A woman went to her priest with a problem. "Father, I have two female parrots, and they only know how to say one thing. All they ever say is, 'Hi, we're prostitutes. Wanna have some fun?' "

"That's terrible!" exclaimed the priest. "But I think I can help. Bring your two female parrots over to my house, and I will put them with my two male parrots whom I taught to pray and read the Bible. My parrots will teach your parrots to stop saying that terrible phrase, and your female parrots will learn to praise and worship."

The next day, the woman brought her female parrots to the priest's house. His two male parrots were holding rosary beads and quietly praying in their cage. The woman put her two female parrots in the cage with the male parrots. The females said, "Hi, we're prostitutes. Wanna have some fun?"

One male parrot looked over at the other male parrot and exclaimed "Put those beads away, our prayers have been answered!"

I wonder what would happen if one of these bigots needed urgent medical attention and the only doctor available was gay/bi/trans?

    ^ This isn't funny.

Edit: ask not what the thread can do for you, ask what you can do for the thread :)

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

    The Hypocratic Oath generally holds.

Irish doctors don't take the hippocratic oath though. Not sure if there's an actual legal obligation on them.

Surely the Hippocratic oath would be moot though, since the question is would a bigot deign to be treated by a homosexual/trans person?

They don't have to but it is understood and if you refuse to give medical assistance for any reason there are ramifications I believe.

There is a more modern version of the oath, though I still believe it's not legally binding, it's really just lip service to whole ideal.

The Irish Medical Council manages all of this kind of stuff, and they maintain a code of conduct and ethics:
    9 Refusal to treat
9.1 In exceptional circumstances you may need to consider refusing
specific treatments to individual patients. This must never be
done on the basis of personal discrimination. You might consider
refusing specific treatments because, for example, you consider
that the treatment would not work or that it might cause more
harm than good. You might also consider refusing treatment
where you believe that your patient is unlikely to co-operate or
make the lifestyle changes required to make the treatment effective.
If you decide to refuse treatment, you must explain your
reasons to the patient and offer them an opportunity to review
the decision and/or seek another opinion.

    10 Conscientious objection
10.1 As a doctor, you must not allow your personal moral standards to
    influence your treatment of patients.

10.2 If you have a conscientious objection to a course of action, you
should explain this to the patient and make the names of other
    doctors available to them.

10.3 Conscientious objection does not absolve you from responsibility
to a patient in emergency circumstances.

    11 Emergencies
11.1 You should provide care in emergencies unless you are satisfied
that alternative arrangements have been made. You should also
consider what assistance you can safely give in the event of a
major incident, a road traffic accident, fire, drowning or other
    similar occurrences.
Failure to adhere to this code will land a doctor in front of the council, who can sanction or strike off the doctor depending on the severity of the breach.

Any criminal process is totally separate, though any doctor convicted of any crime will be reported to the medical council to investigate.
