Hi everyone, looking for some advice please. I sustained a knee injury playing football three weeks ago and knew straight away it was bad. Got my MRI and met Dr James Harty in CUH yesterday who told me ive torn my acl, pcl and my lcl! He wants me to build my knee back up in the gym for a few months and go under the knife in Jan with 9-12 months recovery time. I am looking for a second opinion so am looking for recommendations of knee specialists please. Cheers

Jesus thats a bad dose in one go!!

Ive had 3 acl surgeries on my left knee. First two were done in the Galway clinic within a year of each other and the third 6 years later this year by Niall Hogan in the sports clinic in Santry.

Im 9 months post op now and my knee feels pretty good.

My 2 cents would be, that i did hamstring graphs for the first 2 and a patella tendon for the 3rd one. The patella tendon feels alot stable than hamsting.
Now weather thats down to the surgeons or the graph I dont know but have a read up on the two procedures.

so sorry to read about your injury

I tore my medial meniscus and had a surgery in the Sport Surgery Clinic in Santry. A minor procedure to compared to what you're facing.

My knee only caused me hassle when I ran. So I kept up the cycling up to the day before the surgery. The muscles were quite strong around the knee and that helped in my recovery. I went back in the bike after a week.

It's a good idea to build up the strength. It will help.

My sister did her ACL and had the operation in May of last year. She had hers done in the Bon Secours in Glasnevin.

Best of luck the operation and recovery.
