Anything special coming up on this year's one? I'll be watching the price rise!

    Oktoberfest Dublin 2013

I think I'll pop along this Thursday as it's Culture Night on Friday and the city will be awash with other things to do.

    http://oktoberfest-dublin.de/food-drinks/
We will offer our icecold and fresh tapped German Erdinger “Fischer’s Hell” and “Weizenbier” (wheatbeer), for the drivers we will have some non-alcoholic wheatbeer!

    That's some selection.

The Brewdock are doing "Doctober Fest", Marzens, Helles and Wheat beers on special offer AFAIK.

B&C have one on as well. I'm assuming 8 Degrees will be bringing Ochtoberfest, not sure what the others will have.

Oktoberfest Dublin is terrible. Full of people who just drink drink drink throw up and dance around in cheap lederhosen.

Pretty bad collection of beers too an oktoberfest without a Dunkel?

Only thing this festival has really going for it is the food.

I'd have thought the obviousl exclusion was the lack of Oktoberfestbier/Mazen's!

The beer selection at previous years in George's Dock was a little underwhelming to say the least. What's stopping them having a hundred varieties on tap?

It's run by the people who bring in Erdinger.

Better off hitting Brew Dock and/or B&C, where it will be warm, the beer will be good and the clowns are all kept away by being herded into the IFSC

By the way, what kind of crap name is "Irishtoberfest" :D it is such a hard word to say.

will be at the original Munich Oktoberfest again this coming fortnight for the 14th year in a row and I can say that Dunkels has no place at it.

There's 6 different takes on the Oktoberfest Märzen and each has their own characteristic taste and something like 7million litres of beer sold each year shows that I'm not the only one that is happy with what's being served!!

sorry I should have made myself more clear. I know the dublin oktoberfest as a limited amount available always had. went one year and it had a dunkel and it was the best year it ran. What I meant was that for the dublin one it would be nice if they had a dunkel available as it's quite ready available over here.

Yep, I think at the very least an Octoberfest in a foreign country (like Dublin) should showcase not only "Octoberfest" beers, but also a range of German beers. That there is one or two beers on offer is not really in keeping with the whole tradition, is it?

I hate all events down there in the IFSC, they all have a feel of "get 'em, get their money, get 'em out", this, the Xmas market and the beer thingy they run in the Spring.

Sigh..2 beers on offer yet they have the below on the website, real missed chance here by the organisers only bringing in Erdinger. I know they are the organisers but surely they could do some sort of deal to get in a few different german brews.

"For those who don’t prefer beer, we have a German wine bar with excellent German white and red wine, longdrinks (havanna-coke, vodka-red bull) and many more!"

Why would they? They have a captive audience with nothing else to buy.

But it is the tradition to have a limited selection.

if you go back to basics, any german pub will have a small selection of beers from a certain brewery to whom they are tied so folks in Germany are used to not having multiple brands. So when it comes to Volksfests, each tent will be tied to a brewery normally offering only lager, or if your lucky maybe also weissbier and alcofree too. From a practical point of view it works as the beer ladies can just keep lorrying the lager to the tables without spending half a day trying to take orders from people who cant make up their mind. So in Dublin, its actually keeping with tradition that theres a limited selection from a single brewer.

Also, Erdinger are sponsoring this particular event which may even be a loss making venture written off for its advertising benefit. You'd presume that they have no interest in showcasing other breweries wares, whether thats the tradition or not.

Brewdoc only selling weisse and helles. **** that.

Its like having a trapist festival and serving hoegarden.

Hofbrau Octoberfest is widely available, why dont they just put that on?

It would be great if you could get Augustiner on draught in this country.

And before someone tells me you can't get it on draught outside of Germany; well you can and it was delicious.

I thought it was the dopplebock, they have there own chin of pubs so I can't really see an issue with supply there helles

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 18,300 ✭✭✭✭Seaneh

The brewdock event is going to have the exact same beers as the isfc, its being sponsored by Erdinger/norest as well, erdinger flags and blue and white decorations all over the roof upstairs.

Looks like ill be going to B&C's event.

A lot of unnecessary whining and complaining if you ask me.
nobody is forcing you to go.
these events are clearly aimed at the mass market and are designed to be fun and informal, not erudite and educational.
Plenty of decent pubs in Dublin now if beer "geekery" for want of a better word is your bag.

I just think of you are going go rape the regional traditions of another country for quick profit the least you can do is sell the right type of beer.

These are Octoberfests without Octoberfest beers. Octoberfest is a beer festival at which Octoberfest beers are served. Its kind of a central part of it.

Erdinger don't brew at traditional marzen, they do a Festbier a slighter abv wheat been.

But it would look like a lot of the Octoberfest beers brewed are really beefed up Munich helles

Yeah but Joe Soap working in the IFSC heading for the Dart in going to look in and go "Yay beer".
Personally I couldn't care less if the beer is sold at the munich version so long as its nice - which fischers most certainly is.

Some people would suck the joy out of anything with their negativity and pedantry.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭drumswan

Pedantry? Lol, ok. I hear theyve done away with oysters at the Oyster Festival this year, removed the ploughing from the Ploughing Championship and will be serving Budweiser for Arthurs Day. But sure who cares, not Joe Soap thats for sure.

This is a Beer, Wine and Spirits forum for people who are into Beer, Wine and Spirits, not a 'Joe Soap who works in the IFSC and doesnt care about beer' forum.

Fischers is a pretty "meh" helles, not patch on the likes of Spatan or Augustiner Edelstoff. And nothing like an oktoberfestbier.

I was the Augustiner Starkbierfest last year. I drank far too much and fell over an embarrassing amount.

My company have decided to have a night out at this thing and some people (who probably just want a lift home) are trying to persuade me to go. As a non drinker, I'm not sure there would be much there for me. Any point in me going? Sounds like I'd end up getting some food from a stall and then watching everyone get locked for the rest of the night! Should I give this a miss and maybe attend Novina instead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,588 ✭✭✭2ndcoming

I'm kind of interested in popping around here for a few one of the Fridays. I'm actually pretty fond of Fischer's and wanna sample the grub! Only question, is it totally over the top expensive? Does anyone know how much for a mass?

That statement is factually inaccurate and ignores the fact that a "cleansing" pint of fischers is in fact, the nectar of the gods.:pac:

A beer so good that Erdinger don't even bother to sell it in it's country of production.

It's not a great beer tbh.

I did once see it at a bowling alley in Munich to be fair!

but if a company cannot even bother creating a website for one of its beer you have to admit it is a bit of an afterthought.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 18,300 ✭✭✭✭Seaneh

€10 for a litre. €5 deposit fir the glass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,588 ✭✭✭2ndcoming

Not as bad as I thought! It was 8.70 for a litre in Munich last year. In fairness that was Hofbrau or Augustiner, but I was expecting 12 minimum over here.

It's what me and my wife have been doing since A*****'s Day began, head to a pub like WJK, Mulligan's, or one of the Galway ones and just drink a nice Irish beer, not necessarily O'Hara's, or even a porter.

It's run by the people who bring in Erdinger.

Common misconception. Noreast Beers are not organising or running this event. The event, equipment etc comes from Germany and is run by the Germans. The Product itself is supplied by Noreast beers as the Importers.

In the 1st year the event was actually supplied with Paulaner. Every year since then it has been Erdinger.

Thanks to the miracle of German online publishing law, you can see exactly who's running it here.
