Just saw an ad for Hector Breaks for the Border. this has the potential to be horrendous. it already loses points for having Stephen Nolan in it

So, this is not a thread about a Crash Test Dummies doc then?

    Misleading title dude.

This thread can be whatever you want it to be, baby. so long as what you want it to be is about Hector Breaks for the Border. sorry about the title, dunno how to change it

What makes me sick is the way RTE say " let's see how they get on in each other's countries" last time I checked ulster is apart of Ireland. We are all one country. Shame on RTE , typical west Brit comment

Actually, last *I* checked NI is still part of the UK so they're actually right in that it IS a separate country.

Nothing to do with being "West Brits" - geographical and political fact :)

Geography is obviously not your strong point. The north of Ireland is on our island Ireland, while 6 of our counties are still under British occupation , yes it is apart of the United Kingdom politically, but it's not a country. Are you saying that our last president was British ???

    Occupation....

    ...Dear god..... Let it go!

Or better.... Run up there and conquer it yourself for all the true sons of Erin.

    ..... So anyway.

Ok, lets not make this the usual constitutional row. we all have different stronly held opinions on this. i gotta admit that whole "each others country" sh1t p1ssed me off too, but not nearly as much as the sight of stephen nolan. i can just tell how RTE is gonna portray the north in this. as soon as they cross the border it will be all marchin bands and people goin durdle durdle dur sitchy-ayshun. i'll reserve judgement until i see it but i imagine after it i'll have to begin drawing up a list of RTE bigwigs to punch in the face

Ah, I was thinking it's not bad, mainly because of the lack of Hector. This is actually The Story of Ireland isn't it, a good series.

Its possible. but hector would burst out of his chest alien style. Not that it would be easy, nolan has fairly taken hectors advice to heart and LET HIMSELF GOOOOOOOOOOOO

Switched on to watch this. Anyone know what happened?

Technical difficulties in this day and age is very suspect, it is not as if there is only one copy of a film to be put on a projector. Did somebody sue?

was looking foward to hearing Hector getting stuck into fat boy

I agree with you, utter tosh. Something else behind that.

Not a fan of Nolan or Hector. Was interested to see who would annoy me more. Let yourself gooo Hector, to Northern Ireland. Another country off the list, at the expensive of the tax payer.

    Did somebody sue?

A concerned licence payer trying to get to the bottom of how yet another vehicle for Hector got commissioned?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76 ✭✭nedsgarden

    Hector breaks the programme order.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 219 ✭✭BuzzG

Yes someone must have threatened to sue ... maybe RTÉ or someone had concerns it could cause tensions with our neighbours in NI. Very strange indeed anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

Martin McGuinness tweeting about the return of the broadcasting ban.

I was watching it specifically to see the content. Lines must have been crossed that might upset some of the more tender folk in the two countries. I suspect that it the real reason it was pulled.

    They will show it eventually.

Nah, Nolan saying it has been pulled on twitter. Don't want to post his twitter comments but it looks like it is political.

I think I'd prefer Hector to Fergal "I Love My Own Voice' Keane, heck give me Nolan even.

Stephen Nolan tweeted when the programme was supposed to be on, asking people what they thought of it. Must have been pulled at the last minute.

Are people saying this programme got pulled off the tv schedule? We are not on twitter so don't know what is being tweeted - but we deliberately did not tune in to this programme because of the title and the participants - Stephen Nolan is someone who promotes his radio programme as talking for his "wee country" a phrase which speaks for protestants/unionists/loyalists only and promotes their propaganda that the north of Ireland is a country in its own right and for which lie RTE have supported with this programme - alienating the catholics and Irish nationalists. He, Stephen Nolan, does not speak for everyone when he broadcasts but his own unionist side only - in case everyone else in the island isn't aware that it isn't just protestants who live in the six counties, you know! Very annoyed that RTE commissioned such a partition-supporting programme in the first place. A sad day for national broadcasting.

I thought Hector might have died and they pulled the show as a mark of respect

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,780 ✭✭✭Frank Lee Midere

It sounds political for sure, but would have been very very last minute. I mean hollywood stuff. The announcer was sure it was going out until it didn't play. Did someone just run in in the nick of time with an injunction, and if so who? Nolan seems to have thought it was on, Hector was plugging it, Sinn Fein are annoyed. Who could have injuncted? And for why?

Maybe it was a technical problem, as odd as that is in 2013.

I know someone who works in RTE. Odd as it seems, it was a technical issue.
As you said, even the announcer thought it was going out.

'Technical problem' - why is it they only happen on RTE ? I was looking forward to Nolan giving Hector a few home truths about the Darby O' Gill fantasy world he occupies. No - I'm not Unionist ( or Nationalist ) - just fed up with this dysfunctional island we live on.

Maybe it was a technical problem, as odd as that is in 2013.

Anyone who's ever used a computer will know that technical problems can happen in 2013 too!

To be fair, the last minute nature of the swap would kinda make you believe the technical problem thing.....

Although I didn't see it happen. Did they have the Fergal Keane show pretty much ready to go or was there a few minutes of the RTE logo and silly music while they scrambled to fill the gap?
