Disney Princess Ultimate Dream Castle

Was looking for one of these for my daughter at Christmas, but found Argos & Smyths price of €249 very expensive. If you follow the link below, you can have it delivered to your door for $120(€100) including ups 4 day express delivery.

Hopefully it will help ease the cost of santa for someone else and make a young girl very happy Christmas morning.

Nice find, thanks for sharing. I reckon you might get hit with a hefty customs tax on this big package coming through from the US, although I've never ordered something of this size from there.

Don't forget to add customs charges to your final figure

Probably still save in the region of €100 or more

Did you get 4 of them?

The one you have in the link above is the original one. DD1 got it, maybe 3 years ago, whenever it came out first. There are some awful reviews, but I can tell you honestly that it is played with every day here and it is still in 100% perfect condition. Now, she is the sort of child to mind stuff but her little brother has Spiderman launching regular attacks and its still fine.

The one thats selling for €249 has a few different features, IMO the one "we" have is nicer. Every Cinderella needs a staircase!

If anyone wants to know anything about it, feel free to ask - I don't meant to hijack daz76!

Have emailed this to my sister as her daughter was looking for a dolls house for Christmas and as the OP pointed out, they are very expensive. Would a regular barbie fit in the house?

If you were to get hit with customs charges, how do they work them out, is it a percentage of the purchase price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,111 ✭✭✭✭ted1

Thanks OP just ordered one, went for the slower delivery so it only cost 100 dollars/74 euro.

I'm sure the wife will beat me for spending my money on princess things for my little princesses

It looks fab thanks for sharing. I am very tempted to go for it as my little girl has requested a barbie house from Santa and the prices in Smyths etc for the Barbie dreamhouse are ridiculous.

I just hope Mayogirl is right and it can withstand plenty of abuse from my lot !!!!

i bit the bullet and got one.

between the half price Heatons toys the 2 for €20 in Argos and now this there will be some very happy little ladies in our house this christmas

    BTW, thanks OP great find.

I seem to remember getting a charge of 30/35% on an american eagle order before. Still makes it a good deal and the likelihood of getting through is quite high. might be the pre-xmas lull in customs?

You will definitely get hit if it's delivered by a courier which an item this size is likely to be. Anything that's ever been delivered to me from the states via DHL etc got hit by customs. We bought the older version of this castle two years ago for our daughter. She has gotten great value out of it. Think it was 169 at time but argos were doing a 20 percent off toys day so we ended up getting it for around 125

Keep an eye out as well in the Disney Store here and the .co.uk as they have really lovely dolls to go into it and often do special offers - although you can't beat the 2 for $20 in the US. The Disney store Prince and Princesses are way nicer than the ones sold in regular toy stores. Also, I can't recall DH doing TOO much giving out when assembling, but I'll check with him tonight and see if he can recall how long it took. HTH.

It's surprising that you didn't get hit with customs duty when it was sent via UPS, unless maybe the customs charge was included in the shipping cost like some companies do now, are you sure it was sent via UPS and not USPS?

Its possible the bill will arrive in the post later. (or at least it used to be possible)

That only ever happened to me with Fedex.

tbh I wouldn't trust them seem to be a lot of complaints about people getting their stuff late, damaged or a few not at all. happened to a couple of people I know, one didn't get their items at all and the company are still promising a refund by next week which never seems to come. not worth the risk to be out of pocket and have disappointed kids on christmas.

tried this code earlier and it wouldn't work!:(

i just did a test purchase and the 20% was taken off one of the items in my basket and not the total so it will work great for one expensive item rather than a basket full of small items.

Thanks OP, ordered this... sure she will love it! :) $97.95 in total.

When people start receiving them could they please post whether that had to pay customs or not and if so how much.
    Cheers

Mine arrived this morning with the postman

Barnes and Noble had a value of $169 on the package so i was charged customs for a value of €127.28 when i only spent €72

not customs fault so my total customs charge was €29.27 plus €6 AnPost charge = €35.27 which the postman was looking for this morning at the door.

so in total i paid €73.33 for the item and €35.27 for customs and AnPost

    = €108.60

still a bargain but if Barnes and Noble were honest it would have been 10 or 12 euro less and under the €100

    BTW

the box is big, very big and it is not covered so if there are smallies around when the postman calls you will be rumbled. might be worth having a quiet word with the postman before it arrives.

i havent opened it as its too big so i'll be praying that its all there on christmas eve :) its in the shed for now

Still over €100 cheaper than uk, reading the reviews I'd definitely get some loctite all plastics superglue and learn to use it, its saved many a christmas in our house.

about €22, i worked it out when i sent it to customs

i ordered this a week or so ago and paid $97.95 which came through on my credit card as €73.33

When it arrived today i was charged €35.27 in VAT and customs charges because the sender put a value of $169.95 which you worked out to be €127.28.

i realise that you are only going on what the sender declared the value to be but in reality i did only pay €73.33 so my charges should only be €16.87 + €6 = €22.87 which would save me €12.40

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,111 ✭✭✭✭ted1

Arrived Via An Post this morning.

    Postie was lookign for €35.27

I sent it back becuase the Tax was to high. I've sent a email to custoemr service, telling them to readjust the VAT and bring it back to me

    I paid about €75 which =€17.25 VAT
    there customs charge is €6
    https://www.anpost.ie/NR/rdonlyres/1B05DE72-4B6E-461C-98F4-36E0B990EF39/0/2April2013AnPostScheduleofCharges.pdf <--page 12

and AS its less than €150 there is no duty
    http://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CDIQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.revenue.ie%2Fen%2Fcustoms%2Fleaflets%2Fpostal-guide.pdf&ei=gHxdUo7fOemU7QaiiIDgBA&usg=AFQjCNFPLlk-aIuAU5MGsG96p5v-PC7iGQ&sig2=iuUCN8ZXrSlWn4XuCiSBYw&bvm=bv.53899372,d.ZGU

    <--paragraph 11

so the total should have been €23.25

response from barnes and noble

Thank you for contacting Barnes and Noble regarding your order
    #66786xxxxx.

The declared value is based on the retail value of the item that is
ordered. In your case, the item was valued at $169.95 which is the
retail price even though you only paid $84.97 for the item. Barnes and
Noble is mandated to list the retail price of the items.

I do apologize for any confusion.
