The day of reckoning for Maarek tomorrow but I just know he's going to win. The realist in me is saying he's going to need everything to drop right for him and get a charmed passage through the field but every essence in my body is saying that its going to be his day. The ground is right, he's drawn well in stall 7 and it should be run at a frantic pace that he loves. He's made a seamless transition since joining Barry Lalor and he was a very impressive winner at Newbury last time despite being under pressure from a long way. Declan McDonogh rides again after giving him a peach of a ride at Newbury and I think 7s is a great price.

For those wishing to bet with their heads, he's got an excellent each way chance but I firmly believe he's going to land the Prix De L'Abbaye to gain a richly deserved first Group 1.

Hope Maeerek does it, putting him in a cheeky each way double with Viztoria as well.

I would b delighted for Lordan on Viztoria. He has done brilliantly in the sprints in the Curragh on Suridman and with Lynhams horse in the Curragh and England (placing in 2 against top horses) fine jockey .Hopefully the Irish will get some cheers this year.

Paris holding a Marathon today??To top up the funds for the Arc the first race at Huntington has a very interesting runner here in Uriah Heep.Bred to be a champion on the flat and trained by Ml Stout. He was deemed good enough to run in a Group 3 where he was well beaten behind Astrology at Chester. He won a poor maiden at Goodwood and got to 90 rating.Alan King now trains him to go hurdling and gets 7lbs of the 4/7 shot.I have just invested at 7/1.Looking at the Arc where O Brien withdrew two and supplemented one for 100k an out and out stayer who will no doubt get 2 m.My take on the tactics will be a very slow pace set by Leading Light/Ruler Of The World trying to get the speed horses beaten and then kick with three f to run leaving hard luck stories behind.Orfevre coming very late with Flintshire/Kizuna/Penglai Pavilion looking to close. My bet is 100e win Flintshire,25e/w Penglai Pavilion and 3e allways trio the above four.

Backing Silasol at Longchamp. Was there last year when she won the Boussac and she had the best attitude I saw in a filly for a long time was tough and genuine. Not as good this year but she did win the Alaray, 7/1 is a fair price

The layers are happy to take on Ofevere, he won't be winning.

I'm sticking with Treve, but a smaller bet than I was going to stake due to her draw, with a saver on leading light as he will have a clear path out front and may dictate - if there's no pace, there could be havoc around the home turn.

Hopefully, Barley mow romps home in the Jean-luc Lagardere before then.

Don't know how you can say he wont be winning, he's a worthy favourite with a leading chance given his draw and the fact he's proven on soft. Reason he's being taken on by bookmakers is because they have alternatives to beat him with. In such a highly competitive race he was always going to drift today with punters looking for value.

I'd be hugely disappointed if Leading Light was good enough to win a race as good as today's. Surely one of the market principles will be good enough to pick him off if he tries boss it from the front. Agree on Treve.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,451 ✭✭✭Overthelast

There are specials in the bookmakers offering money back if Ofevere wins, that's a big red flag and I'm with them, think he'll be beaten. 60 yr's since a horse came back to win the arc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,451 ✭✭✭Overthelast

I too would be surprised if LL wins but I think he has a chance if he gets his own way out front, slows the pace down to screw up those behind and kicks early. Longchamp is the home of hard luck stories. AOB was already looking at the arc before the ledger and they forked out 100k this week, he might have a little more up his sleeve. Treve for me if she gets luck in running from that stall.

Backed Reckless Abandon in the Abbaye.

The camera angle is always sqewed in the l'abbey. Marrek will need to be a lot faster out of the blocks today in order to land this.

    Selection for the Arc card:
12.45 Reckless Abandon-Although the injuries this year are a concern i always thought he'd be a sprinter in the making, the L'Abbaye is always a good race for front runners and if they go out in front with him then this speedball could burn them off despite the ground. Maarek will be the danger along with Jwala. The ground has surely gone for Sole Power but can still see him in the top 4 such is his class.

    Reckless Abandon e/w 9/1, Maarek e/w 8/1 + R f/c on them 2.

1.20 Marcel Boussac: Think the French hold the upper hand with Lesstalk In Paris, Veda and Royalmania looking there best hopes. I'll take a punt on Royalmania to take it with Peslier on board and he won the race last year for the same owner as Silasol.

    Royalmania win 4/1

1.55 Jean Luc Lagardere: Karakontie looks the one to be with, won very nicely LTO over course and distance and a tim e that was 2secs quicker than the race Charm Spirit won on the same card. The British and Irish have a bit to find i feel but wouldn't rule out a good showing from Barley Mow giving Be Ready's form a big boost.

    Karakontie win 3/1

A special congratulations to Richie Lawlor as well. It's his uncle that trains the horse now I know Richie and his family are all at Longchamp today no doubt celebrating now.

YAHOO ! what a ride from Jockey , great tipping Rossom , backed it on the Tote site PMU odds , can watch the race as well there , was about 11-1 pmu odds on the off .

Well done rossom! I think the jockey on Catcall went a bit too soon travelled like the best horse in the race.

