Is the uk shop much cheaper than the irl one or something?!

With PM to PM does the recipient have to pay €3.50 too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,573 ✭✭✭A2LUE42

Could be very useful for Adverts.ie and the like.

So how do you send the parcel at the motel?
And is the charge just the send fee, or do you get charged the receive fee too?

I feel like one of those guys in the tracker mortgage ads - I've never used Parcel Motel (:o) but it does sound useful alright and cheap when looking at their site.

Anyone used the Motel in Sandyford as that'd probably be my closest. Is it 24/7 etc?

€16.50 to send up to 10kg to UK is very good.

Was just about to post about this went to pick up a package this morning and noticed a send package button on screen beside the collect package one.

Might be handy for returns of items if its cheaper then other was to send stuff to the Uk.

The uk had a sale with 50% off then a code to get 40% off that so 70% off overall. Spent £28 and got 4 body butters, 2 lotions 2 peach scrubs for £22.80 - over €140 on the irish site. Christmas sorted for a few people, then got a voucher for £10 off purchases over £25 which also gives free delivery lol.

It costs around the same to send a 10kg parcel with pm as a 1kg parcel with an post. 10kg parcel with an post registered is €19. Not to mention if I have to post on dole day / pension day / 5 o clock / market day I could be waiting 20 mins. Then have to wait for the clerk to register the parcel in the book etc.

that's a great point. queue's in the post office are terrible.

Why wouldnt the receiver pay? You are paying to send the item via parcel motel i.e. no queuing etc. and they are paying to receive the item via parcel motel as opposed to their home.

True, now that I think about it that makes sense.

Sending to a Parcelmotel is €4.50 for a small package under 10kg.

Sending to an Irish address is €9.50 for a small package under 10kg.

For lightweight, small packages within Ireland, An Post probably still cheaper.

For heavier small packages within Ireland, Parcel Motel is the way to go.

Still good to have the choice.

Yeah I seen the charges on the website but what is unclear is whether the receiver of the package has to pay any charge also. I got told no via email, but the above poster got told yes over the phone.

I'd say that it's the receiver will pay if he/she is using parcelmotel to receive it.
i.e. if you're sending from parcelmotel to parcelmotel you pay to send and they pay the normal 3.50 parcelmotel fee.

I think they are shooting themselves in the foot a bit with the pricing of this. If someone sends something from one parcelmotel to another parcelmotel its €X (depends on size etc) + €3.50 at the other person's end. However to send it to a home address of the other person is just €X. Surely it's less work for the company to deliver to a parcelmotel box than a person's home but they are not charging accordingly. Most of us use parcelmotel to get cheaper items from the uk, I would think and have other deliveries like amazon etc delivered to workplace, parents etc. where it will be a guaranteed delivery.

    €X + €3.50 to another PM

    €X + €3.50 + €1.50 to another address.

As far as I know guys its just a straight fee:

I don't think the receiver pays, that would be kind of pointless?

    Heres their pricing table:

    looks like they've changed it.

Its from €4.50 to send and free for the person to collect.

And in the newsletter they just send it's marked as
You can even send from one Parcel Motel to another for as little as €4.50 and it's free for the recipient to collect.

So the charge for the receiver is gone, that is great.

On other hand there is 100% increase in prices of oversized packages, used to be 3.50 and now is 7.00... last time I checked inflation was not that high.

I already have an Advert up saying delivery will be by Parcel Motel. They can then choose a Location or their Home Address. More expensive if they choose the Home address but then again it's signed for and good value.

I wonder do you have to package and label an item if your sending it? Or maybe you enter the PMID and name of recipient when checking the item into a locker and nothing else is needed...

Will they provide packaging? Do you just pop the item you are selling on adverts.ie for example into the parcel motel machine and they do the rest?

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

No you have to pack it and print out a label (includes a barcode) from the parcel motel website and attach it to your package. It sounds similar to the way you have to print out a boarding card for flying.

What would be great is if they printed out the sticky label at the Parcel Motel lockers for you. That would save a lot of hassel.

Was thinking about getting something oversized that would have had to be picked up from a depot, waited too long I guess!

This is brilliant news, as if there is one thing I HATE doing its going to the post office etc to post something. It's never open when I'm not in work and generally a pain in the ass. Now I can package it and drop it in my PM up the road. Done!

So how do you pay exactly? Do you have to have credit on your account first and then plug it in on the machine and put it in the box?

You pay and then print your label online, you can't pay from the locker.

This is very interesting. I have a listing currently on ebay, it's only 250g but becausee it's bigger than letterbox I need to charge £21 to send registered post to uk.
I think I will look in to this some more & add cheaper postage options.
It will be great for selling because people can't falsly deny they received a parcel or it was received late..

eta does From a Parcel Motel to another Parcel Motel - mean only within Ireland? or can I send a parcel to a PM in Uk for only €4.50?

I've used PM before, for getting stuff from the UK, very handy - but for delivery of items, within Ireland, I highly recommend trying Fastway.
You can book your parcels online at parcelconnect.ie, it's the cheapist I could find (€8.60 if under 2kg), next day signed for delivery, and they come to your house to pick it up!

I've been using them for about 3 months, and can't fault them.
They don't deliver to NI or the UK, so PM has a clear advantage here.

btw - I'm not affiliated with Fastway in anyway. :)

Depends on the quantity your sending. For my anything to Ireland north or south is €6 up to 30kg with Fastway and to the uk same weight is. €12 and Europe is €18 all plus vat. Best by far

In all fairness, I always wondered why the price was so low for what you referred to. Still a good deal for the oversized at €7 IMO.
