What with gamestop ripping the consumer off and the fiasco last niht with regarding getting receipts stamped etc. are you finished with them ?

Just looking at the pricing compare to other people as below :

    Tesco - €54.99
    Argos - €57.49
    Smyths - €58
    Xtravision - €60
    Gamestop - €65

They were the most expensive of all the retailers in Ireland. I for one will not be giving them one more penny of my hard earned cash.

I paid €75 for the Special Edition and don't regret a thing tbh. If people are happy to pay it then what's the problem?... nobody has a gun pointed to their heads.

Tesco & Argus etc can well afford to charge less. Without offering pre-orders, they don't particularly need to go out of their way in order to supply it to people the same as Gamestop & Xtra Vision do.

I was told when placing my preorder that it was only going to be 55/60 for the game, I dont see how the company can justify charging more than anyone else for the game. ..

Your entitled to your opinion , I am just curious to see what other peoples views on Gamestop are after this release...

I've seen threads where GS have cancelled order on people...

I don't really understand why so many people banked on Gamestop to begin with.

I ordered on Amazon on 13th (€42) and i'll be getting it end of the week by the looks of it. I left it real late, so I've no complaints

Maybe it's just me... but I'm always fairly skeptical of the abilities of a company operating within ireland to get a job like this done correctly. Be it for the lower stockcount, or basic planning on how to get it done.

Cancelling orders is absolutely shameful, but i can't say i'm surprised.

This happened to me between this and the price I am DONE with GameStop, I am not happy at how at how they are handling it. How can they accept my order and charge my card only to cancel it and tell me its sold out?

If it's sold out DON'T accept my order! They surely have an invetory checker system, when stock reaches 0 stop accepting orders. Every other site has it.

Gamestop order in less stock then demand, in order to maintain high prices and have these inflated midnight launches.

The reason they are still able to charge high prices is partly the same reason we hit a recession. People are ****ing dopes with money, simple as.

I was happy enough to order with Amazon and wait, rather then buying in GeeStop. I stopped giving them my money along time ago, even when tempted with a copy this morning. Wait until COD comes out, €70 minimum with a big fancy launch. To think the size of the queue last night with lads strolling into Tesco in clare hall picking the game up for cheaper, mental

Their a corporation, they're there to make money. If people want to pay 65 euro for a game, let them. They sold out even though people still have various alternatives on where to buy the game, no one was forced against their will.

What is the stamping of the receipts about?

Cancelling orders like that is inexcusable, and I wouldn't be the biggest fan of Gamestop in general anyway. My point was just in relation to their pricing of the game.

Companies don't really need to justify charging more than others. It's justified by the fact that people are evidently not put off by it!

Suppose its the same when some places charge more for a chicken kiev , if people are stupid enough to pay it then people will charge it.....

I let myself fall into all the hype surrounding GTA against my better judgement , this will not happen again...

I'll probably wont get it untill they drop the price and by that stage the will have ironed out the bugs in the game!

I was one of the many people to let myself get drawn in on all the hype. I have never pre ordered a game before in my life and certainly didnt queue up at midnight for one. I just felt robbed when I was told placing my pre order that it would be 55/60 euro then they charge 65 when EVERY OTHER STORE was cheaper.

This for some contrast I pre-ordered with Gamestop on there website. The game was delivered this morning at 9 and i paid €60 for it.
I can see why people are annoyed with game stop for cancelling their order and the likes but I for one have never had a issue with them.

If Gamestop didn't have such a good deal going at the moment I would have no hesitation in purchasing this game somewhere else. I'm planning to trade in GTA IV and Forza Motorsport 4 when it arrives back into stock and get it for next to nothing.

Would it be optimistic to think that another supply of GTA V will be in stores by the weekend?

Gamestop are a complete disgrace full stop, pre ordered special edition dispatched Monday its being sitting in AnPost parcel depo since for some reason wasn't delivered today. Tracking showed scan earlier but no movement seen another post here stating that all gamestop parcels were sitting in a cage not being sorted for some reason? Anyone else having this problem it's very frustrating. Lastly why are they using AnPost instead of Nightline ? They informed me that its more secure I would imagine a courier company would be the most secure, I would suspect there doing this because its cheaper for them.

The prices across the board are a bit hard to stomach, I pre ordered COD ghosts for xbox one and they said it'll be 75€. I know the prices for games havent been announced yet, but I felt like that was over the odds. If you can have a bit of patience you can save yourself 10-15 euros by buying online. I got my GTAV from play.com for €54

Yeah I totally agree , Leason learnt and will move on. People sprout on about bricks and mortar shops and trying to support them , well Gamestop fecked up here and for me the only way forward now is online.

Excuse me, but Gamestop are a business. The main purpose of a business is to make money. Gamestop did charge the most for this game, and as shown by the queues and business of Gamestop stores on the midnight launch, they must have also sold the most amount of copies. So I assume they made more money than the other retailers. Sounds like a successful business model to me.

