I'm looking for real Greek yogurt and none of the Greek "style" yogurts. Do any supermarket chains stock it? I don't live in a city so was hoping that it could be found in some chain all around Ireland?

I'm not sure where you can buy the real thing, but you can make it from ordinary yogurt, just strain the yogurt through a cheese cloth over night in the fridge.

Is the real thing high protein, low fat?

It's high protein and relatively low fat.

Fage is the brand you should be looking for.

Where in the country are you based?

Dunnes sell Liberte brand strained yoghurt and Tesco sells Danio. Both v good. I like Danio better. Both have appx 9 percent protein

I didn't realise there was a difference between Greek Style and proper Greek yogurt. Thought I was being great with the Eridanous yogurt from LIDL.

Well I picked up Fage yogurt in Joyce's in Tuam about an hour ago. I'm pleasantly surprised how much thicker it is than the greek style yogurt. I've just put a big dollop of Almond Butter in it and it is infinitely yummier now! :D

I have to find a way of bringing some in to work every day now though. We don't have a fridge. :-/

What's the macro breakdown on the Fage?

AFAIK there's no ASDA's in the republic.

Yeah me too. 4 heaped tablespoons over 250g of berries every day for me. Delish.

Can anyone tell me what's the advantage of the proper stuff over the likes of the Lidl one? Is there a nutritional benefit or is it more of a taste thing? Cheers

Fage 2% is the best tasting yogurt I've had, bear in mind I don't have a sweet tooth, pity it's so expensive

Fromage frais is the same high protein (a bit lower than greek yogurt), low fat, tastes about the same. Add vanilla essence and sweetener and it's great.

Cheaper for Tesco 500g about 1.75, when compared to greek yogurt 3 euro...

JC's in Swords stock all the Fage yoghurts if you're anywhere near NCD, as does Donnybook Fair in Donnybrook (Dublin).

It's readily available here in the UK, it's great :D
