    Couldn't agree more MrsD........

It's disgusting that parents would put fake tan, false eyelashes etc. and parade nothing more than babies on pageants - What is wrong with these people?.....Ugh, makes my blood boil, I couldn't even watch a preview of that Toddlers and Tiaras program.......

I know this is going to be a bit controversial......... but another thing that really bothers me is the fake tan, make-up, wigs and over the top gawdy costumes that have become part of Irish dancing. In my day, the costumes were very plain and all the focus was on your dancing ability (or the lack of it in my case :o). Oh dear, I am getting old :(

No, You're not. My friends daughter is into the Irish dancing and is a fantastic little dancer but at 8 she looks exactly like a pageant doll.........it's way over the top and those wigs, etc are vile..............and expensive....

I never knew you were an Irish dancer MrsD..........:)..........must remember that for the Christmas party!!

The cost of the Irish dancing costumes would make anyone's eyes water.
Can be in the thousands . Frightening

I don't like childhood pageants , it's just so wrong, kids belong cycling bikes, kicking balls And jumping in puddles .

I too think pageants should be banned.
And I don't think the organizer should be allowed advertise her event in the national broadcaster .

I see the Balbriggan Hotel has pulled out of hosting the Pageant according to the link reported below........

Lot of hotels were approached by the organisers but refused to host the pageant. I suppose they know that it would attract no end of negative publicity if they did facilitate such an event.

I suppose they will get somewhere, I wonder what sort of numbers were they expecting?.......It's such a controlled form of a child's life........It is parents, mostly mothers I'd have to say, living out their own dream imo...........:(

Listening to Ryan's radio show (I know, I know), he has been very vocal in his disapproval of child beauty pageants.

Tomorrow night's show will make for interesting viewing - will he throw in his two cents?

Don't be going overboard with the curly wigs now.....Those little pink rollers will do! Tip - Just put them in the night before......:p

Don't talk to me about those pink rollers  My mam put them on my younger sister's hair the night before her holy communion. When my sister started complaining about how uncomfortable they were to sleep on, I took them out of her hair.

My sister didn't have lovely curls on her communion day and my mother and sister have never forgiven me :o

Wait until you see what I ended up doing to my poor child's head for her Communion...........You did your sister a favour!! The poor child was like someone put a bowl of grapes on her head........and I kept telling her "It'll fall out during the day"..........:o

    I still remember pipe cleaners!!

A few months ago we were in McDonalds when a number of children arrived in, they had obviously just come from some dance competition, they had full makeup, fake tan, very skimpy clothing etc, but the worst of it was the mother had a toddler (she could not have been more than 18 months old) with 3 different hair pieces on. The toddler was annoyed by the hairpieces and went about pulling them out, the mother caught the toddler and pushed the hairpieces back into the toddlers head with so much force that the poor little thing buckled under the pressure:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Ah cofy, I'd have had to bite the table if I was there watching that....Can they not see the madness of it?.......Have they seriously no eyes in their heads? A toddler 18 months or so with hairpieces?...........That's akin to child cruelty in my eyes.

Oh Jeezus, would have found it hard to let that go. :(

I'm the other extreme of madness, in that if my 3.5yr old is crying 'stop' I won't brush her hair. It's a bit knotty. Easier to wash hair than brush it.
She won't leave in clips, bobbles or hair bands either.

She'll be beautifying herself long enough :)

    Who?

I'm assuming by Mr's D's response that they are in a beauty pageant for kids?
And getting paid to be on the show tonight? So promoting it's worth it, even for/especially for the bad publicity.

Who is Rebecca Chippindale? - Off to Google i venture.

Would not surprise me if Dr. Muhammad Taufiq Sattar was on it tonight, He was just on Radio `1, but more than likely will be on it next week. That's Tubs morbid obsession dealt with anyway.

Who else is on tonight does anybody know?

    - I just googled Rebbeca Chippendale, and no results of any relevance..

Does anybody know who she is?

    Hardly her? - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3226895/

Maybe Rebecca has a few cousins who like to dress up (or not) as Firemen???

    Either either are most welcome....:)

From what I can gather from de twitter, Colm Meaney is on tonight.

    Plus music from Hot Sprockets.

Unlikely, unless they've had some personal tragedy. A Fireman, well, surely he'd have a few stories to tell.. ;)

Good God, i hope this isn't the Rebbeca Chippendale on the show tonight  - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1850588309

That would be too much. She apparently used to be a DJ on Atlantic 252.

Someone that can/would write a book about pushing a pram on any terrain, could talk some serious amount of cráp..

ah, whats done is done. Although it always goes well when someone you can depend on like JA or WM kicks it off.

Puppy and Kitten didn't like being entered in the pageant, but they tried their best to look enthusiastic

I agree with that saying child pagents are a disgrace should be banned in Ireland for life. A lengthy prison sentence should be held for those who do want to have them in this country.

I will be watching tonight's show without any doubt that these girls will come on the show in despite of Ryan's rightful disgust.

So what about Irish dancing contests then? Should the same be the case for them. They wear OTT dresses & make up. I think prison is a bit much to be fair.

I don't know, having socks glued to their legs etc. Why can't they just wear a plain blouse/shirt and skirt/trousers and were judged on their dancing only.

I think I may have made a mistake in my earlier post guys. Sorry about that.

I should have said that a prison sentence is too much for the parents but I think paying a fine is more suitable for them.

I honestly think that people that enter the children in "Beauty" Pageants need to get to grips with reality.
Anyone that would do that, is surely treating their child like they are a pet, or an animal. Not as if they are their Child.
Any moron that says "It's what the child wants to do, she asked me to do it" BS and any other excuse, is still responsible.
If my child said she/he wanted to taste alcohol because it looks like fun, particularly Vodka, i'm not going to let them.
It's not going to kill them....

...But i'm not going to let them go out an make an ass of themselves either.. :pac:

And 'comedy' will be provided by Dermot Whelan and Bernard O'Shea.

I miss the days when Irish dance was just about that - the dance. It can't be compared to these pagents though. I just hope Ryan doesn't go on the offensive and allows for the parents to explain their motivation, I have yet to hear a discussion where an Irish parent was able to actually talk with being shouted down.

LLS was warned earlier this month about giving these pageants air time.

Montrose researchers have urged Paid the pageant’s stars’ mothers and organisers stupid money to grant them an exclusive interview and not to speak to other broadcast outlets before them. Encouraging them to continue with this nonsense.
    It's probably more accurate now.
