    Who didn't see that coming?
    5KqlsBd.jpg?1

The September Event is now confirmed. Likely the public release of iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks. Also the very 'secret' iPhone 5S and the rumoured (and very leaked) iPhone 5C.

The invitation seems to suggest the iPhone 5C colour scheme. But also could relate to the new look iOS 7.

    http://9to5mac.com/2013/09/03/apple-announces-its-september-10-iphone-media-event/

As usual the event will kick off at 6pm GMT (Irish Time). It will most likely be live streamed like previous events.

We'll get the usual bull like

"The 5C has so many colours, Its Revolutionary"

Apple have been constantly getting better with the release date schedule. This year there's a possibility Ireland could get it on launch day. For the iPhone 5 we got it 1 week after the US IIRC and this year has no major design changes so they could be well ahead with shipments.

I see they are having an event in china on the 11th as well. Could be a 5s for USA Europe and 5c for china India.

Doubt it, they'll sell both the 5s and the 5c in the western by the bucket loads.

The event in china will be just a partnership with Chinese carriers etc.

Mavericks will come later. Probably at an iPad/Mac event in October/November. It's most likely been getting the short shrift lately as Apple rushes to finish iOS 7, so there's no way it would be ready.

Come on and launch the MacPro already! - my long-suffering mac is starting to die and I've the trust fund set aside for it's replacement.

I thought similar when I first saw it but then the invite wouldbt make sense if they weren't offering the 5C in the US and Europe.

Nah, they'll release them in all countries.

Apple are doing another conference in China as it's a market they're trying really hard to break into, as it's worth billions.

iPhones tend to be much desired in China, but are extremely expensive to buy (often over €1,000 depending on the area) so this is a public face thing I'd imagine.

I don't know, Mavricks is up to Developer Preview 7, and going by online reports, it's really stable and with the latest update it brings some finishing touches like a new Wallpaper Gallery.

Seems to me that OS X is a more stable release than iOS 7 at the moment. The only reason to delay the public release would be to add more of a spotlight to the Mac refresh rumoured for later this year. It could be a situation where they hold off on the iPad version of iOS 7 and Mavricks for an October event to release alongside new Macs and iPads.

I personally think Mavricks will be released this September but suppose only time will tell.

What release date would we be expecting?
    20/21st sepember?

For what exactly? iPhone is rumoured to be released on the 20th. iOS 7 could be a few days before. The two seperate iPhones could have seperate release dates too. Always a possibility.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

    My guess would be:

    iPhone 5C - available immediately.
iPhone 5S - available to preorder, ships in 7-10 days

Mavericks if mentioned at this event available within 7-10 days.

I remember the first few iPhone launches, I was like a kid waiting for Christmas. Now, it's like "meh, new iPhone coming". The fact that this thread, as well as the iPhone 5S/C thread, have so few responses show how hum drum the whole things gotten. I'd love to know what size the equivalent threads for the 3GS & 4 were at this stage.

There's also a lot more leaks the last 2 years so that takes away a lot of the conversation and speculation. Other than the iPhone 4 leak of course, but that caused a lot of publicity for the iPhone even before it was released.

How 'deep' are the changes in iOS7, can any hardcore person tell me?

Fundementally it's the same ux wise. there are new ways to do things but it won't be a totally new experience. the notifications might be slightly more useful and the Control Center gives you quick access to settings and useful core apps. aside from that,it's skin deep

    banquo wrote: »

I wouldn't say they are deep changes.

It's certainly a more pleasing UI to look at, much more colourful and pleasing to look at and use compared to iOS6 and previous incarnations.

My issue with iOS over the years was how dull it looks compared to other OS's and lack of customization, but even I have to admit that iOS7 looks very nice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

wouldn't say it's just skin deep. they've built full animation engines that run at 60fps that developers can take advantage of, that's a **** load of optimisation.

Well yes but consumers wont notice the new API changes, animations are just that skin deep etc... What I should have said was that the paradigms of iOS haven't change, its still functions the way you remember it.

