Don't see an up to date thread on calf prices, so here we go!

    Anyone buy any calves yet?
    What are prices like?
Don't think I'll be rearing any this back-end, but if the price is €100 less than last year, I may be tempted...

Can see calves been scarce enough till next April as they've a lot of potential super levy milk to drink up!!.

the lad that was using it got it from kw forages i think. He's only 22 and started out last year with 30 HO stores. Put them on kale for the winter and fattened them in spring off grass. He has 120 of em this year on 40 acres of kale. Said he made a nice bit of money last year at minimal cost

I suppose they are bull calves, herselfs son keeps Jerseys in Cornwall, and he's got 6 or so bulls about 12 months old and they are starting to be a bit bold.

I know they get quite nasty when they are a bit older.

Does anyone know if they are castrated, do they still develope the meanness, I might get a couple of them instead of heifers, if they stay friendly.

Jerseys are like AA and FR as bulls they are b##tards as bullocks they are fine and quite. How often did you see a dangerous LM bull as a bullock he always at the other end of the field.

It is not so much age as at what stage they are developed at. I find as they hit 400kgs you better watch out

ill keep an eye on em over the winter so, your right with that alright, as soon as we start to put the weight on them in the shed they would get very bold.
any ideas what I could do with these boyos?

Just store over winter get to grass early they should finish around 550-600kgsLW they will kill less than 300kgs

A reputable company that had been mentioned on this thread a few times bought them. I rang them and got money transferred to my account. Thought I was saving time by selling from yard. Rest of them going to mart on Tuesday will have cheque home with me

they where fairly decent calves in fairness. Spoke with a lad who was at mart yesterday 60-70 was the run of the mill for normal fr bulls. some where as low as 40... he bought 2 blues, 1 bull nice calf 290 and a heifer 250, he also had a fr bull calf in the trailer which was about 4 weeks old he paid 100 for it
