Fast aperture, wide angle prime lens - options?

I think my next lens has to be a fairly fast wide angle prime. I have a 50mm f1.8 which I like but I find a lot of the time its just too narrow on a crop body. I have a Sigma 10-20mm but I want a more high quality walk around lens. something around 35mm or close.

Want smoething decent but my budget it not huge. I was thinking of maybe a Canon 35mm f2 - they can be found for not bad money although I hear the focusing leaves some to be desired and its loud. I like the sound of the Sigma 35mm f1.4 but its more than I was hoping to spend, and its also fairly weighty.

Any opinions on the above and what else should I consider?

Thanks that looks pretty interesting. Not cheap, but f1.8 across that range is pretty impressive. I do love my 10-20mm though, way more than my 50mm... I wonder would I start using this as my day to day lens instead of my 24-105?

meant to be good but ask for sample photos before you buy even if new

i have one for sale; it'd mean moving to a 4/3 mount, but sure that's a minor detail.

Thanks, ken rockwell recommends the Canon 28mm f1.8 instead - that's worth considering too! Not too far off 35mm

Hi guys I have a Sigma 18-35 1.8 and it's a great lens. I have some Canon L glass and I can't say this Sigma can't keep up in terms of picture quality.

Not the cheapest but I love it.

Looking at a Panasonic Lumix f2.5 14mm on e-bay - looks to be a good price, about €150 including p&p - has anyone any advice on this ... I have a Canon f1.4 50mm S.C.C. FD mount but I want a lens that communicates with the camera - unfortunately I find that my eyes are sometimes dodgy when it comes to 100% focus of a subject - the Canon is used in the custom mode ... looking for a wide lens that is fairly fast and can be used with AI settings communication

That 14mm is a M4/3 system lens. I doubt if you could use that on a Canon and even if you did, the image circle might be a bit small.

Slight confusion here - I have a Panasonic Lumix G1 and use an adaptor ring to use the Canon FD mount lenses ... but lose communication with the camera ... hence the need for a M4/3 system lens ... a fast lens that communicates to enable AI programme to operate. I bought the lens anyway ...

I use a Canon EF24 f2.8 (non IS) on a 40D and love it.
