading away to Berlin in a couple of weeks and wondering what the best offline mapping app would be? I won't have any sort of decent roaming plan so hoping to avoid switching data on. Ideally something that would be searchable for places of interest/bars/clubs etc, even just to find out which subway station etc, is near it. I know Google Maps now has an offline mode where you can save maps to the device but apparently the area that you can save it extremely limited to the point of uselessness. I'd be willing to pay a couple of € for something decent. Anyone any ideas?

    Cheers!

Try osmand. Even has offline nav. To see what is actually mapped look on openstreetmaps.org - it's crowd sourced mapping and I'd say Berlin is really well covered down to building level.

By the way it's free :-)

we used navfree on a recent trip to the usa - and it was fine.
downloaded the maps for the states we were going in advance.
it routed us there fine, just the time estimates were off a bit

I used http://www.stay.com/ while traveling around some major cities in Europe. You can add your own places, info, opening times, booking references, contact details, etc to create your own custom maps. Found it very useful but haven't tried either of the above so can't compare.

Yeah, you'd be better off with an app that has touristy info, and maps.
You'll probably not be driving anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions, will install all of em on the phone anyway so i've got options! Won't be driving, just need something that can tell me how to get from A - B by public transport really

I used Tripadvisor for Amsterdam and found it invaluable; would definitely give it a recommendation :D

I'll second the TripAdvisor app recommendation, also google maps offline might work better than you think, one download will cover New York plus some of Long Island and you can do more than one download ;-)
Check on google play for mass transport apps and maps, lots of major cities have them now. If you need to pay for something [heavens forbid !-] you can use 3Pay
