But it's not. I mean what on earth is he thinking???? Even if a garda was blind enough to miss the tax, the insurance is out over 2 years. Twice in the past 3 days i've seen this chancer driving about.

I used to use a piece of cardboard with a picture and a name on it as my fake ID when I was under 18. It gave the bouncers such a laugh i always got in. I imagine it has the same affect.

More to the point, why didn't you report it rather than take a photo of it?

    It'd be impounded instantly

I think the point of the op was the pathetic attempt, more so than the down right heinous crime being committed tbh

A child has to have made it. Surely an adult can cut out a piece of circular paper better than that!

There obviously making a point to the government/guards that motor tax is just a joke. Either that or there for the funny farm...

I took a ferry to Clare Island in the summer. I didnt find a single car or van with a disk of any description in date, they were all two or three years out

I'd imagine the OP has better things to do with their time than act vigilante and "report" people causing them no harm.

It's your business if you have car/van/bike insurance. You're paying for that persons insurance as well as your own.

Causing no harm ? If that car ran you down or crashed in to you, no insurance how would you feel then

Sore, stiff and annoyed. Then I'd call the Gardai and eventually submit a claim against the MIBI for my losses.

So no one should bother with insurance, just sue the uninsured drivers fund , where does this fund come from ?

You appear to think I am condoning an allegedly uninsured driver. I am not.

With respects, the disc means nothing. Just because I have a valid disc doesn't mean that I am indeed insured.

I was merely stating that most people have lives and get on with their business. Do you monitor the Tax and Insurance status of all vehicles that you pass on the street and report the offending ones to your local Garda Station?

The ferryman usually gives the locals a heads up when the Gardai are on route,

Probably working on the NCT disc.

That was a rhetorical question, I certainly dont condone driving while uninsured, I thought you were the one who saw no problem with it ,

Perhaps if members of the public were allowed to keep a "finders fee" of 10% of the penalty, I'd say motor tax compliance would be near 100% within months :)

I pay enough tax to expect the state to monitor compliance with their affairs without the assistance of the public.

It's an avenue that I'd fear would escalate into a vigilante type country.

I have no problem with someone not paying tax on their car. Why should we have to pay car tax when we pay enough money on petrol. Its the Insurance and NCT that really irratates me and should be reported.

Luckily you don't drive, as otherwise your premium would be funding the chancer, and also you'd know that if he hits someone, that person is quite frankly f**ked...

if there was a smartphone app to snap and report out of date discs/illegally parked cars/ general law breaking related to motoring - would folks around here use it? I have often thought of developing something like it - along the lines of the "See it, Say it" app for reporting illegal dumping to the Dept of the envoirnment

Only for Insurance and NCT. I couldn't care less about someone not paying tax on their car. Fair play to em I say. Getting taxed to the bollox as it is. P.S I pay my tax as I don't want my car taking off me.
