The discussion of steroids is ok here but the active promotion and advice on how to use etc is prohibited.

The first thing would be to get some bloodwork done to a) get a baseline of your current health levels and identify any issues, deficincies and b) get a test of your T levels done

Without first being armed with that information I'd suggest it's virtually impossible to know what would be the right direction to go in terms of what to take and if you should take anything.

Think about why you need steroids, or why you think you do. Now, re-think. Do you really need them? If your training needs a boosts, what are steroids going to do? They're not going to make you feel any better during training.

Take the drifters advice, or failing that try a pre-workout. It'll give you the focus you need.

Are you at a plateau and can't get passed it in a certain lift/s? Is your diet in check? Have you got a blood dis-order/irregularity? These questions and probably a few more should be answered before you go down the road of being broke because you need to buy roids.

My advice- Sort out your diet; post it here and everyone will bash it for you. Post your training programme/frequencies/Rep maxes/How long you've been stuck.

Come back to us then :P

From what I've been told and from what I've read testosterone is something you should commit to for life (ie don't cycle it, when you start you never stop, there are various other drugs you can take to offset the side affects) and that steroids are paired with test but test is not necessarily paired with test. I imagine at 47 your testosterone levels would probably be low when compared to a 27 year old, this is natural and widely accepted.

As advised, the best way forward is to go to a doctor and get your bloods done. I recently made a thread about getting bloodwork done, with the aim of seeing what my health was looking like (testosterone and cholesterol levels etc).
    You should get:

    Test total
    Test free
    SHBG
    Estrogen
    Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)
Creatinine < this will be raised if you're lifting weights intensely and will also throw off the BUN:Creatinine ratio but its nothing to be alarmed about.
    Albumin
    Globulin
    Albumin/Globulin Ratio
    Total Bilirubin
    Alkaline Phosphatase
    GGTP
AST(SGOT) < can be slightly elevated from resistance training
    ALT(SGPT)
    LDH
    Cholesterol

    T3
    T4
TSH are also a good group to get done but make sure to get the lot done as T-4 on its own is useless

Other than that you could go trawling forums dedicated to steroid use, but a doctor will know best, not necessarily the first doctor you go to, as some have ridiculously old fashioned attitudes when it comes to steroids but there are surely some out there who know how to help you. At the end of the day if you are going to take them regardless then go see a doctor anyway and tell them that.

My advice would be f*ck what everyone else says and listen to a doctor, everyone is different and what works for them may damage you.

Yep. For safety but also for an idea of what compounds you want to use.

On a general level, I'd note that the question of steroid use deserves a very different response to a 47 year old man as opposed to an 18 year old. While I reckon it's a dreadful option for the latter unless they have a shot at the NFL / pro rugby; in the former scenario it should be an option - so long as it's been approached with a close monitoring of health levels. Saying 'fix your diet and up protein intake' to a man with decades of training under his belt is a little close minded imo.

They say your first time to just do testosterone on its own to see how you react, but really you probably don't need it man, theres so much you can do by tweaking your diet and training..take creatine, make sure and get a gram of protein for every pound of bodyweight, eat 6 smaller meals.and only complex carbs like oats,Brown rice, sweet potatoes etc.

If you do decide to go down the road of steroids make sure you read into it and get your self some post cycle therapy..and take estrogen blockers during, this will stop you gettin gyno (lump behind your nipple)..

Honestly though I'd stay away from it,get your diet in check you'll be amazed,I cant believe some of the gains I've been getting.I feel I wasted a good few years training and not eating properly...eating is the key!

Speaking as a pharmacist, I would strongly advise you not to take anabolic steroids. Even, if you were to take them, it should only be under the supervision of a suitably qualifed medical practitioner. I've seen a couple of people arrive in A+E with myocardial infarction who have admitted to using anabolic steroids.

I would agree but I also done a literature review on anabolic steroids during my pharmacy degree. There is a reason that they are a schedule 3 drug. They are hepatotoxic and at 47, you are approaching the back end of middle age. It would have a more profound effect on the liver at that age.
