1996 Olympic champ vs 2004 Olympic champ . 2nd biggest purse in heavyweight boxing history. Putin is going to be ringside. Povetkin has aked Derek Chisora to be the witness to check klitschkos gloves! Could be epic corrupt decision, that would make C.J Ross blush, if fight goes the distance

I think Povetkin is going to cause problems. I expect Wlad to prevail, but Povetkin has skills that I feel will make it a somewhat competitive fight.

Sorry OP, but I think ring entrances should be around 8.30 and not 10 PM.

Sorry , I was basing the time on the Klitschko count down to fight clock.

Wlad KO 9 IMO. Povetkin is a real tough nut and a stern test but not the right man for the job to beat Wlad. Wlad on the decline IMO but still fancy him tonight. Let's see!

I thought Tsyu was Povetkin's trainer. What's he doing ringside in a suit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭gene_tunney

Wlad stole round in last 10 seconds with jab and left hook.

Povetkin's right hand is looking very dangerous, Wlad needs to be careful, especially after jabbing.

Wlad constantly holds on the ref needs to be strong, happens every single time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,351 ✭✭✭djhaxman

Wow, that shot came out of nowhere!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,449 ✭✭✭megadodge

    Beautiful little hook from Klitchko.

Pov still trying hard and wouldn't rule him out yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭gene_tunney

Wlad's left hand is an amazing piece of heavy artillery. Povetkin looking slightly softened up in round 3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,351 ✭✭✭djhaxman

    Really messy fight

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,758 ✭✭✭Strongbow10

the holding is scandalous seriously, im a Wlad fan but this is cynical stuff the ref needs to issue a warning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,522 ✭✭✭badabing106

Even if Klitschko wins every round ,if it goes to a decision. Its 50/50

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,758 ✭✭✭Strongbow10

Wlad has zero ability to box off the back foot, but unfortunately he doesnt ever need to as ref's allow his holding tactics

First 30 seconds of round 6: jabbing clinic

Refer to first 30 seconds of round 6.

Refer to first 30 seconds of round 6.

he can fight on the outside but not off the backfoot. AT ALL

    I stand by that assessment.

He has never been able to fight off the back foot

Wlad has this referee in his pocket. Elbows and forearms on that KD

    This ref man!

I'm a Wlad fan but i'm half hoping for Povetkin to land a lucky shot.

Fury and Chisora wouldn't stand a chance against Klitschko

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 140 ✭✭MisterCadbury

I used to love boxing. But watching this fight reminds me why I have truely fallen out of love with it. Klitschko holding and leaning so much it is a disgrace the referee has not called him on it. Those elbows, forearms and push downs confirm that Klitschko is not boxing his way to a win, he is cheating his way to it. Joke of an ambassador for the heavy weight division. Has the skills to be a wonderful boxer but prefers to cheat his way to title defenses.

Well he's spent the whole fight tonight jabbing off the back foot and has won every round. But I agree it's not his specialty.

The ref is letting him away with a lot. That's not Wlad's problem. Ali used to get away with stuff that was just as bad

No. Age is the only thing that will beat Wladimir. I'm not a fan by the way, just saying it like I see it.

I think Wlad will have a go for a knock out in this round

Wlad has immense physical gifts thats his specialty. Not being able to land on him has more to do with his sheer reach rather than being elusive.

This fight will disgrace him though unfortunately, its no wonder HBO don't want anything to do with his fights, they are showing it tonight for the first time in a long while :D

Povetkin is an animal to keep going.

Clear cut win. As usual I come away from a Wlad fight let down. All the potential to take opponents out clean and quick but too busy worrying about getting tagged resulting in a lot of spoiling and holding and pushing.

Povetkin doesn't have some of the tools needed to beat Wlad. Great head movement and explosiveness, swift footwork. Not a single straight powershot thrown either, looping hooks are far too telegraphed to be blocked.

He was too plodding, but had heart in abundance in fairness.

Referees allowing the clinching and holding is what ruin's his legacy, they allow him to retreat into his comfort zone.

If hes warned consistently about this then you may see a fighter thats easier on the eye.

On a side note, there was some collection of B level fighters in attendance tonight trying to position themselves to possibly call themselves "World Heavyweight Champ" for the now vacant WBA "regular" heavyweight title.

What other option does Wladamir have when a boxer dives in at his waist hoping for a hayemaker ?

Not sure about that. He has next to know inside game at all. He's damn effective for his size. Beautiful and powerful jab. I feel he's holding back something all the time.

Wlad doesn't take chances anymore. He understands that boxing is a chess game , rather than a slug it out fight like by gone eras. He learnt this lesson the hard way . He has refined his skills and endurance and technique considerably. It is all about the win . Losing is not an option. Wlad is a machine in the sense that he does not deviate from this mindset

...and Tyson had no outside game. The name of the game is hit and don't get hit.

He's playing to his strengths. He has no inside game therefore he doesn't fight inside. If somebody was able to get inside his jab it would be problematic, but since they don't it's effective. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Wlad fighting inside is analagous to a prime Tyson fighting outside: dangerous, foolish and not using your strengths.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,230 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Tyson had a very good all around game, and a terrific mid range game. Anyway, I agree, Wlad uses his advantages. I am a fan of his. I just wish he'd step it up a little and get of rid of these lads. They are their for "his" taking. It's like he doesn't have the confidence in his own power and ability. Plays it a bit too cautious. Not saying he should be reckless, just more vicious and spiteful.

Tyson would maul him, shame he's not in his prime the heavy weight division aint even worth watching with these klitchko rapings no competition what so ever.

Nothing more depressing then watching a Clinchko fight these days and this is coming from a guy who has travelled to Germany to see both in the past. Wlad knows his chin is fragile and will do everything he can to avoid getting hit. It says it all that HBO jumped back on the Clinchko bandwagon and aired this fight but its safe to say they won't be showing him again in the near future.

It looks like it will be Pulev for Wlad next who probably won't offer a great deal but as crazy as this sounds I would like to see Chisora in with Wlad. You'd be guaranteed a good build up with the animosity between the two. Del Boy is a decent inside fighter and wouldn't be afraid to rough it up with Wlad in close when he tries his clinching and leaning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭gene_tunney

I think Chisora would give Wlad a better fight than Pulev too. I think Pulev beats Del Boy but doesn't have the aggression needed to beat Wlad.

Neither would beat him though. Wilder is unpolished but I think he has the best style of any of the up and comers to beat Wlad.

Also Wlad doesn't really have a suspect chin, contrary to popular opinion. Haye caught him flush in the 12th in their fight and he didn't blink, and Haye is one of the biggest punchers in boxing apart from Wlad. He has been down many times but I feel it was more of a panic response. Sanders destroyed him but Wlad never came close to losing consciousness he just kept falling. But it probably amounts to the same thing in so far as he is vulnerable, just not prone to a flash KO IMO. Contrast him with Lennox Lewis who was knocked out stone cold twice. Just interesting points

Overstating it there a bit, Lewis was on his feet when stopped by McCall and rose from the knockdown v Rahman at 10 1/2.

Watched them again there. He got up against McCall but was done, legs were gone. Against Rahman he was absolutely finished and out of it for a minute or so after.

I would argue that the Lewis shots were both single hit monster shots. I don't think Wlad would come close to rising had he got caught with them type of shots.

"knocked out stone cold" is what you said.

    He wasn't.

    In either case.

The Rahman shot was definitely a monster shot. Just illustrating it can happen to anyone in the HW division. Lewis had a great chin.
