Helping choosing my first cig-a-like

Hey guys,

I've spent way more time that I thought possible looking at potential ecigs - who'd have thought there are so many brands and options out there! I'm looking for a cig-a-like type, yes I know most of you advise to skip straight on to the bigger models, but after reading lots of differring opinions I feel they're right for me.
I've managed to narrow it down to a handful of different models and I have a few questions on each

Joyetech eRoll - uses a tank+atomizer rather than a cartomizer - is there much of a difference in the two, and which is better in terms of ease of use, running costs and quality ?

Jacvapour V1P - uses an 808 connection rather than the standard 510 - is that going to be an issue ?

Innokin AIO - looks great, but I don't really like the charging case. It seems to be one of the more recommended ecigs, but is it much better than the rest, or are they all much and a muchness - in which case I could look to something with a better PCC ?

ROK Icon - looks great, but can't seem to find many reviews - anyone know anything about it ?

Thanks for any help

The best of that lot would be the AIO but check whether 510 or 901 as I've seen they can be either.

Eroll has 808/901 connection afaik so hardly nothing can be used on it and it takes atomizer heads, as you know, which are worse than useless and expensive, very expensive.

I used SmokeGreen to begin with (in just about every shop centre round Ireland) and though good, they are 808 connection also.

Also have a Vapourlite battery which is a 510 so most clearos n carts go with them. They are automatic as opposed to manual - no button to press. Manuals are rated as being better but the Vapourlite one I found just as good if not better than...my Joyetech 510 manual batteries, and I have many...wicked smile....

So...I'd either go for AIO 510 or V/lite if I were you. Boge carto's also, to fill with your own choice of liquid for when you get tired of using the pre-filled carts which come with whatever kit you get....
...also there's a small variety of clearo's to fit the cigalikes, such as V Nano, which are good, I have a few myself. Thebestshop have them.

Cigalikes really are great for a start and they build your confidence for using bigger devices, which you WILL want and need for home after a while. Expect around 3-4 hours battery life if vaping averagely.

I also recommend the eGo mini, 350mah and 450mah batteries, so tiny and have a bit longer time in them than the above.
You can put virtually any clearo on top, so will get a full day from one fill of liquid as opposed to refilling carto's every hour or so.

Not heard of Icon, must now Gooooogle...

Happy days! Happy vaping!

More new information lol, definitely going to look into picking up one of these as well.

One additional questions about jucies - my normal smokes are 11mg nicotine, should I go for the 11mg ejuice, or go higher. The reason I ask is 18mg juice is mostly labelled as "Regular", and I'd consider my normal smokes regular strength as well ?

I smoked Marlboro lights and started on 16/18 mg, went to 12mg almost straight away.

The best I find is the Kanger T3 or T3s clearomizer with the ego C twist battery, then Turkish flavour Liqua regular 11mg

18mg would be the best strength to get for starting off - your cigs were 11mg so a 12mg liquid might not be strong enough to keep cravings away bearing in mind that e-liquid is not anywhere as harsh as an actual cigarette, especially since you don't inhale it the same way as a cigarette - you don't breathe it in to your chest like you would with a cig.

I did a bit of window shopping for you:

http://www.vaperus.ie/vaping-kits/9-innokin-aio.html#/colour-blue

Above is a 510 AIO. The pics are not good and don't show it very well but don't let that put you off. Below is a slightly better one.innokin_personal_charging_case.jpgAIO-5T.jpg?1362062648

Some AIO batteries are white and some are black. I went for SmokeGreen because I liked that the batts were white. But soon discovered that if I were to use my own liquid (and not have to keep buying SmokeGreen's own pre-filled cartomizers) that I had to buy Boge cartomizers - which are only available in black and silver.
So if 'matching-up' to look like an actual cigarette is your concern then I have to tell you that you won't be able to get cartomizers which resemble an orange cig-butt.
You'll either have a black battery with black or silver Boge's on top or a white battery with black/silver Boge's on top. When you DO buy Boge's that is.

