Samsung galaxy S4 alternative

I'm looking to buy a new phone and was looking at the S4. I'm all set to buy it apart from one thing; the size. It barely fits into my jeans pockets (obviously the solution is to use a bag but there are times when that's not possible for me) and well basically it's just massive!
So I was wondering if there is an alternative. I've been told to get the s4 and that ill get used to the size and that it's the best phone out there atm but I'm not convinced. I need a phone that I can play music on (iPod is broken) as well a use apps properly and surf the web. My current phone is useless (but was quite cheap) and I can't use apps on it properly.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Preferably not too expensive either, I was going to buy the s4 on done deal or adverts so it would be cheaper so nothing too expensive!
I'm between two minds really at the moment, do I buy the s4 and just get used to the size (I could always sell it afterwards) or get another phone? I need the apps and the Internet to work properly (I'm aware that it's most likely just my phone that these things don't work).
Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it!

No question. Half the price and a fantastic phone.

Forgot to mention I'd prefer one with an sd slot to add in extra memory. Thanks for the suggestion though, looks like a great phone!

    HTC One?

No sd slot, but cracking phone.

Yes that would seem the obvious choice. Pricey for what it is though.

It's also a surprisingly good phone though.

The S3 Mini was a bit meh compared to the S3, but the S4 Mini is much better and specs are good too.

I've sold dozens of them since they came out, and each customer has come back with really positive feedback compared to the S3 Mini (and even the S4 itself).

Yes it is much better from a specs point of view than the s3 mini versus the s3, or even the htc one mini versus the htc one. And actually now that I look it's actually quite reasonably priced from third party sellers over on Amazon.

Don't rule out the HTC one mini, tasty phone.

Have you actually tried the S4 in your jeans pocket?
Just asking as I have the larger Note 2 and don't have that issue.

I have an sgs4, I'd definitely not consider it an issue fitting it into my jeans pockets.

I find myself panicking the odd time that I've lost it, due to it being so slim.

You must have massive pockets! I've the similarly sized Nexus 4 and it doesn't fit in my jeans pockets.

I would suggest it is you who has tiny pockets unless you keep a lot of things in your pockets or wear skinny jeans.

That's end of line now, and while it was a decent phone, it's quite easily outdone by others.

Motorola really should step up their game in the EU, because the range they release here are awful compared to many of their other models.

Have you looked at the Nokia Lumia range? Cracking Phones.

Sorry for not replying sooner. I think I've settled on the Samsung galaxy s4 mini. Does anyone have any opinions on this? I saw the s3 mini and it seemed okay so the s4 mini should be better! I was also going to buy a micro sd card on amazon, will any work or is there a specific brand I should get? Would 32 gb be okay?
To add I did try the s4 in my pockets but I am a girl and wear skinny jeans a lot an it was just a bit big. I think I'd always be worried about losing it!
Would the price come down with the release if the new iPhone?
And lastly, is this a good choice?
    Thanks for all the help!

EDIT: is the music quality good? I may need to put some/all of my music on it but I presume at €400 it would be fine?