Well the URL was more for the comparison image they have of the two systems side by side, my question was what I asked myself when I first seen iOS 7, and also a comment someone else made to me about it (yes, they were an android user, fair enough).

iOS has taken designs cues from android and vice versa, t'is no biggy.

They'd be better off just going with iPhone 6 and forgetting all these sub versions of 5X

    It's sounding like Tesco's strategy :

    Value iPhone
    iPhone
    Finest* iPhone

Good point, I never really thought of the similarities going both ways, but you're definitely right

I think you're right, I've always seen Apple as a high end device maker rather than having a range of high, mid and low end stuff.

All the same I'm looking forward to handling the 5c just to see what it's like, I've always known Apples manufacturing quality to be very high so even for a mid/low end device i'm still expecting it to look pretty slick

I wonder if the 5C will have the same Apple warranty as they all fall apart in our little hands.

I personally don't like the idea of a 5C. Will carry a Porsche Boxster stigma too. How about you bring out expandable memory Apple? !!!!!!

I've had all the iPhones since the 3GS and this is the first year I really don't care about the new releases.

The 5C is absolutely pointless for someone like me and a 5S with minor upgrades is just too little.

I'm looking at the S4 right now but I'll probably just keep the 5 and see what they do with the iPhone 6.

Well I imagine the 5C is aimed at a younger audience (younger teenagers), who are spending their parents money rather than their own??

Expandable memory would be nice, but really when you have 16, 32 or 64Gb of memory, do you really need to carry anymore data on your phone? I think I'd just move to my laptop for stuff like that.

Apps nowadays can easily be a gb or more, particularly games. That and music fills up 16gb in no time

Stumped as to why you think a plastic phone is going to fall apart more so than an aluminium one? Have you forgotten that majority of Samsung phones are plastic? And that apple too make a plastic flagship phone before (iPhone 3G).

Also like it or not expandable memory is dead. A combination of flash and cloud is the future and that's why apple have chosen it.

Its not that its dead, its just that it takes up space to include a housing for it.The chips are easily lost, Apple are already trying to remove the necessity of having a sim card, I doubt they'd revert back to expandable memory,

If the 5S is going to be the same type of upgrade as the 4S was, I wouldn't call it minor.

Sure the screen and body will look the same but internally everything will be upgraded.

    Better/faster processor

    Bigger battery

    Better camera

    Improved antennas

    Exclusive software

I'm still hoping for some kind of surprise. 99% of the rumours have been about the 5C.

Personally, non of the phone that have been announced so far going back to the htc One and GS4 Xperia Z to all the latest announcements have excited me.

Another reason for me to stay with Apple is that they make it extremely easy to swap defective products.

I sold my iPhone 5 ahead of the new release and got the Ativ S (as it was so cheap) to try a different OS/larger screen/AMOLED.

I'm ready now to go back to iOS and a phone that I can easily use with one hand.

Sure it's nice to show off photos and videos on a larger screen but that's only 1% of what I use a smartphone for.

If I really want to do some couch surfing I use my retina iPad, watching movies I reserve for my large screen Plasma.

Like I said in a different thread. My body is ready. :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,620 ✭✭✭Graham_B18C

While I agree that the 4s was a fairly big upgrade over the 4, the battery has yet to be as good as it was on the 4. Up to 300 hours standby on the 4, 200 on the 4s and 225 on the 5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

if the leaked parts for the 5S are real, it looks like they've shrank the main board ever so slightly to make room for a bigger battery. I'd hope the battery life would get better.

I kind of think the same way, different devices for different purposes.

Was a hint of a joke about them falling apart. My wondering was about the quality of the build really. The 4/4S had better build quality than the current 5 imo, as the back case was glass and less prone to scratch like the 5.

I have a 32gb 5. It suits me fine, but expandable memory is always better. Not everyone wants to put their stuff into the cloud and pay annual subscriptions for more space. At least you own the memory when you buy it, but that's not the case with clouds.

Its strange because from what I've heard from a guy I know is that Mavericks started development around the time Mountain Lion started. Probably a reason why developers were moved over to iOS development.

Not to mention how stable it is. I'd be surprised if it wasnt released this week along with the Haswell rMBP's.
