Gun control in the 26 counties is totally over the top; meanwhile gun crime from criminals is on the rise- surely now is the time for ordinary citizens to start standing up against this tyranny?

I'm not even joking, if I had access to a gun I would murderise a significant number of people. You can't grant weapon access to idiots like me.

Yes- there are guns in the hands of a government under the control of an elite which has shown its inability to protect many of its citizens and has acted treasonably as far Im concerned (I thinking here of the Lisbon treaty among other things). There are guns in the hands of criminal gangs- arming the citizenry would balance up score and have them less at the mercy of those two groups.

The only 'gun laws' I want enforced are guns used on my in-laws.

Its illegal for any normal Irish citizen to buy a serious automatic or semi-automatic weapon.

I refuse to recognise the legitimacy of that video in the 26 counties due to the use of imperial units of measurement. But if you're OK with such hegemony and with normalising that kind of behaviour...

Can we come up with a new Godwin's law, but instead of the Nazis/Hitler, it's how many posts it gets until the Government gets blamed for something/everything?

    More guns for some

    Miniature Irish flags for others

    Gun control in the 26 counties is totally over the top;

How the hell is it over the top exactly?

I legally held a rifle and shotgun in my early 20's after going through the proper processes.

It is not illegal for them to buy these weapons in certain jurisdictions....but in the republic of ireland it is.

But a semi automatic would make those badger culls easier?

    Hardly serious fire power.

Especially if you belong to the urban working class. The private ownership of handguns is seriously curtailed.

We have some of the most oppressive laws in this matter in Europe.

    semi-automatic weapon.

There are lots of legally held semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns in this country.

I own a rifle and while I think there are many serious issues with our licensing system allowing people to get firearms for self-defence will not solve anything.

Im not interested in getting rid of gun control for reasons of sport or pest control but it curtailing tyranny and giving people a fighting chance to protect their property.

Can you imagine the grand opening of the Ballyfermot Guns'r'us with a few thousand of them waiting outside for their whopper AR-15 rifles.

I'd rather avoid a day like that tbh.

Generally, the criminal gangs seem to mostly shoot each other, so I'm pretty happy about myself and my neighbours not owning guns.

Is it not obvious??? In countries like the US where there is looser gun control, violent crime is at a much lower level and people feel more secure in their own homes due to the fact they can own a nice semi-automatic gun. Think of all those people here in Ireland who are living in fear on a daily basis.

With people owning guns, crime will whither away as everybody fears a gun pointed at them.

    AR-15 rifles.

In fairness, there are already some AR-15 and similar rifles licensed in Ireland. Not a lot, but some.

You have to come up with all manner of justification in order to get near a chance of getting one unless you are in the "know"- the fact is that the Free State's gun control laws are even worse the UK's (if that were possible) and effectively disarm the majority of the civilian population.

This is a class issue and its disgusting that the ULA, Sinn Fein and the Labour Party who are supposed to represent the masses are silent on it.

Absolute nonsense. You have to come up with reasonable justification (why do you want a semi-auto pistol? because I compete in shooting competitions where they're used. etc.) and there are people from all economic backgrounds with legally held semi-auto firearms.

AK-47 full auto? Not legal here.
AK-47 clone, semi-auto? Totally legal (but pointless) here.

No, no, I have to disagree with you OP. Having licenced guns for hunting purposes, or culling badgers, is fine but I don't agree with arming the proles.

A man wouldn't feel safe anywhere if every Joe Soap was armed to the teeth with handguns and semi automatic assauly rifles.

Terrible idea and one, I hope, never sees the light of day.

Do you think the authorities would accept defending my civil and religious liberty as a reasonable explanation?

Yeah, and if the guards see you firing your weapon, just duck down an alleyway. They usually forget about gun deaths after 45 seconds or so.

No, it's not a legitimate reason, either in law or in the mind of any non-crackpot.

How are you going to defend your religious liberty with a gun?

So you're against democracy? Probably best you don't have a gun, then. We don't need a militia of Freemen. *shudder*

What do you consider it then ? and why is it a "puppet regime"

made you sounds like you want to retreat to the hills and broadcast conspiracy theory's on a short wave radio surronded by fully auto wapons incase the puppet regiem stages a waco on you tbh

There is already a massive gun crime problem in Dublin as there is in parts of the UK- the problem is that criminals have all the guns not the ordinary working person. The states with the strictest gun control laws also have the highest gun crime rates-funny that.

Gun control is forbidden by the Bible as the mod of the Christianity you might like to recall that fact.

I think it's the reverse tbh. Violent crime less in the US? Every single shooting in Ireland (which is mostly gangland related, so generally doesn't effect the "normal" population) is generally mentioned in the news. It only seems to be the mass shootings that are reported over there as shootings are so common. When was there ever a mass shooting ala Columbine, Sandy Hook, Aurora etc. in Ireland?
I know someone who was over in Las Vegas on holidays and witnessed a rapper being killed in a drive by shooting (yes right outside a hotel!!). What was worse was in the commotion another tourist was also killed when the taxi they were in crashed in the panic. They are not in a rush back to America as you could imagine..
Guns should be restricted to those that need them, and our gun laws are fine as it is...

    Nick
