Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Benildus 6.5-1.5 Bray/Greystones

Bray were missing a few players, I think.

    Elm Mount 5.5 Kilkenny 2.5
Alexander Baburin played on board 2 for Kilkenny.
Lots of teams including Dublin University have had points deducted for unregistered players ... same in the other divisions.

Really annoying that clubs weren't informed of the points deduction in advance.

I know it happens every year, and I agree with the rule, but it just seems polite to give clubs a week's notice or something. As it is, it's kind of sneakily hidden away on the league pages; there's not even a note on the front page of the site to say it's happened. And some league tables have been updated incorrectly as division controllers have been bypassed on recent results.

Who was board 1 for Kilkenny? Mark Quinn?

Mark Quinn was board 1. He drew with David Fitzsimons and Baburin won an extremely complicated game against Adam Spirek.

The points deduction needs to be formalised in the rules. We have now moved from last place to eight and are out of the relegation zone. Naturally enough, we would be happy if this was enforced this year but what is the point in changing the tables if all is forgiven when players register. Surely, the league rules should include all players must be registered by 31 December or for inclusion in the January rating list unless a new player starts in January - give them 7 days to register.

I note we have four teams in the leagues (requiring 24 players) and have all of our players registered (26 players).

The aim of the game is to get the fees paid. If the points were permanently docked, why would you pay the fees?

No doubt the ICU need the money and it is quite right to encourage payment but look at any other sport or pursuit - an unregistered player/participant always has a sanction that is not revoked after subsequent compliance. It is Division 1 after all of a FIDE rated event.

I presume the games are still rated even if a player never registers?

The deadline is the end of the season. This is an interim heads-up. If registration is still outstanding at the end of the season, there is no revocation. Finglas got relegated from the Ennis for that reason a few years back.

(Technically, the league rules say points can be deducted from round 1, with 14 days for compliance, but realistically, you're never going to get all ICU fees paid two weeks into the season)

Yes; happens in lots of weekenders for example (particularly the bottom section)

    Gonzaga 5½-2½ St Benildus

Mel Ó Cinnéide drew with Sam Collins. I went from winning to lost in one move with about five minutes left out of the whole four hours...

Trinity five points clear with three games to go. Gonzaga have to play Trinity and Elm Mount. Looks like Trinity's title unless Gonzaga can get something like a 6-2 win against Trinity. And even that leaves them a point behind with two games to go.

Elm Mount 7 Curragh 1 (6 wins for Elm Mount and 2 draws)

    Bray - Elm Mount:
Elm Mount's David Fitzsimons beat, current Irish Champion, Colm Daly on board one. This follows David's defeat of (multiple) former Irish Champion, Stephen Brady (Phibsboro), in round 8.

    Dun Laoghaire 4.5 - 3.5 St Benildus.

Benildus were missing a few regulars. I think DL were missing one too. It matters not though - this was clearly a mid-table clash.
