The Ryder Jug 2013 Thread

Well lads, I think this great event deserves a thread of its own.

Last year we had the inaugural "Ryder Jug" tournament when the Reps society in Dublin were left without opposition for their annual end of year match play event. We gladly stepped in and the Ryder Jug Matchplay event was created!!

This year as ye all know - we done a qualification process to make sure the regular attendees of the Society events were rewarded with a much sought after spot on the team!!

We're teeing off at 11:30 in the Heritage Golf Club and hopefully the weather gods will be kind to us again this year.........and we bring home the cup for a second year running.

Both our Captain and the Reps captain have agreed to add a little suspense to the event this year too - they are picking the pairings and order of play in secret and not unveiling them until the morning of the Match!! We are going to play to our GUI handicaps (now aren't some of ye happy with those big cuts recently!!!!!!!!;) ) and for the one or two of us without one we will be off our Society Handicaps. Can i ask everyone playing to send either me or pistolpetes11 their current GUI handicap (or as of the last society event please?!)

All other info will be posted here during the week and all the banter and "what ifs / bragging rights" for after the event!

For the lads who haven't played the course before, ye will be paired with lads who have but there is a course guide floating around (it has been removed from the website so were not going to post it here but might be available via pm)

    One last thing...............BRING IT ON!!!:D

Jaysus. This is all too edgy. One minute it is a pm. Then not , then saturday.

Is this all part of the team psychology.

    I love who I am with :D

whats the story with the handicaps. Does everyone just play off their own handicap or does the low man go to scratch and 3/4 difference/full difference from that ?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,808 Mod ✭✭✭✭Keano

Lowest man goes to scratch and full difference from him.

Em - I don't want to be the slow lad at the back of the class :o:)

SO the higher lad gets the differential

    So A off 5, B off 20, = A-B = 15

    B = 15.

    So

    If B = 15 therefore A = 0 (last bit a joke) (But right):)

It's the lowest of the four including te other team.
    So A(5)B(15) vs. C(12)D(3)

    Will be:
    A(2)B(12) vs. C(9)D(0)

"well holy god" - there is me worry about me short game" - It could be the maths is me downfall. :)

What are these lads reps for - I won't be coming off the course with new blinds or carpets and lino.

Hit the range yesterday, don't tell my playing partner but couldn't hit it out of my way. I don't know what it is about ranges but the ball goes 30yds right one minute then 30yds left the next. So stopped very quickly with the long irons and just practiced the pitching.

Alway have a good plan when heading to the range but it never seems to work out!

    Some of these responses....

I think we need a bit of the Roy Keane treatment from the captains.

I like the spirit ssbob going to the puting green in the dark ? :)

I'm pulling out my leaving cert maths book after that handicap error.

    We're getting pissed on

The morning might not be too bad and the first couple of groups might be dry for the first 2 or 3 holes, but then in comes the rain and it hangs around till about 6 or 7 :)

    Is my prediction

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 7,146 Mod ✭✭✭✭pistolpetes11

I have seen and play in worse weather ,

Seems to be getting a little better as the week wares on ,

There may be a decent breeze to contend with in between the showers ,

Again the charts tomorrow will tell more ,

The earlier you get out might be better ,

Or maybe not Im not sure but it will be damp , dont know if I like to get a few dry holes in then soaked or just get a soaking for the off which will allow my to get used to the conditions

I'm not going to complain about the weather, looking forward to a game as I haven't been out in a couple of weeks. I actually hope the wind picks up, might just blow the rain away from us.
