I would suggest going for the €5 pendant and spending the balance on magic beans.

As I mentioned, I have to buy one of these. Its not a debate if they work or not...its not my decision.

Without getting into details, I know the person who is looking for this has a family member who is suffering, and anything is worth a try at this stage.

The people who make and sell this crap should be ashamed of themselves. They won't be of course, but hey.

Your unlikely to get any helpful answers because neither will work so there's no difference. They're complete nonsense, so you might as well waste as little money as possible and get the cheapest one.

There were similar "placebo bands" on sale here on boards and they were removed after complaints.

You can read about similar ones here and how they were done for misleading advertising.

    This probably sums it up.

If you have to get one, then the person the OP is getting it for just wants one and in that case any one will be good enough.

P.S - there may be a more appropriate forum for this.

I'd recommend this. There's probably a spirituality forum on here somewhere where you'll get the opinion of people who are into it.

There's probably no need for 8 more posters to stick up a "they don't work" post either.

Quackery has it's place, we're complex creatures and the placebo effect is the most effective treatment available if you can get it. So long as the pendants aren't used instead of actual treatment for the person who is suffering it's no big deal.

Not really. Conventional medicine trials compare against placebo to make sure that they are more effective. Otherwise the treatment or medicine is deemed ineffective.

Well if they come out as being worse than doing nothing that makes sense. When you see how small the gap has to be for it to be pronounced a success it makes you wonder though. Would I be correct in saying the comparison is only made in relation to the number of people per sample group who receive a therapeutic effect rather than how strong the effect is?

This is why I came to the conclusion that a therapeutic affect from essentially doing nothing is a pretty awesome result.

Coventional medical trials have made the shift away from using placebo's in the last few years in human trials as its "immoral" to use a false treatment on a sick person. So now they just use the normally used treatment and compare.
