Device for making the best of our tap water?

After the other thread on Irish Tap water spiralled into a back and forth debate on fluoride, I thought I'd start a thread specifically for info on what would be the best device out there to clean the tap water.

Personally I'd like pure water over water with additives the same way I'd choose an organic apple over one that has been sprayed with pesticides even if it's a little more expensive... just incase. So in the same vein, without getting into any discussions on proof of harm to us, I'd like to get some recommendations on the best method and type of device to use for cleaning tap water.

I drink a lot of tap water as it is, it's convenient and there when I need it. If I can pay a bit extra to still have that convenience but know that the water is cleaner, that to me is worth something.

Any suggestions, links to products and comparisons would be very welcome. Between reverse osmosis and all the rest, there's a lot of different methods out there. I've seen all sorts of products from copper spirals you put around the pipes that are meant to "energise" the water, to €1,500 machines that make the water alkaline (but still don't remove fluoride and the likes), half of which I'm pretty sceptical about.

So for the best water, what would be the best product? :)
