Is there a thread for this already?

I thought it would be fun to know what clubs/societies people are members of. Would be fun to see if any fellow members were on the board.

I'll start us off, I am a member in Bray Golf club since being a junior, I am 30 now.

Also a member in Hollystown, first year there having previously been a member in Tulfarris for the preceding two years.
May look into moving clubs again next year but there's a serious lack of value in north Dublin.

plenty of value from what I see around north Dublin

what do you consider good value?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 601 ✭✭✭lester76

Mountain view my 1st club there 2yrs now. Thinking of joining tramore but still 950e is still very high in this day & age. I like to travel around so the 150e I pay for my gui card suits me right now.

I think for what you pay the quality is on lower side on Northside.
The good ones are still old school.

There is nothing like Carton House, City West, Palmerstown House, Heritage.
You pay the same price for very average complexes.

I think that is what he is getting at, or at least what I observed when I went looking.

I figured he is looking for cheap golf really. You're not really going find that on a decent course in Dublin for the simple reason of supply and demand. More people living in the area, means memberships aren't so hard to fill and there is no need to give the massive discounts that are to be found down the country. Clubs that were built in the last 10-15 years (lots of which shouldn't have been allowed) are now just trying to claw in some kind of revenue to keep them afloat so that is why they are knocking the prices down. If you are living near them places, or are willing to travel, then the likes of Bunclody gives really awesome value for money.

Back to Dublin though, i agree the old north Dublin clubs are are still old schoo but I wouldn't be beefing up City west, and Carton is not cheap. Luttrelstown is a damn fine golf course and I would pick that over Carton any day of the week - same kind of money

Castleknock is one that springs to mind.... incredible value with membership starting from €600 for 5 day, but the full membership is great value also...value does not = cheap

if you want cheap, try elm green or sillogue, different class of golf though

there is roganstown thursday only membership of only 270...

there are also loads of great deals to be found by playing open competitions, i played some corkers this year from 10 or 15 quid!

Slievenamon here this year. Past member of Mitchelstown for 3years but came down to financials to change.

Has it's downsides in that I don't get out at any random times and there's less of a club spirit due to this, but I've played more courses this year than ever. If I added it up it might not be a whole lot in the difference monetary wise but it don't seem to hurt the pocket as much.

I'm a pay as you golfer as opposed to a billpay:D

In second year as a member in moyvalley. Was a distance member in ballinlough castle in westmeath for a couple of years before that (mostly playing society golf at that time). Around 15 years ago (I'm 32 now) was a junior member in rathdowney for a year or two and a student member heath after that - still regret not playing more when I was younger!

Tried Hollystown for a year before that but the 40 min. drive put me off playing. Love Howth, great friendly members, and a tricky fun course.

Yeah they were in trouble last I heard. Built a new club house few years ago. Be a shame because its a nice course. Just a bit out of the way!!

    Donabate Golf Club.

First club as I only took up golf in late April and joined in June. Grand spot for learning the trade. 27 holes means you can always get a tee time and other members seem friendly enough. They also do a mean chicken tikka panini in the clubhouse.
