It's only been a couple of months since he was convicted so surely he was on suicide watch.

The rest of your life treated like dirt in prison.
    I'd take the hangin.

Maybe the Cuban people will move away from communism now he's gone?

Glad I got to see Havanat while it was still under his rule all the same.

He couldn't last a few months in prison with decent conditions compared to what he put those poor girls through for years. Much to short a punishment and escape for him.

Pity Ian Huntley wouldn't follow his example.

Took the easy way out. He was in protective custody ffs, it's not like he was being abused by other prisoners. I hope it brings some peace to his victims, though.

His only way out of jail was always going to be in a box, he just chose to leave sooner than later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,681 ✭✭✭✭P_1

He took the easy way out. Frankly after what he put those women through his time of death should not have been of his own choice.

He shouldn't of been left choose though. It's incredibly negligent on the part of the prison officials for leaving him an option to hang himself.

Able to give it out but not able to take it. Frickin coward.

    Dead giveaway!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,720 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Killed himself after about a month in prison. Proving he had less than 1% of the strength and willpower his victims did.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,754 ✭✭✭oldyouth

Perhaps his victims will feel more at peace certain that he cannot hurt them anymore (interviews, write a book, escape etc)

I for one am completely devastated by this tragic news. My thoughts and prayers go out to the mans family.
I hope we can all respect their right to privacy during this awful time.

I am crying as I type this.

That's the correct Boards response, right?

I heard the prisoner was given a new closet, he wanted more hanging space.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,722 ✭✭✭silly

Hope it was painful for him. Hard to say wether his victims would be delighted he's dead now, or if they wold have rather him suffer for as long as they did first..

Echo this. He was a coward in life and took the cowardly way out of life as well... It was too good an end for him.

If I was one of his victims I would feel cheated in some way. I would have liked to see him suffer and end his days (a long time from now) having known what it was like to be imprisoned.

I was wondering about this exact thing this morning. I'm glad at least (for them) that he was found guilty and convicted of the many crimes he committed against them. I think it would have been worse if he had died before hand.

One of the victims, Knight, said that the death penalty would be too good for him. I'm pretty sure she'll be right pissed off with the people that were supposed to watch him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,889 ✭✭✭tolosenc

I don't get why he pleaded out to avoid the death penalty, only to kill himself a month later. Surely he could kill himself as easily on death row as not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,071 ✭✭✭✭wp_rathead

shame on the prison for allowing this, if they found to be negligent in his suicide they basicaly enabled this man escape his punishment ...

Meh, a victory for the American tax-payer.

If only he would have killed himself 10 years earlier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭Holsten

I doubt this will bring any comfort or closure to his victims.

Just one less person to keep locked up for the Americans.

Dunno how he was able to actually do it.. surely he was on some type of suicide watch? Sentenced to 1000 years yet they can't even keep him alive for one.

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say that I think the guy who killed himself after taking 3 girls hostage for a decade may not have been the most stable mentally. So he may not have thought the whole thing through.

Wish all the best for the 3 girls.

4 girls, there was a child too.

    Glad the sicko is dead.

Seems to me that the bleeding heart liberal tendency tend to think of US prisons as being a harsh regime? A type of severe punishment compared to Western European jails.

Whilst they appear to be very strict discipline wise & spartan in facilities, they certainly give adequate medical care & food to inmates. It's not as if they are Soviet style gulags or third world prisons with torture chambers.

Worldwide most political prisoners are held in much worse conditions than this scumbag would have been.

The only US American prisons that could be called a severe regime for inmates is Guantanamo bay & other camps, but they are not subject to regular US legal law.

Anyway I've got no sympathy with the gutless coward. Let him hang!!!

Think it was a son, can't speak for them but if it were me I'd be happier with the latter. I suspect it will affect them deeply.

This was my response earlier on the other thread.
    Dirty fcuking scumbag.

He had no problem torturing the three women that he kidnapped and inflicting horrific abuses and pain and punishments upon them. And when it came to paying for those actions and getting imprisoned which is very mild compared to what he dished out to those three women, he couldn't hack it.

    He's scum

He shouldn't of been left choose though.
i'm afraid it doesn't work like that, nothing can be done to stop him choosing the time of his death, if he wants to kill himself theirs nothing the prison authorities can do to stop him, their are many ways to do it and it could only take a split second.
It's incredibly negligent on the part of the prison officials for leaving him an option to hang himself.
no it isn't, what do you expect them to do? even if he was on suicide watch theirs no guarintee that he still couldn't pull it off

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

Yes. He shouldn't ...have been left choose though.
Indeed theres nothing the prison authorities could do to stop him, there are many ways to do it.
    Theres no guarantee.
Oh well, thats their responsibility and they're the ones who should have been there.

well nobody can stop him from choosing his own death, even on death row it is probably possible to kill oneself.

The Prison will be in trouble with this. Lifer's in solitary confinement in a max security facility aren't even allowed to have shoelaces, the staples are removed from their magazines. They're also supposed to have round the clock supervision.
