Starting paleo

    Hey everyone!

I'm considering following a paleo diet. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on starting, things they would have done differently if they were starting again etc? I had a completely bread/wheat/dairy free day up until I started feeling awful and shakey, gave in an had a chocolate bar and bagel. :o

Any tips are much appreciated, as I always struggled keeping my diet clean. :o

I am by no means a paleo expert, but i have spent the last year-year and a half doing various diets/training regimes etc etc. I have done Intermittent fasting, leangains, LCHF, carb loading and cyclical ketogenic dieting and my own personal view would be that cutting out any one food type (Carbs being the main one) will always yield short term (and sometimes long term) results. I, like you, struggle with keeping my diet clean. I found that being on a strict, regimented diet with tangible limits helped to keep me on track and I did very well.....up until I cracked and devoured all before me :o
Where are you going with this inane rambling I hear you say.....well, I am following your other thread about starting 5 x 5 and I note that you are making a lot of changes in your life at the moment which is great but just be careful that you dont try to do too much at once. This is what I have done previously and when I failed on one part of my "new" regime (say, by missing a training session, or having too many carbs) then I tended to say f**k it, i'll start again on Monday....which became Tuesday......which became......
You are doing really well with you training at the moment, and all of this extra exertion will require more fuel so I would suggest easing yourself into a more sustainable change. Start tracking your calorie intake and try to stay in a caloric deficit for a while if you are trying to lose weight. Once you start to learn more about food and the nutritional content of different foods then you can start to reduce you intake of the foods which are unhealthy for you. I wouldn't cut anything out completely as you can sometimes start to obsess about that one thing you cant have and you end up "feeling awful and shakey, gave in an had a chocolate bar and bagel" ;)
Sorry for rambling on but I just wanted to chip in before the "paleos" came along because I see a real trend lately of people recommending paleo (or keto or 5 x 5 or starting strength) as being the answer to everything whereas I have decided to forget about dieting for now, eat healthy, whole, unprocessed foods 90-95% of the time and concentrate more on training my ass off for the time being and see how I get on.
I know this was quiet a long winded response and reading back on it I am not sure if I even answered your question but maybe you will get something from this overly long response.

You know what, that is probably the best response I could have gotten. :pac: Cheers for that johny, I think I'll just try and focus of eating clean for now. I'm already having trouble juggling college, diet, training as it is, I'm not sure why I was trying to make it harder for myself. :pac:

    Thanks again!