Brilliant ride from McDonagh, ran like he did last day under pressure a good way out but he was making ground from 2f out and was flying home. From the angle of the live camera i thought he was just too late but won it easily in the end if ever you could by a head! Brilliant once again by Rossom you certainly know how to pick them with Eduacate and your beloved Maarek, well done ;)

    2.30 Prix De L'Opera:
Once again think the French hold the upper hand with Silasol and Tasaday the 2 to focus on. Tasaday didn't seem to get home the last day and the drop back to 10f will suit, Silasol didn't get to her last day so can't see it happening today either even if the trip will suit too. Secret Gesture has been consistent but think she is better over the 12f distance but will be staying on near the end and may run into a place behind the first two.

Tasaday 3/1 win and Straight f/c with Silasol

    3.15 L'Arc:
A cracking race with so many possibilities. Ofevre comes here on top of his game with a brilliant win in the Foy and after an unlucky 2nd last yr after travelling the best could gain compensation but i feel this years field is stronger than the one he should have beat last year. Treve has looked so impressive all year long and despite Criquette Head's dismissal of the draw I think it could well cost Treve the race although the weight allowance may cancel that out! Aidan O'Brien holds a strong hand i feel with Derby winner Ruler of the World and St.Leger winner Leading Light. Leading Light will try and set the fractions i would think and set the race up for Ruler of the World who ran a very satisfactory trial LTO. the horse that beat him that day was Kizuna and another Japanese heavyweight. Of the rest Intello and Flintshire are the best but should come up short against these. Haya landa was 4th in last yrs renewal although was beating far into that spot.

Ruler of the World e/w 9/1, Treve,Kizuna,ROTW Combo t/c. Haya Landa a small e/w bet at 150/1 again first 4 places with pp

Royalmania got a shocker there from Peslier no chance from that far back, of course as a double whammy the one French horse i took out of the equation goes and wins in Indonesienne for the same owner!

He broke my heart in Cork during the summer, granted he was a heavier horse. Glad I took note of your tip. Delighted for McDonogh in light of the crap he might have with owners changing him in the future. A huge mark on his cv

"He's a luvvly big horse" doesn't really cut it as analysis on Arc day.

Two head wreckers on channel 4, how can Mick Fitz explain how to ride a horse in the arc. You'd think for the day that's in it they'd get someone like Mick Kinane

    ORFEVRE DI = 2.20 CD = 0.75

    TREVE DI = 1.40 CD = 0.31

    KIZUNA DI = 1.57 CD = 0.39

RULER OF THE WORLD DI = 1.05 CD = 0.26

    INTELLO DI = 1.26 CD = 0.27

    LEADING LIGHT DI = 0.96 CD = 0.10

    AL KAZEEM DI = 0.87 CD = -0.07

    FLINTSHIRE DI = 0.86 CD = -0.04

    HAYA LANDA DI = 0.71 CD = 0.00

    PIRIKA DI = 0.38 CD = -0.44

    GOING SOMEWHERE DI = 1.18 CD = 0.08

    PENGLAI PAVILION DI = 0.81 CD = 0.00

    OCOVANGO DI = 1.11 CD = 0.18

    SAHAWAR DI = 3.00 CD = 0.88

    VERY NICE NAME DI = 1.18 CD = 0.38

    JOSHUA TREE DI = 0.67 CD = -0.13

    MEANDRE DI = 0.50 CD = -0.50

Seeing as it's going to be test of stamina on that ground today, here are the stoutest bred horses on pedigree in the race.

It worked last year with Solemia..

I'm going to have a bet at French odds on Al Kazeem, he's a big strong horse well suited by the ground and he has excellent form. That mare Pirika looks like she could make the frame at a decent price.

Had a bet on ROTW as well.

Tasaday 5/2 is a little big as I have her about 2L clear of the field 7/4 is my price. So just invested at 5/2.

    Arc

There are a fair few horses that I just can’t fancy in this ground today. The Favorite looks by far the most likely winner, in what looks a sub-standard Arc despite what the general opinion seems to be. The likes of Treve (draw), Intello (trip), Kizuna(quality) all look too short to me. Looking down the list Leading Light is sure to stay, but should really be vulnerable to a fast finisher. Meandre is one I’ve picked for this before and I think the current 50/1 EW with 4 places on Bet365 stands out a mile. One of the big priced horses is sure to get into the placed here and he looks the most likely even though he hasn't been in great form this year. In Addition I like the chances of Very Nice Name of getting placed, he has a good draw and is a consistent animal who may be below top class but might just get involved on a day like today.

    1 Point EW 50/1 Meandre Bet365 4 Places

1 Point Place Very Nice Name 28/1 Bet365

Aidan what is poor about this Arc? Japanese Triple Crown winner, Japanese Derby winner, Epsom Derby winner, French Derby winner, French Oaks winner St Leger winner and multiple gr.1 winners as well. Think this is the best Arc in years

Not sure i only really rate the Fav in it, and he could well be a long way clear of the rest on form.. I could turn out a good race but i don't think its poor just i'm not seeing as much as there can be in it with chances.
