    Hi

A number of my freesat channels over the past few days have suddenly become scrambled or stating no Signal. The ones that I have spotted (and I have not gone through them all) are Vintage TV and Challenge. Is anyone else experiencing this. Not really sure what to do, maybe do a new satellite search which I would prefer not to as it just duplicates all the other channels. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The box (which I have two of) is the Ferguson Ariva 250.

The channels have probably changed frequency. Have a look at the frequency list in the link above to find the channels new location.

I don't own the Ariva receiver but I'm sure you can do a search by individual transponder to find and store the channels, the manual should describe how to do it

The Cush - Thanks for your reply, I will have a look at that list and also try to find the manual that I got with the receiver, have two so one be around somewhere. Never even crossed my mind that they could switch, I am not really tecky on this sort of stuff.

It's going to be a rough period for generic FTA boxes as there will be a lot of channels moving around between 30th September & 4th October due to the ongoing dispute between Eutelsat and SES (Astra).
Satellite channels reshuffle as SES Astra takes over frequencies

Numerous satellite TV and radio stations serving viewers in the UK and Republic of Ireland are being shuffled around on new frequencies as a result of an ongoing legal battle between the two operators responsible for the satellites serving the British Isles.

Satellite TV operators are working hard to ensure services remain available on Sky and Freesat through the transitional period.

The changes affect services that have previously broadcast via the Eutelsat 28A satellite using a frequency band that rival SES (Astra) now claims as its own to use from the 4th October 2013. The matter continues to be fought in the courts, but a recent ruling in Germany resulted in Eutelsat being told to stop broadcasting services in the contested frequency band by 4th October. Consequently, services are now being transferred from Eutelsat to SES Astra's fleet of satellites.

Satellite uplink providers and platform operators have enacted plans to ensure viewers do not lose services during the transition, which mean that some frequency and parameter changes are taking place. Challenge has already changed frequencies in advance of the 4th October deadline, but next week will see a mass of migrations and temporary frequency allocations.

Channels including RT (standard definition version) are moving from Monday 30th September to temporary frequencies outside of the contested range. Then, from the 4th October, when SES (Astra) takes over the former Eutelsat frequencies, services will be simulcast via a new, final frequency as well as the temporary frequencies. After the 10th October, all affected services should continue on the new, final frequencies only.

The changes will mean that viewers with generic free-to-air satellite receivers will need to retune twice in the coming fortnight to continue receiving all available services, and to regain access to any missing channels, but viewers with Sky and Freesat should see little disruption to their service, with both satellite TV operators working hard to ensure that their Electronic Programme Guides automatically redirect receivers to whichever frequencies are currently in use.

He may not realise that the new channel will be at the bottom of the Astra 2 list (unless he does a sort). It is likely that the old channel in the channel list is still being accessed by him. Delete the old one = no confusion.

These are, for the most part, temporary moves.

The new tps there from the 4th is the final home for the channels. Anything moved earlier than that will close in a few days.

If your box hasn't got the necessary details, it can't scan.

The channels quoted are on brand new transponders, you may need to manually input the transponder details.

It takes a couple of seconds for the box to get a picture on the Movies4Men/More>Movies channels and then a moment for the soundtrack to appear. Its like they are a "hares breath" from not being there.

12304 is the correct transponder. Make sure you have it set to Horizontal (FEC settings usually don't matter but set to 2/3 or Auto) and make sure you have DVB-S selected (as opposed to DVB-S2).

can some one please explain how i check what the FEC is? im sure its fine as I can tune other stations, for some reason 12304/27500/H just wont pick up any signal (well 30-40% signal) i searched for other stations today on other frequencies and they came up no problem, with 90% signal strenght. again, any help. thanks alot.

As explained already, on a DVB-S transponder it really doesn't matter what FEC you input it'll find the channels - but you should find it in your settings menu.

What satellite receiver are you using? Do you have the manual?

FEC (forward error correction) should be on the same settings page as the frequency, polarisation etc.

Some receivers have this preset to auto so that no selection is required, others give you the option to select "auto FEC" or the correct figure.
The only other thing I can suggest within the settings, as suggested above, is that the receiver is set to DVB-S with QPSK modulation if these options are available.

One other thing, is there any home cordless phones about? I don't think they affect that particular frequency but no harm checking.

I noticed these channels were disappearing from my freesat box. So I just entered a London postcode (was using a belfast one previously) did a re-scan and they all came back again.

But whats the crack with the mention of Comedy Central, etc. Are they free to air now or something?

can some one please explain how i check what the FEC is? im sure its fine as I can tune other stations, for some reason 12304/27500/H just wont pick up any signal (well 30-40% signal) i searched for other stations today on other frequencies and they came up no problem, with 90% signal strenght. again, any help. thanks alot.

I seem to have the exact same problem. I was able to tune in all the other channels that had moved except for Challenge.

Signal quality 10%, signal intensity 45%. I am using an Ariva 150. On my freesat box Challange is there.

I'm looking to order the Ariva 250 but see it is listed as 'currently out of stock'. Wondering if this has anything to do with the issues listed above and if I should park the idea.

I like the idea of the combi box as the wife watches the Irish channels - We have Sky + in the sitting room and bedroom - The plan was to get a combi box in the conservatory.

Just a coincidence, I'm sure you can find a dealer who has one :)
