    Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone here has tried 'Soy protein' for recovery of muscles?

I'm thinking of getting some in Holland & Barrett. It seems to be much more reasonably than Whey protein in terms of price! I know alot of people use whey to build muscle but i just want to maintain mine and aid recovery..so perhaps soya protein shakes are the better option?

    Any opinions?

The H&B brand of 'soy protein' has eggs in it.

They have this one too though which is grand, but not the nicest tasting.

I'm thinking of trying this one....the protein content is pretty good especially for the price you are paying for it. It also has lots of the Amino Acids that are essential for muscle growth.

That's actually the one I use :) I couldn't remember the name of it! Carbs are low in it too.

Just to pick up on what you said in the first post though, whey protein isn't going to make you 'build muscle' any more so than eating an extra chicken breast a day would.

Pointless to use at that price. Well iver twenty euro a kilo. A premium whey product can be gotten for less.

No advantages as any whey product will have a better profile, better taste and be low in carbs (assuming wpc 80 or better).

Why not just go with a quality whey protein? Its better value than buying soy protein from H&B

Thanks for your reply. What 'premium whey product' do you speak of? if you don't mind me asking...

I'm not overly concerned about taste as long as it is effective with regards muscle recovery.

In fairness OP, I'm coming at it from a vegan standpoint so if you eat dairy in your normal diet and don't have any intolerances then the other posters would be right that there's no real advantage to switching to soy.

I think there isn't much difference in the price.....plus you have to pay for delivery online and wait around a few days for delivery.

I was considering getting the above product but i said i'll give this one a go (out of convenience), and it's buy one get one half price offer at present

Also, i think protein isolate is more recommended?

Any whey product from myprotein, bulkpowders, the protein works, maxi raw etc.

You do need to order 2.5 - 5 kg at a time bit it has a long shelf like.

Before you buy though you need to assess if you need it? Why are you buying it? What do you think will happen when you use it? Etc.

H+B is 7 euro per kg more expensive than bulkpowders including delivery even with the buy one get one free.

Well, primarily for recovery. I run alot and i don't like DOMS (as i'm sure no one else does)...i don't eat alot of protein in my diet so this will help with that...i expect to recover quicker by taking protein shakes...essenitally.

It's be a good idea to sort your diet out first than jumping on to supplementing it.
