Liverpool seek to maintain their unbeaten record and make it 5 games without defeat for the first time since the time before football began (1992 obviously)

The injury list has been building recently not a game going by without someone picking up a knock - Coutinho the latest though there is a chance a couple (Allen and Toure) will play a part from the start today.

Its also the final game without Luis Suarez in the squad so this is a good time for Soton to visit Anfield and get a valuable point or three in what's been a tight enough start to their season - 5 points but just 2 goals scored and the same conceded.

Some talk about Alberto having done enough to warrant a start after his u21 hat trick in the week but I don't see it when Henderson is fit to play. Of more intrigue is the right back spot. Wisdom was poor enough against Swansea and if Kolo is fully back maybe that's where he will go for a game or two. On the other hand Kelly played 90 in that midweek game so he could get the nod.

wasn't the unbeaten start in 2009 well longer than five games? didn't lose to spurs until christmas if memory serves.

    Fun fact

Southampton are the last team to beat us competatively 6 months ago maybe 3 of those were the off season

    That was a horror game!

I do not feel confident about this one at all. We really need an early goal.

Henderson has to start for me to match them in the middle.
Hopefully Gerard and Lucas can see out the full 90 minutes.
Moses to have another good games and sturridge with another goal please

Have a feeling we could come unstuck today.......however if i am honest never expected us to be top at this or any other stage of the season.
Think Southampton have bought good over the summer......

I'm expecting a close enough game. Southampton have a nice looking team and we'll be doing well to keep them scoreless.

2-1 home win for me, Sturridge and Hendo doing the damage - Lambert with the consolation.

    2-1 pool.

Must win game for me gotta stay in that top spot for as long as we can to give us a good chance of top four this year. These are games we should absolutely be winning. No fear , at home go out and score some gosls!

Daniel to do the damage again today, Moses getting the assists, Southampton are a good team but it's a game we should be winning, especially at home, hope Alberto gets a look in today, hopefully Kelly too

Can see Stevie getting one today, perhaps from the peno spot.

Actually unbeaten in 12 games since March 16th.

The team who beat us that day.... Southampton

Not a chance if that today. I would bite your hand off for a boring 1-0 but I think it will be a score draw.

Is this at 3? Reckon pool could get a good result, 3 nil Danny S hat trick

That's a very beatable team, Southamptom will like that.

    Liverpool 4-0 Southampton.

    This?

    Mignolet,
Toure, Skrtel, Sakho Agger (or Sakho wide left?) Where is Enrique?
    Lucas, Gerrard,
    Henderson,
    Aspas---Sturridge--Moses

Liverpool subs v Southampton: Jones, Kelly, Sterling, Enrique, Wisdom, Ibe, Alberto

  • Site Banned Posts: 4,925 ✭✭✭Agueroooo

4 cb. Great to see Agger start.

Woukd have been perfect for Coutinho but whoever is playing just in front of the cb is gonna need to have there creative head on, and I can see Sturridge getting alot of ball in behind.

I predict someone's gonna get a couple of easy tap ins

I'd imagine Sakho goes to left back

Reminds me of Houlliers back 4. All CBs able to cover inside and out but little attacking threat bar set pieces

    Odd backline...

    Bizzare defensive setup.

Kelly, Wisdom and Enrique all on the bench

Rodgers must have been on the whiskey this morning

Kelly likely to be not fully fit. Wisdom struggled on Monday. Likely to be eager to keep Sakho in the team even with Agger returning.

Toure was poor when came in at RB

    We're gonna grind out a 1-0 win!

    Maybe 3 at the back?

    Mig
    ----Toure-Skrtel-Agger
    Hendo---Lucas----Sakho
    Gerrard
    Aspas---Sturridge--Moses

That's a rare starting line up! 4 centre backs?

Not half as poor as Wisdom IMO

Wisdom has been very poor so Toure is no real surprise. Enrique is a bit unlucky to lose out but obviously the thinking is to get Sakho as much game time as soon as possible.

From the start of a season I had in mind, could be wrong about that though.

What would be true is that if Sturridge scores he will be the first LFC player since Aldo in 1987/88 (?) to score in the first 5 games of a season.

08/09. We may have lost a European game but I can't remember it if we did.

    Lloyd got there first.

we need Sturridge to do something magical with that lineup IMO.

I hope we're more fluid than I foresee us being.

    Skrtel needless defensive header.

Hendo shoots at the end of a nice move.

Soton giving the back line no chance to play the ball out.

Given the players Liverpool are missing this certainly has the potential for a frustrating 0-0.