Below are the two Boge's:

blackandstainless_wm.jpg

Below is the V-Nano clearomizer. Holds just 1ml of liquid but that's the most you'll get onto an AIO/Vapourlite/Joyetech 510 battery size:

http://www.vaperus.ie/search?controller=search&orderby=position&orderway=desc&search_query=v+nano&submit_search=Search

Below is a new clearo, Innokin iClear10S, to fit onto an AIO or a Vapourlite battery. Same 1ml capacity.

http://www.vaperus.ie/clearomizer/383-iclear10s.html

To make it easy for you, I would get either AIO or Vapourlite.

You say you don't like the look of AIO's PCC but it would be v handy for you for out n about, so you wouldn't have a dead battery. It also has a USB charger cable, to charge at home in your laptop/phone plug.
The PCC also holds a few extra cartomizers.
BUT...you get one battery so will need at least one more seperately
http://www.vaperus.ie/innokin/200-noble-battery.html

In favour of the Vapourlite, below: Some kits have two batteries.
http://www.vapourlites.com/vl7-premium-tobacco-starter-kits.html

The choice is completely yours :)

Shopping List:

AIO kit. Extra Innokin Noble battery. Set of 5 Boge's in Black. Set in Silver. 10ml bottles of 18mg strength liquid - whatever flavour you like.

OR

Vapourlite Kit with two batteries. Extra set of pre-filled cartomizers. Set of 5 Boge's in Black.
Set in Silver. 10ml bottles of 18mg strength liquid - whatever flavour you like.

You're welcome!

Vaperus sell 510 brown/yellow innokin cartomizers, bit pricey though.

I know, but I was the same - eGo's were MASSIVE to me at first and as for venturing out with anything smaller than a 510? How can I make this frightened face a lot bigger! ><

csi vegas - you sir, are a legend, thanks for the post. On the fence at the minute regarding getting either the Innokin or the Jacvapour, can't find a bad review on either.
Quick question on the clearos, what's the lifespan on them like ? Ballpark figure is fine.

About the bigger devices, might be something I'd look into for home use, but for out and about I don't really think I'd be that comfortable just yet.

I, csi, am a laydee! (said in Little Britain style "Laydee"! Haha!)
Lots of posters make the same assumption (that I'm a MAN haha!)

The innokin is waaay different to the Jacvapour - J/V is a cigalike, Innokin is about three times the size of it and you wouldn't be able to 'hide' it in your hand to do that 'cool whole-hand smoking' thing.
It's meant to be really good - pefect for at home for a new vaper.
If you've got the spare cash to splash get one for home, for now, WITH Innokin iClear 16 (clearomizers) or Kanger eVods (clearomizers).

Nevermind Jac though - go for Vapourlite or AIO.

Lifespan of clearo's: an eVod/T3/iClear 16/Vivi Nova - probably about 4/5 - 7 days before it burns out and you then replace with a new 'head' (or re-wick if you're more experienced). I can sometimes get a fortnight if I'm lucky. Depends on voltage of battery (higher volts burn it out quicker) and how much you are vaping.

My most humble apologies ma'am :)
Nevertheless many thanks for your help in pushing me in the right direction, I'm going to follow your shopping list for the AIO (still not delighted that the PCC doesn't hold a fully assembled ecig, but I'm sure I'll get used to it), although I may throw in one of those clearos to see what they're like.
On the eliquid, I won't ask you to recommend a flavour, but are there any brands that stand out as being good quality ?

There are a few pcc's which do hold a full unit, looking at around €25 for one alone though.

People here rave on about El Toro liquids - rated THE best - Puros, Naturelle, and Virginia Prime I think, all from esmokeireland.
Wingnuts range would be next best they say.
Mom n Pops too. All at esmoke.

Things have to be ordered from different places most of the time, that's just something to bear in mind.

So I had the AIO all lined up ready to buy, but by the time I'd added in all the extras I felt like the price was pretty high to pay for something that might end up not fulfilling my needs. I mean right now I'm 100% sure I want, and need, a cigalike - but a week or a month down the line, who can really know ?

So I've had a bit of a think and a bit of a look around and I've put together this little selection:

"]vaperus.jpg

It's cheaper and more versatile than the AIO - what do you think ?

the 2.6ohm coil is way too high and the evod would look and feel all wrong on a 510 battery
just get two mini ones if you're concerned about the length of it, and two 1.8ohms instead of the 1 of each

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 448 ✭✭Mad_Dave

My plan was to use the 510 with the cartomizers, and the evod with the mini ego - two seperate setups to ease me into vaping.

• Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

ah right, that should be fine. the 2.6ohm head for the evod is still too high though

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭EGriff

That charger won't charge the 510 battery will it? Looks like ego only.

• Closed Accounts Posts: 26,567 ✭✭✭✭Fratton Fred

Dave, I started with the single eGo/CE4 kit, which was perfect.

The 650mah battery isn't too big and for me was a good intro into vaping.

You can get them for €20 from vaperus or thebestshop, including the charger.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 745 ✭✭✭csi vegas

Good choices Dave - you'll be especially delighted with the mini eGo's.
They take the Boge's too so you'll get to try both them and the Evod's on it.

If you haven't ordered already, do try out a couple more different liquids and also get a drip tip or two in black, to put onto the Boge's - they're just that bit nicer to vape through.

ALSO: I think you might need an eGo charger
- I don't think the Joyetech one will be right for the eGo. They do 'fit' and charge and everything but I'm sure I read somewhere that too high an amp charger could blow a 510 battery.

I know I had even had to get a separate 510-T charger for my 510-T batteries - a vendor sent me on one free of charge, saying that a 510 charger would not even be suitable for the 510-T battery I have.
Opinions welcome from other posters on this. I just like to be sure I'm following proper safety guidelines.

Thanks for all the advice guys and girls - drip tips added and 2.6 coil removed :)
I'm definitely looking at more varied juice, I've been trying to find a 6 x 5ml variety pack - I know I saw one somewhere...

Here's a direct link to the charger: http://www.vaperus.ie/chargers/186-joyetech-charge-lead.html. I'm assuming the 150Mah version will charge both ?

Not sure about that to be honest - they have, as you know, a selection of 150 and 450mah cables - the 510 and eGo batteries are both Joyetech.
The 150mah will be fine for the 510 battery but the eGo battery (350/450mah) might be too high for it. Vaperus are usually on here daily (that's also their Username) - maybe PM them?

Your order is from Vaperus, is it?
Don't know if they have any sample packs but e-smokeireland now seems to have had - just took a look there and usually their Wingnuts were available in x5 bottles to buy seperately (I think), but not anymore?
I know you used to get x5 with their Kanger Twist Starter Kit but now it's x3 bottles (and a 30ml Mom n Pops liquid aswell).
Bargainvapour have 5ml bottles for sample:

Big thanks to everyone who commented, made suggestions and pointed out mistakes - placed my order today :)
Was completely overwhelmed by the range of flavours and juices available, in the end I went with 3x10ml bottles - T-Juice US Red, Liqua Bright Tobacco and T-Juice Bubblegun.
Starting a new job Monday, so it was really important to me to have everything by Friday, I don't have much trust in An Posts dependability so I was delighted to find that VapeRus is just down the road from me and has an order&collect service, perfect.

On a related note I saw my first ever person vaping in public today, never noticed anyone using an ecig before - now that I'm more aware I wonder how many others I'll spot !

Not, sure but they seem to make a point of pulling it out when they see someone with an e-cig, it's a bit of dick measuring contest from my observations.:pac:

I see mention of chargers and battery, this is important! Do not charge 510 slim battery on an ego charger. You can charge an ego on a 510 charger, it will take longer but the output is too high to charge the other way. The chargers are marked but it's a very small label and tbh could do with clearer marking.

First full day of vaping, initial impressions are pretty positive. The fact the I'm doing something with my hands, and the vapour produced, is making it much more effective than patches or gum at relieveing the craving.
Tried a few different eliquids, the T-Juice ones (US Red and Bubblegun) are quite nice, but the Liqua Bright Tobacco is horrendous! Tastes like a slightly sweeter version of the dry ice smoke machines you get in nightclubs. Maybe when my sense of taste comes back I'll change my mind, but for now that's one for the cupboard.

I don't think a first timer can go wrong with a couple of ego vv twist batteries (an ego charger) and a couple of evods (screwed to hand tight only), America blend and a menthol.

I'm 15 weeks in so I'm dual micro-coiling with cotton on my Ithaka. >> stares at the shiney shelf >> it's not about saving money!
