Course they do, otherwise she'd be on the Voice UK or Ireland like a shot.
    Same with that girl Jade.
I begrudgingly watch this show with OH and I have to say the quality this year is absolutely shocking. Their best singer was Paul who got booted for some run of the mill lads. The Overs category has some horrendous pub singers in it.

Then again the best way to watch and enjoy this show is that it's a scripted music show with actors seeing as how, when it starts everyone will be playing a "role", heck some already have started doing so.

I watched bits of it over the weekend with the missues (probably more than I watched in the last few years over this weekend) and the "talent" is either not that talented or more realistically the public have become immune to great singers.
The format of the show has been tweaked, with the main point of that being to attempt to extract the maximum emotions from all the participants.

Even ardent fans I know who would have religiously watched this show are sick of the lack of actual singing and the ramped up emotional interviews with contestants.
The biggest gripe I have, is even if there is an "edgy" or different singer who comes through the auditions, they are slowly turned into a "covers" artist doing "normal pop" having lost whatever vestige of what made them stand out.
It's overly produced at this point as well.
I think this will be the last of it. It's taken over way too many hours over way to many weekends over the past decade.

Anyway, rant over, no spoilers there unless you've never watched the show.

    Ha!

X Factor contestant SeSe Foster from Miss Dynamix has revealed to show bosses she is five months pregnant.
The 22 year-old hopeful told TV bosses that she's expecting, last week - just days before the ITV talent show's live episodes are due to commence, this weekend.

Rumour has it that the BBC has a rule not to accept well known X Factor rejects. Jade did try out for the voice but didn't even make it in front of the judges, she got turned down at the producer auditions.

Wonder whats the story with the other girls £5m 5 year contract last year. Little mention, like it didn't exist
She's like a prettier Beyoncé, confident without all the sob story, as good a voice as the current favourite Tamera.
This single (featuring) seems to have dried up, was it too similar to an identically named chart topper. The machinations behind the industry juggernauts...

    Song choices for tomorrow:

Abi Alton – Livin’ On A Prayer

Sam Bailey – Power of Love

Hannah Barrett – What’s Love Got To Do With It

Sam Callahan – Summer of ‘69

    Tamera Foster – Ain’t Nobody

Luke Friend – Every Breath You Take

Kingsland Road – I’m Your Man

    Nicholas McDonald – True

Lots of rubbish there you mean! The '80's had some great tunes that would compliment these acts. Why does it always have to be 'cheese' when it's the 80's.?!

Abi singing Livin' on a Prayer is just ridiculous.

Same f*cking songs over and over.

    /rant.

    ...

I have no idea why they chose 80s to start of the live shows. I thought this series was supposed to about reviving the show and making it fresh. I guess they want classics so people are more likely to phone in for their favourite oldie.

Looking at the song choices, looks like louis is trying play up to the good looking guy thing. Trying to get the young teen girls vote. I would also think that Nicholas' song choice is poor. He'll probably be put through but just about.

Power of Love for Sam Bailey will probably go down well and might be received well in studio just like This is a Man's world for Mary.

Is that the running order too? Can't imagine Abi would be a good opener. Especially with livin on a prayer... like really? I'm thinking it might be a slowed down cover with her on the piano.

Pretty poor selection to be honest. All safe songs.

Looking at selection, Power of Love is probably going to be the performance of the night.

Depends which Power of Love though...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,021 ✭✭✭bopper

Abi singing Livin' on a Prayer is just ridiculous.

It'll be the same slowed down version that was sung by Sophie in series 8.

Depends which Power of Love though...

Didn't even think about the fact that there's 2 of them. For me, when someone says power of love, this is what comes to mind.

If it's the Jennifer Rush power of love I take back what I said before. Will flop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,456 ✭✭✭✭ibarelycare

I think it'll be Jennifer Rush. Awful.

I love the FGTH song but I don't think anyone this year could match James Arthur's version from last year.

    They're all quite bland aren't they? :(

Oh yeah! That was my favourite performance last year, along with Hometown Glory.

Again, I think it's this whole idea of starting out with an 80s week. Just doesn't seem right. Unless the producers have heard them sing their songs and think they'll be good, looking at them on paper and I'm not really looking forward to any of them.

Perhaps if I was forced to pick one that I'm mildly interested in seeing, it would be Luke Friend and his cover of Every breath you take. All the rest are a bit meh.

Tamera might be one to watch but that's just because of her good voice. Not a great song choice. All just seems dated.

I agree with everything you said, I think Luke's song is a good choice. But I'm really looking forward to seeing Rough Copy too, I think they'll do a great job.

I'm not sure what everyones fascination is with Rough Copy. They do nothing for me.

