    Hi All,

I wasn't too sure where to put this, but, I trying to get my parents a one box solution so they can get the RTE channels but also BBC and Challenge.

Now I started looking for a setup box but I came across a thread here about TV's that have a satellite and Saorview Tuner installed. I thought this would be ideal.

I found this Cello C22103F quad in Powercity. It has a DVD player as well which is a big plus.

Has anyone used one of these Tv's? I am not so worried about the picture quality so much as how well it handles the channels and ease of use. Can you add and delete channels? can you sort them? How does it handle switching between tuners?

Or would I still be better to go for a twin tuner box and use that?

They don't need to record or anything like that.

Well if nobody has that model of TV has anyone experience with twin tuner TV's at all? Can anyone point out any issues that they have?

I was at a working at house last Thursday and the house owner was after buying 1 of these Cello C22103F to hang on the kitchen wall. He has since taking down the TV and sent it back and bought a LG 32" TV as he said that he needed to have the Cello TV volume turned up to the Full and had to be at least 7-8 feet away from it to hear the sound clearly.

Thanks for the replies. The volume been that bad might be a problem as my parents are old. I wonder is that the norm or was it just a bad TV.

How much was that 32inch tv? Do you have a model number for it? I am looking for something less than €300

    Walker have a 32" combi TV (Saorview/sat/DVD) €380 - http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-12-WPS32D&pages=1&prod=WPS32D&brands=WALKER&image=

Thank you very much Kooga, will take a look for that TV. Hope it wasn't a one day special :-)

Here's an LG for just under €300: http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-12-4180117&pages=1&prod=4180117&brands=LG&image=

    Doesn't record.

Thank guys, My budget is max 300 euro and even that is stretching it. That's why I was really hoping that the Cello would be ok. Not looking for anything brilliant, just an average TV that's decent with satellite and saorview channels.

I think I might just go for a cheap twin tuner box. I don't need record or anything like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 136 ✭✭reaper12

or maybe even getting some cheap speakers to put with the 22 inch cello would be another option.

    Check your 1st link again, Ronnie . . .

Thanks for the link, but the problem with that TV is that I don't think it has a Satellite Tuner. It's listed in powercity as having one but it's not listed in the specs on the manufacturers website. Even Curry's says it only has a DTT tuner.

You won't find any reference to satellite tuners on the LG site but, the specs. for practically every tv mention 2 RF connections (would be for terrestrial aerial & sat. dish).

One thing I'd point out about this tv is that the screen is 'HD ready' 1366 x 768 resolution, rather than 'Full HD' 1920 x 1080, if that matters to you.

Just to add to the general question of dual tuner TV's, one thing to check if it has a combined channel list. Some TVs (like my Samsung) will not let you create a single channel list with channels from different tuners. Can be a bit of a pain (basically means I never browse onto the Irish channels, have to make a deliberate decision to change the tuner).

I just checked with Richersounds, it only has a freeview tuner, no freesat. The Hd ready doesnt really bother me, it's for my parents.

Why would Powercity advertise it as 'Saorview & satellite'? Were you talking to someone from RS?

It can have a satellite tuner without being licensed by Freesat btw. Only Samsung & Panasonic are making Freesat tvs atm.

Yeah, that's what I am trying to find out, it seems nobody has the Cello at all. I might try and ring powercity and see if they know.

I was looking at the 26 Walker one as well, WP26FTA. It looks ok, but does it have a combined channel list? It would be really good it if did.

Yeah, I rang, they have to ring back to confirm but they are fairly sure it only comes with a freeview tuner.

But, I am fairly sure Powercity have the listing wrong. I have checked the TV on a good few sites, richersounds, ebay, harvery norman, curry's, pc world misco.ie etc. They only list a DTT tuner, Powercity is the only one listing it as having a satellite tuner as well.

Surely if it had two tuners one of the other sites would have mentioned it?

Someone pop into a powercity for him and check :D

Richer Sounds have the 32LN540V 'with satellite tuner'. Powercity is the only other place I've seen make reference to it on this model too.

A search of RS site doesn't find the 540U so it's possible they don't have 1st hand experience of it.

    http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/lg/32ln540u/lg-32ln540u

This is where I saw it. If you click on specs you can see it clearly lists that it doesn't have a satellite tuner. It might be one of two things, either the model number in power city is wrong and they have the 540V or they have listed the spes for the 540V but only have the 540U :D

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,285 ✭✭✭Peter Rhea

The .com site doesn't mention the satellite tuner in the 540V either: see the .ie site: http://www.richersounds.ie/asp/product.asp?ObjectID=938&Mode=0&CategoryID=6&sub=155&productid=1357

It would appear as if LG have quietly made satellite tuners standard, in UK & Ireland models anyway, & people just haven't copped on.