Now, let's make sense of this. Pretty much every gamer knows well enough by now that Gamestop do charge a little more, and the likes of Tesco and Amazon are generally cheaper. So why are the majority still paying that little extra to Gamestop? Surely they feel it's worth it? I know I am very dedicated to my local Gamestop and I'm sure other people feel the same about their local store. I know I can walk into Gamestop, browse a better range of games, speak with Staff that have a good knowledge of games and can advise me on titles I may enjoy, and will tell me to steer clear of others I won't. There is a service you receive from Gamestop that you can't get in Tesco or on Amazon.

I think some people have a grudge against GameStop, I always shopped in game then when they went under I went to GameStop, they had 200odd people at the midnight launch and sold out of gta 5 on launch day, so how is that something they did wrong?
I can walk to GameStop from my house and they held my copy till near 6 yesterday, no problems there, tesco are always pulling stunts by getting a few copies in selling them cheap then running out immediately,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,122 ✭✭✭eggy81

It's only the big releases tesco sell cheaper. Check out the prices of some of the older games on their shelves. Some almost €60. GameStop are a dedicated games company. They are dead right to try make some more on these big releases as that's where their profit comes in. They do good deals on older and second hand games and console bundles. Tesco can sell anything cheap because the can cover it with their expensive groceries. It's thd same argument as the drinks trade have with them.

I purchased from GS and was a bit annoyed to be charged €65 because I was told it was either going to be €55 or €57 when I reserved it, but at the same time the game is absolutely fantastic and I would happily of paid €80 for a game of this quality.

I don't. Normally buy there. But I bopped in on Tuesday and they were selling it for 70 euros. Long queue and then "pre-orders only" mid way through the queue. The local Tesco had it for 55 euros (same version with blimp code). The girl behind the counter suggested buying my shopping so I can get 5 euros off it as well.

COD is £35 on Amazon.co.uk. I, like many others, ordered GTA V from them, used Parcel Motel's N. Ireland address and free First Class delivery and had the game before release day.

This may be the exception rather than the rule but I'd imagine if you ordered now, you'd get it in and around release day and save yourself over €30. I know what I'd be doing.

Can you buy the games on the Gamestop tradelist from Gamestop then trade them in to Gamestop to get GTA for a tenner ?

    .

Gamestop didn't sell the most copies and debatable if they made the most money. They purposefully obtain low amounts of stock to maintain their inflated prices and have a pre-order system in place to generate funds.

As to why people continue to shop here I've no idea really. I know they are simply just labelled as "the main" game shop in Ireland now, so parents and ill-informed shoppers probably keep going there.

It's not even their new titles, most titles in there are shockingly over priced. I bought a PS3 a while back and wanted to start my catalogue and had a butchers to see second hand games etc. Still charging 30-40 quid for ancient games.

Like that I in fairness there is the thought process that the likes of the OP could just not shop there, and forget about it.

I think though I'm in the same boat as the OP, I fail to understand why people support Gamestop with their business, enabling them to continue to charge higher prices when they have such a tarred name for scuppering pre-orders, purposefully ordering in low stock to keep demand high, and have been named by the gaming indisutry as having a business model that is single handedly responsible for the introduction of DRM models and financial hemoraging in the gaming market.

The only reason I pre-ordered in Gamestop was because the trade in deal suited me down to the ground. Otherwise, I'm not a fan and don't trust them.

Best decision ever. I got a copy from Argos. Staff were so friendly and polite. So glad GS won't be getting a cent of my money!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

I bought GTA from them as I wanted the special edition one and nowhere else aside from game.co.uk were getting it, but usually it's the last place I buy games. The guys and gals in the store are all fairly sound though so it's good to have a bit of banter with them, even if the company they work for are assholes :pac:
when HMV were doing their 42 quid launch day deals it was great, since hmv folded gamestop have increased their prices, I never buy 2nd hand as I dont see the point, you could get something brand new for a few quid more and if its been out a few months for a fraction of the cost online.

First hand experience working in the industry in the backend logistics.

I maintain they purposefully order in low stock to maintain their higher prices, generate buzz for midnight launches and generate revenue from pre-ordering. Alot of people pre-order there, and don't actually collect the game, or the money they actually put down on them.

Of course its a good while since I worked in the supply chain for gaming, maybe I'm off the ball here. Possible Gamestop are not a successful retailer, and simply can't order large quantities and need to maintain high pricies to cover costs. But somehow I doubt it.

I don't see the big deal. If gamestop are a bit expensive, buy from somewhere else. I'm surprised people have the attitude "the game I want now if a fiver more expensive in GS, I'm never going there again". That makes zero sense to me.
Buy where ever is the combination of cheapest/most convienient for you, simple as, doesn't matter what they might have charged in the past.

I have no problem with the price the problem I have with GS is they accepted my order online a week ago, took my money and this week they've cancelled the order as they were out of stock (why wasn't I informed this at the time of ordering, Amazon will notify you when an item is out of stock), still no refund and instead of having the game delivered to me I had to check all around town for places that still had stock available!

And how does ordering in less stock mean they'll charge more and create more hype? Surely if gamestop customers are as ill informed about the gaming industry as you imply, then they wouldn't have a clue how much stock gamestop order in and it won't have any effect on how hyped they are.

So about a week after I logged a complaint by e-mail they e-mail me back today to inform me they have limited stock of GTA in their swords store.... I don't live or work near swords and I have the game since thursday after getting a copy in Argos.

Their customer service has been poor throughout the whole GTA release.