I've been asking myself whether or not these song choices affect my choice for the voting league we're doing. Still not sure yet.

Haha I said that about them during judges houses, I thought they were very bland. But I think with the third guy back they'll be good, and I think they'll do a great version of the song.

I think Luke won't be great, great song but bland if not sang correctly.
I think Frankie sang it on the live shoes before.

He sort of reminds me of Frankie. His range is quite poor. He's personality is on the other side of the scale though. He seems like a cool guy to hang with whereas the other chap just came across as being a right dickhead.

So who do you think is going to top the vote this week? Will probably be one of the belters from the overs or if Abi plays it slow and on the piano I think it might be her.

    This week's song choices

Abi Alton – Can’t Get You Out Of My Head Slowed down, acoustic, unrecognisable version

Hannah Barrett - Beautiful Presume this is the Christina Aguilera song? I think she'll do a good job.

Kingsland Road – Marry You Fun song for them, I think they'll do it well

Luke Friend – Let Her Go Meh

Miss Dynamix - Dreams Wonder which Dreams this is. Hopefully Gabrielle's...could be good if they can actually sing in harmony this week.

Nicholas McDonald – She’s The One Oh GOD. Absolutely terrible cheesy dull song choice

Rough Copy – I Want It That Way Hopefully they'll do something interesting with this

Sam Bailey – Make You Feel My Love I predict a standing ovation from the judges

Sam Callahan – I Won’t Give Up Hmmm. I really like this song, it was kind of overdone in auditions/bootcamp though, and Sam doesn't live up to most of the people who sang it before him

Shelley Smith – Single Ladies I take it this will be Liza Minelli's version :/

Tamera Foster – Beneath Your Beautiful Good choice, I'd say she'll do well

Mostly predictable choices, but a few interesting ones too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,317 ✭✭✭gavmcg92

Why didnt they start with this as opposed to the pretty poor 80s week?

Really looking forward to luke's performance this week. Im assuming he will have his guitar back. Love that song.

Abi is starting to look like a one trick pony. She needs to do something up tempo soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,317 ✭✭✭gavmcg92

Any sign of the song choices for this week yet? Going to hold out on my prediction until I take a look at that. Mainly because of whether Abi gets a piano song or not.

What's the theme? Am I remembering correctly that it's movie tunes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,456 ✭✭✭✭ibarelycare

Yeah songs from movies, so at least it's quite a broad theme. The songs aren't generally leaked until Friday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,456 ✭✭✭✭ibarelycare

    This week's songs

Abi Alton – Moon River - love this song but can see it being a bit dull. Glad I stuck her in my bottom 2.

Hannah Barrett – Skyfall - If she pulls this off, this will put Hannah as one of the forerunners. Hope she does it well.

Kingsland Road – Oh, Pretty Woman - Cheesefest

Luke Friend – Kiss From A Rose - LOVE this song :D I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with it

Miss Dynamix – Dreams  This is their song choice from last week. Bit of a cop-out, they've basically had 2 weeks to rehearse!

Nicholas McDonald – In The Arms Of An Angel - Ugh this bloody song. He'll sing it well but it's a terrible choice for a 16 year old boy.

Rough Copy – Everything I Do - Boring. Really boring. Was hoping they'd do something different with Backstreet Boys last week, but it was just karaoke. I'd love to think they'd "urbanise" this song, but I really thing it'll just be another Boyz II Men performance.

Sam Bailey – My Heart Will Go On - Could this have been any more predictable? Absolutely dire song choice. Of course she's going to sing it amazingly, but she sounds like Celine anyway, so it's going to be more like Stars in their Eyes.

Sam Callahan – All I Want Is You - Meh. Pretty easy song choice. Hopefully he'll play his guitar.

Tamera Foster – Listen - Another predictable choice. How many times do we have to hear this song on the show? No one who has sung it after Alexandra Burke has ever lived up to it. Not sure Tamera has enough control for it, it could be great but not very exciting.

Bleh. A good few lazy song choices there.

Cannot believe this is songs from the movies week, and they don't have Luke signing this!

    Rubbish. Lazy, unimaginative choices.

Are you surprised? I sure ain't. These shows aren't trend setters, imaginative, risky etc. They have a formula and they stick to it. It all comes down to what brings in votes and the songs that do that are the ones that we all know inside out. They're the songs that we all catch ourselves singing along to.

Funnily enough, a lot of the songs we've seen and we will see soon are the exact arrangement that can be seen on the other xfactor shows (AUS and US). If not, then they're taken from artists on youtube, just like the James Arthur's cover of Sexy and I Know it.

    Magnolia.

