Ok, I floated this past a few folks at recent races and there seems to be a bit of an appetite.

    When: Fri 27th Dec
    Time: 09:30
    Start: Howth Dart Station
    Finish: Greystones Dart Station
Course: Hugging the Coast we can always do a lap in Shanganagh or somewhere to make it a 50k.
Afters: Sweaty beers and nibbles in the Beach House or the Burnaby
Logistics: Hop on the Dart to get to the start, hop on the Dart to get home.
    Pace: Easy
Nutrition: Whatever you can carry or whatever you can buy in Clontarf, Blackrock, Dun Laoghaire, Bray.
Baggage area: Whatever you can carry
I can organise T Shirts, Wipes, Towels back in Greystones.

    Any early takers?

Sounds like fun but that's about 30k longer than I would be comfortable running!! :o Is there a shortcut for the middle distance guys??!:D

Yep, we can plan to pick up at any of the Dart Stations along the route.

Hmm starting and finishing at Dart stations reckon 4 x around the car parks while waiting for the rest (2 for the sprinters) followed by gym work (bicep curls) and you have a good middle distance workout :D

Does the dart go direct to greystones? I could just meet you all there and skip the run :) Sounds interesting. Put me down as a maybe. I suppose somebody will have to come along and babysit ecoli. Two beer shandys and he could get himself into all sorts of trouble.

    Count me in.

My parents live equidistant between both of those pubs*, so venue suits me a lot better than the Beer Mile.

(*Having been in that pub toilet after the beer mile, this will not be a scene that will be replicated in my parent's house so I cannot offer shower facilities)

    Daart to Dort, surely?

Great idea BB, I'm on if free that day. By the way, it 7.02k from Howth to Dun Laoghaire East pier. Hmmm...

Sounds like a good idea , would be up for a few miles anyway the full distance might be a bit much. Usually hit the vino a bit hard that time if year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,915 ✭✭✭✭menoscemo

Are you sure you are not stealing this idea from somewhere else ;)

The first annual Howth to Bray 30 mile run in 2011 was actually planned to finish in Greystones until a certain Bray native offered his house as a start/finish point so we tagged a few extra miles on out to Poolbeg lighthouse to make up the distance. Since then the 2011 route has been an annual March fixture.

It would be nice to run the original planned route and a nice tune up for the Donadea 50k. I'm pretty sure you can count me in.....

You sure about that? Looking at the Garmin, there's a "****, we've run into a dead end" u-turn just as they cross to the south side. ;)

:D Can I get you to measure the course? Feckers like this will want an AAI certificate. Make sure to leave it half a mile short in true UM1 style ;)

After further discussions over dinner in the Mespil, just getting this formally off the ground :D
Sticking in a few options for those that might want a shorter run.

Looks good Beepbeep, I'm definitely in for it if I'm in Dublin rather than down West.
Will do my best to be around for it anyways.

By any chance did you run it by Frank and is there a possibility of it being deemed an official marathon under MCI rules? If we go to all that effort of running a marathon+ distance we may as well get recognition for it if it's not too troublesome.

Will you be starting in Howth and Finishing in D'Laoghaire or starting in D'Laoghaire?
I will probably do the former since I have a 5 mile race the day before...we could just graba dart from D'laoghaire and get the pints in while waiting for the troops to arrive :D

Will hopefully join you for some of it, but have a wedding in Killiney in the afternoon, so will likely need to cut-out at some point. Perhaps I could have a quick wash in the sea and go straight? Run in my tux, or go to the wedding in my running gear? Choices, choices...
