May as well have a thread for this. Put in your arguments for or against or just +1 if you want one.

This will probably get us nowhere but we can at least try again :)

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I enquired years ago. Word from the office was a no, they didn't want them to be an identifier if the driver did something bold

A reg plate does that job already.

I'd actually have to look harder for a boards sticker than a reg to find someone.

Sure when I saw Max power in the m50 the other day it was cos his German plates stuck out

They don't want their brand on cars that could be acting the maggot is what I mean.

That argument went down the drain when they did the t-shirt imo

+1 from me (personally I'd like a vinyl window sticker of just the boards logo)

Considering what some people are let post I reckon the not having the brand attached with acting the maggot ship has sailed :)

    Id be a +1

+3 actually cos id want a few.

Or cyclists in Lycra that brake red lights as pedestrians cross.

    I'm definitely interested.

What happens if a user gets banned?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,330 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

Isn't there boards.ie cycling jerseys? If they have that, there's no reason to not have a car sticker. As for being associated with acting the maggot, sure car garages and radio stations have been giving out car stickers since year dot. You're not going to associate bad driving with 98FM listeners.

Didn't someone design a Forum 47 sticker last time we did this?
Nice and subtle but we'd know what it meant.

Various merchandise comes up every few years.

I'd be for it. Something small and unobtrusive. Maybe the size of a tax disc.
Cycling peeps have jerseys, we should be able to have a sticker.

Mods will start an egg on spoon race to the posters house and the first one there gets to rip the sticker off the car

Exactly what I was thinking. A sticker that only fellow boards motors forum regulars would recognise.

And it should only be made available to members who've been on a while, with many posts in that forum. Not someone who has posted in here once or twice and thought ooh I want a sticker for my car too!

+1 I think its a good idea. It wouldn't have to have boards in big writing could be subtle so just members would know what they are.

If it's subtle and doesn't have boards in big writing etc. Then I don't see why not.

I think forum 47 does the job.
It's a sticker that motor forum members will recognise but no one else will.

Personally I don't know if I want every person on the road saying ooh a boards member, but I do enjoy recognising other boards cars.

You can't really exclude new forum joiners as it would make them feel very unwelcome TBH. Maybe they should only be available at meets?

Oh god no. Just that they'd need to have a certain number of posts and be on here a while. (Maybe 30 posts in the forum and be on here a month)
If they have only 2 or 3 posts, and are only registered a week, they're hardly going to go to meets anyway.

Ah fair enough. I thought it was going to be some huge number of posts but that's grand. I hope that this gets approved now (even though it probably won't) Toyotafanboi could even make them for us! support local business etc :)

A significant number as in we know the poster kind of thing, not just some randomer who posts on after hours and here.
That's who I was thinking as well.

I'm on about how the sticker should just be for motor forum regulars, stops it getting out amongst the masses etc. where it has a higher chance of getting onto the car of a gob****e giving boards a bad name.
At least if you can see one acting the maggot, you know its a regular on here and the grief he'd get from being shamed.

I know, I was just having a moment.

It's my old age you see :) Easy to offend :)

I would never have a boards sticker, as when I'm driving at 160km on the M8 I don't want to be worrying about being shamed :D