I've always been very pro Sharon on this show but I seriously don't think she's suited for the role anymore, considering the dire job she's done so far this series. Whatever imagination and credibility she used to try and inject into her acts in the earlier series of the show has dissappeared. I am starting to wonder if she deliberately wants to crash out early so she doesn't have to do much work, apart from show up on Saturday nights, and still get paid the same massive paycheck.

Easy ... pick a well know disco song, slow it down and put her behind a piano.

    This week's song choices -

Abi Alton – I Will Survive Eeek. I don't think she'll be able for this song. I just hope to god that it's not a slowed down version!

Hannah Barrett – Somebody Else’s Guy Big song!! I think she'll do great with this.

Kingsland Road – Blame It On The Boogie Pure cheese!

Luke Friend – Play That Funky Music Yes!! Really looking forward to this!

Nicholas McDonald – Rock With You I cannot imagine Nicholas singing this at all, should be fun :D

Rough Copy – September Interesting. Good song, lots of very high notes. Will probably be another karaoke performance though.

Sam Bailey – No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) - I was hoping she'd do a Donna Summer song. Still a bit disappointed with the song though, not mad about it. Ruth Lorenzo also sang this during disco week in her year.

Sam Callahan – Relight My Fire Oh dear Louis. Really camping Sam up this week :D

Tamera Foster – Wishing On A Star Great choice. Would have preferred something a bit more upbeat though

I'd imagine Abi's version will just be a carbon copy of the version Leah McFall sang on the voice. Although Abi won't sing it half as well.

As much as I liked Ruth I think Sam's version of that song will blow hers out of the water.

Ugh at Relight my Fire. How many times are they going to recycle that bloody song on The X Factor!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,317 ✭✭✭gavmcg92

I was hoping this would make it easier for me to choose who would be in the bottom but it hasn't really. What I can get from this is Kingsland road will definitely be there, imo.
Think Luke's choice has saved him for another week.
Will be down to Abi and Sam C to fight it out for the second bottom place. Still sticking with Abi. I have a feeling people have grown tired of her slowed down songs. As much as I hate Sharon this year, she's right, I'll be going down to get a cuppa during her performance.

Aside from the fact that they're trying to turn Tamera into a Beyonce knock-off, is Wishing on a Star really a disco song?? Last I heard, it's a soul ballad.

Song choices for Big Band week are out! What does everone think?

    Abi Alton – That's Life

Hannah Barrett – This Is A Man's World

    Luke Friend – Moondance

Nicholas McDonald – Dream A Little Dream

Rough Copy – Hit the road Jack

Sam Bailey – New York New York

Sam Callahan – Ain't That A Kick In The Head

Tamera Foster – Cry Me A River

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,962 ✭✭✭✭dark crystal

This week's Big Band song choices:

    Abi Alton – That's Life

I don't think this song's suited to her at all. She would have been better off doing something whimsical like 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' or 'Smile'.

Hannah Barrett – This Is a Man's World

Worked out well for Mary Byrne, can it save Hannah from the bottom two this week?

    Luke Friend – Moondance

I always love Luke's song choices and this week's no exception. Great song, but is it well known enough to get people voting?

Nicholas McDonald – Dream a Little Dream

Big Band? Hardly. Sweet song, but more suited to Abi's style I would have thought. This week could have seen him really belt one out and cement his place, but it's a fairly strange choice, given the theme.

Rough Copy – Hit the Road Jack

Will be interesting to see how they integrate harmonies into this number. Good song, but not that vocally challenging.

Sam Bailey – New York New York

Aargh, another karaoke classic! Sharon, give this amazing woman something a bit more interesting to sing. She'll hit it out of the ballpark again, but her mentor really needs to start picking songs that show a more versatile side to her voice.

Sam Callahan – Ain't That a Kick In the Head

Westlife lite and it'll still be a challenge for this guy.

Tamera Foster – Cry Me a River

I would have much preferred something a bit punchier for Tamera this week. 'Feeling Good' or 'Get Happy' would have been great. Still, I'm sure she'll sing it well enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,317 ✭✭✭gavmcg92

Still pretty happy with my prediction after song reveals. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want something a little punchier for Luke. While moondance is a good choice, I just sort of feel it's a bit reserved for his style. If there's anybody who should be performing feelin' good it's luke. Get the brass pumping!

Other than Abi and Sam C, I have a feeling Rough Copy could be in trouble this week.

Abi has to go this week...can't see this song suiting her at all.

As for Sam C...I think this song could work if he can pull off the cheeky chappie persona.

Seeing a lot of Hannahs in the the prediction thread... people don't think this will be her week? If I'm honest I think I like her song choice the best. Think she's going to do really well.

I was actually impressed with this choice because unless I'm mistaken it's never been sung on X Factor before. I just presumed she'd be lumped with Feeling Good as that was sung by an "over" during the last three series that had big band weeks.