Actually, neither have satellite tuners, the difference between the U and the V is that the U is HD ready while the V is Full HD. The Powercity listing must be wrong.

Where are you getting this information? See the 3rd review here: http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-32LN540V
Very surprised to find a Satellite connector on it, and once connected it all tuned fine. It doesn't arrange the channels at all, but does allow the channels to be re-arranged by hand, took some time to set them up, once done fills in a few gaps in the Freeview line up for us with Film4+1 and some childrens channels, that made me very popular!

the specs on the LG site mentions 2 RF connectors on the rear, 1 for the aerial and the other I would assume is the satellite RF in, no reason to have a second aerial in.

If browsing the TVs in the shop have a look at the rear and if they have a screw on connector (F connector) in addition to the standard co-ax aerial socket it will most likely have an on board satellite tuner
LG 32LN540V with Satellite tuner (LED)

    ...

This TV also features a satellite tuner although is not sold as a freesat TV but can pickup satellite channels

Selecting between satellite and saorview visa versa might be a bit of a hassle for elderly people with this TV. If they are watching satellite they will have to hit Input/AV on the remote and move from satellite to aerial then press ok to highlight aerial then press exit to watch tv and visa versa to watch watch satellite.

On the Walker Saorview/satellite combi TVs how is the switching between the Saorview and satellite tuners done?

  • Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 3,585 Mod ✭✭✭✭St Senan

Similar to what i have just said about the LG. On the walker models i have come across there is a button at the bottom of the remote and when you press that you move to either Aerial, Satellite or Cable choose which ever you want press the ok middle button and then press Exit to watch the channels. The only good thing about the Cello mentioned at the start of this thread is that there are 2 separate buttons at the top of the remote marked Saorview and Satellite just press what ever 1 you want.

Hey, sorry, I wasn't online much this weekend and never got a chance to reply. That review is the first one that I have seen that mentions the satellite connection. So it might have one.

I am getting my information from Richersounds, I rang them and they rang back. No freesat tuner on either model that they have.

Guess I will see when I go up to powercity :D

So you have seen the Cello working? If I didn't care about the sound quality would the Cello be a good enough TV for a kitchen? Or I am better off to get the Walker?

The LG tvs are not Freesat products but that doesn't mean they don't have a satellite tuner. Actual Freesat branded products can access the Freesat EPG & interactive features & they also receive automatic channel & software updates.

Currently, only Samsung & Panasonic are making Freesat tvs.

If Richer Sounds believe that neither the 540 U or V have a satellite tuner, they should remove the reference to it in the description of the 540V on their Irish site.

I'll happily persist in my belief that all 2013 European model LGs have satellite tuners.

For ease of use and switching between Saorview and Satellite then I recommend the Cello 22", Only the poor sound quality and low sound level lets the TV down big time.

In which you case you just add one of these.......

No fiddling once hooked up from the headphone out on the television (Headphone socket in spec of Cello), switch on back of bass bin can be left on and turned off at main switch like TV. Sound pre set on Speakers - TV remote still contols volume.

    £40 free delivery.

yep i agree something like that would be needed to use with the Cello.
It seems to be only Free UK delivery though.

The Free Super Saver stuff over £25 on amazon is delivered free in Ireland.

Got one last year for £31 with free delivery for the Dad as his hearing aint great and they are a good walk away install. Quite powerful with long cables.

You will nead a 3.5mm stereo mini jack to mini jack cable too, which are about a euro or two. You dont need that volume jog wheel (its just a cable volume control). Just plug the mini jack in and turn up the volume on the back of the main bin and your Cello TV remote can control it. A walk away install.

That's great, I can solve the sound problem with some cheap speakers like STB has mentioned in his post. Other than that the TV is ok?

The sub part is the key as it is powered and has an amplifier built into it. This is why these devices are handy.... one of the cheapest all in one out there.

    Back of sub

The red and white are left and right speaker outputs (not phono inputs), the line in (from headphone out on TV) is below. The 2 dials are sub volume and main volume.

Just got the cello, and the tv is fine, but i am finding it difficult to make a favorite list eg bbc1 on 1, bbc2 on 2 etc. The remote is fine for volume etc but the favorite list is a challenge.

There is no manual included in the box
