Have any of you seen the new book. Faith of the Fatherless: The Psychology of Atheism, by Paul C. Vitz?
atheism arises in people with dead, absent, or abusive fathers

What do you think? Interesting thesis.

What you quoted is one of the most disgusting things you can say about a person. I don't judge individuals solely on their beliefs alone who's this guy to judge me.

That guy is definitely insecure about his faith if that's the best (or even a valid) reason he thinks atheism arises.

I'm sure it does. I'm equally sure religion arises in people with dead, absent, or abusive fathers. And that both atheism and religion arises in people with great fathers

Not particularly. It sounds like something a first year philosophy student might come up with for a project worth 10% to a module. Does he have any data that shows there's even a correlation, never mind a causal link?

Mod note: I think that if this belongs anywhere on this forum, it belongs on the atheism megathread.
