Krokodil (Crocodile) - Flesh-Eating Drug

Their is a flesh-eating drug hitting the streets in America at present; how long before it reaches our fair isle?! According to CNN, there have been many confirmed cases of krokodil abuse in Russia and Ukraine already.

You can watch a video of it right here.

So in short, "Krokodil causes serious damage to the veins and soft tissue infections, rapidly followed by gangrene and necrosis".

Anyone know more about this new drug on the markets?

    Thanks,
    kerry4sam

Watched a doc on it a while back. Very easy to assemble and cook and produces a heroin like buzz but much shorter. It effectively melts flesh and muscle

This must give the most wonderful high if all these people are taking it knowing it eats your flesh.

I'd want to see evidence from someone else other than the American media, they don't have a good track record with reporting actual drug side effects.

Its a third of the price according to the video. But the cases in America involved heroin addicts who say they thought they bought heroin.

Also says there is close to 1 mil users of it in Russia so it's probably not guaranteed to eat you alive. And junkies are not exactly the best when its comes to decision making anyway I dont think.

I saw a conspiracy there somewhere, maybe in here, that this and the bath salts incident are cover up for zombies.

As far as I know it's been common in Eastern Europe and Siberian Russia for some time because it's cheap and easy to make.

The reason it causes flesh to deteriorate is because of the chemicals used in the process (think Jesse in breaking bad).

It's derived from codeine or other easy to procure opiates, the other ingredients would be easy enough to come by. Especially in that part of the world where red phosphorus is probably manufactured/refined.

As for it coming here, I doubt it. Opiates are controlled here and it'd prove harder to get your hands on chemicals to cook with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,740 ✭✭✭dirtyden

The drug is an Opiate. It does not eat your flesh. The corrosive effect is due to amateur chemists using corrosive reagents to prepare Krokodil form codeine. They have no knowledge of how to effectively clean the opiate from the chemicals used to prepare it and drug users inject what is effectively a mixture of acid and narcotic.

You know it's a ****ed up drug when there are junkies who won't go near it due to it being too dirty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,798 ✭✭✭goose2005

Codeine is more expensive and harder to get in Ireland tho'.

If you use Nurofen Plus rather than that cheap Solpadine crap your legs won't fall off.

Codeine isn't really common over here, you won't find many people sipping out of a white foam cup anyways. Because of the cost of getting codeine in over here, it's handier for dealers to just stick with heroin.

I think paint stripper and petrol are two commonly used ingredients for knocking it together, and it's used by people who have pretty much given up on their life, and just want to get a high no matter what kind of physical harm it does.

Don't go searching up on it, or watching videos of it, unless you want a Goatse-contesting level of revulsion, at seeing live people with flesh literally stripped down to the bone (which, naturally, is pretty shocking).

Petrol and worse is used in the production of cocaine.

It should be legalised so the profits made on selling it are taken out of the hands of the dealers. It might also improve the quality.

sure cook up a batch and report back.

this stuff has been around in russia for years. you need pseudo ephedrine to make it, not sure if you can just buy that here

Is it made from ephedrine (diet pills as they're known here, you can get them on prescription last I heard)? Or is it made from codeine?

I'm sure it's bad, all the alternative drugs are shyte. But it's hard to tell if this is the actual drug or the method in which it's prepared.

We've all heard these scare stories before and the majority turn out to be false.

I'm just not going to trust tabloid TV to tell me one way or the other.

It's desomorphine. Some powerful tack. It can be synthesised "clean" in the lab, but the street recipe involves some nasty stuff. The problem isn't even the addiction to an opiate an order-of-magnitude more powerful than heroin - it's the way the poor divils end up injecting something like 1950's transmission fluid (only worse) into tissue.

I had been saving heroin 'til last... however, a rethink looks in order.

Seen a documentary on it too, horrible looking stuff. Doubt it will come here though, it'd be presumably be a worse alternative to heroin, bit like Crystal Meth never took off here

Yes but, krokodil is knocked together by people at home mostly, who don't get rid of the impurities.

Cocaine is knocked up by a guy with a still in the middle of a forest. They have tried and tested ways of producing the cocaine but it's not made in a lab, it's as low tech as any other drug out there.

the pseudo ephedrine is found in many over the counter cough remedies.the eastern Europeans who arrived during the boom brought the preparation methods with them, and distributed the stuff among they're own community.Irish criminals copped on about 3years ago and its fair to say that in large swathes of west Dublin its spreading amongst our native druggies

Life is pretty grim when people inject krokodil and dream of heroin.
"You can feel how disgusting it is when you're doing it," he recalls. "You're dreaming of heroin, of something that feels clean and not like poison. But you can't afford it, so you keep doing the krokodil. Until you die."

I thought heroin is relatively cheap in ireland and that's one of the problems with it

The one thing that seems strange about these reports is that there's so few of them. If a drug is causing problems you should see thousands of cases not just a handful. A handful of cases points more to contamination or allergic reactions.

It could be just an isolated group of junkies who know how to make it up.

I am not sure which is used now tbh but the flesh-rotting aspects of junkie-made krokodil are well known. Although a properly made batch of desomorphine (?) made by men in white coats in an actual lab using proper ingredients would be much less harmful

I saw a documentary about it last year and I think I recall a junkie saying that they use bleach sometimes when other chemicals are not readily available. He also said they get filthy making it as their is a huge amount of toxic smoke generated from the cooking process.
