Sw*ftcare cover for children

Small fracture in hand has just been diagnosed in Sw*ftcare for my child. I pay a VHI premium for him which (I understood) covered him for 2 visits to Sw*ftcare but I have just paid another €145 there for him- xrays etc. I feel completely ripped off!

Am I right in thinking that if I had gone to Tallaght/Crumlin, I'd only have paid the €100 A&E charge?

(I do accept I could have been sitting there all day ...)

Would that have been the policy excess ?

Referral from your GP would have been free, but what price would you pay to avoid 6-8 hours with the unwashed masses in A&E ?

I looked this up the other day for something similar. My policy (historically) covered two visits to the sw*ftcare however when I looked up the policy (en route to a&e!) it had been reduced to €75 cover. Which means you pay €50 to be seen and €95 for the xray.

Had you gone to a&e, yes. €100 max but you could have been there hours.

Hope the little one is ok!
