Has anyone purchased bumper plates or anything else from this guy on donedeal? http://www.donedeal.ie/find/all/for-sale/Ireland/?uid=643274
He seems to have a good bit of stuff and has been advertising on donedeal for a while. Has 150 kg of colored bumpers for €450 which is pretty cheap if they're half decent quality.

    Sorry bud,
Haven't bought any plates since this post, holding out for January sales. I am probably going to buy from Healthandfitnessireland as I am from Galway so should be able to get better value from them. Also, the bumper plates that H&F have are bodymax and as far as I can see the ones on adverts are non-branded so cant review quality from other customers, hence my opriginal question :)

    This seller on adverts.ie
To be fair, he has a good selection of equipment but I dont know of anyone who has bought from him so cant comment on quality of products.

I've bought from him via adverts - a 7FT Barbell and the Strongman log

Very happy with the quality of them both for the price, I will definately be buying from him in the future too.

Note that the log is very light but thats to be expected that cheaply, it does me nicely for what I want it for.

Just looking at the donedeal ad there, I have a set of cheap bumper plates that I got in Strengthshop Uk, they look very similar to the donedeal ones. My 25 kg plates are 98 mm thick as are the ones on donedeal. I have given my plates some dogs abuse and they are fine. Very thick plates.

    https://www.strengthshop.co.uk/weight-plates/coloured-bumper-plates/25kg-bumper-plate-coloured.html
75 UKP plus shipping from the UK for a 25 kg

    http://www.donedeal.ie/gym-for-sale/bumper-plates-150-kgs/5779898
    70 euro for a 25 kg

If these are the same plate then IMO they are very good value. Pity that the other sizes on the donedeal ad are out of stock.

Tbh I have been looking around and I think you are right about the lack of sales for fitness equipment. I got a voucher from the missus for h&f Ireland so I am gonna gather the money together over the next few weeks and then go into the guy and see can I haggle a bargain for myself as the owner of healthandfitnessireland also owns the warehouse gym in Galway and the couple of times I have spoken to him he has seemed quite approachable and willing to knock a few quid off.
If your based elsewhere then you could try
    1. Doing the same with your local supplier
    2. Wait till that seller on adverts/donedeal gets bumper plates back in(he mentions early February as a due date)
    3. Wait for a few weeks until all the good intentions have passed and adverts/donedeal are awash with barely used weight sets.
The main reason I am buying new is because of the voucher I have, the fact that I can collect in Galway after work and the potential to knock a few quid off the asking price.

Yeah waiting for all the new years resolutionists equipment to show up on done deal seems like a plan. Id say theyll be pissed off by march and try and flog the good intentions.

    Sounds like a plan.
On a separate note, can anyone let me know if bumper plates (the cheaper black bodypower ones, not coloured/more expensive ones) are worth the premium they hold over the likes of a regular rubber Olympic set like the one located here http://www.healthandfitnessireland.com/Free-Weights/Olympic-Barbell-Kits/Bodymax-185kg-Olympic-Rubber-7ft-Barbell-Kit
I will mainly be doing the main 4 compound lifts but wouldn't mind messing around with a few Olympic lifts too

Iv had similar olympic sets to that one and you wouldn't drop them from overhead and if you did you soon f them up. They're just rubber encased more for noise etc.

Thanks for that dor, that's what I thought. I'll only get about 140 kg set for the same price as 185 kg ordinary set but I think It's probably worth it in the long run, especially if I can pick up some extra weights around March time for cheap :-)

If you got the bodymax cast iron set and two 20kg proper bumper plates you might be able to get away with some olympic lifting up to 100 kg without any hassle since the bodymax plates are a smaller diameter and wouldn't hit the ground when dropped . Just an idea iv never tried it .

Was thinking that myself but I was thinking I may as well get a proper set first time around, buy cheap buy twice and all that jazz. Thanks for your help

I've been using D8's bumpers for the last year in my gym! They're perfect for the price! I'd say the guys on Donedeal are sourcing similar stuff but Mark in D8 imo is great to deal with & has loads of people that will vouch for him! I always go back to him for my stuff! :)
