Interested in purchasing some 36-40mm rope for climbing/sled overhand pulls etc. If anyone has any suggestions on rope type or a supplier I would be very grateful. There are plenty of options on ebay and I just want to narrow it down a bit.

Pro Fitness Supplies down in Wexford sell them for around the ton mark for a 40mm rope that's 15m long.

Marinesuppliers.ie as well. They do climbing and battle ropes.

If you're doing rope climbs, for the love of god don't get synthetic! If you slide down synthetic, you're losing the skin inside your hand. Natural ropes can be a lot more survivable, especially if they've been subjected to the elements. A wet rope is preferable to any synthetic rope!!

I got manila rope on ebay years ago. 65foot 40mm £67.90 incl delivery.

The seller is still around and still has rope

He specified mine as 40mm, when you hung off it this naturally got thinner, I think around 35mm. So the one he is selling now states 35mm, so I am not sure if this is going to get much thinner. I would not want thinner than what I got.

I remember amazingemmet saying they use cotton rope in the circus, but its very expensive, but meant to be nice for grip.

The other option is just getting thick towels and using them, if you just want handles for things. I also saw guys using mop heads on youtube for pullups, thats a good idea since they absorb sweat and are easily washed and you can grab as many/few fibres as you want.

Manila is the stuff they use for boats, IIRC.

Thanks for all the feedback. In the end I ordered a 10 meter 40mm manilla battling rope. Bit on the expensive side but it will get a lot of use.
