So who is heading to the ploughing this year in stradbally and is there anything there that will tickle your interest.
Might go for 2 days this year and trying to get my father to go with me. His last time was about 25 years ago and he managed to lose me in the crowd too :D

    I haven't decided yet, but I might.

The rumour is that there will be a competition for tickets on here in the coming weeks by one of the sponsors :D So stay tuned!

Also I have put forward the idea of a boards.ie marquee with tae, hang sandwiches and biscuits which they are considering :pac:

But it could be a few years before that gets off the ground!!

Ye going, missus wants to go as beng a city girl has never been.... have no idea why she wants too. Spent my childhood with the old man marking plots at it and actually being at the ploughing rather than the show. Think I've only been to it twice since, might even do a stint on the society stand too seeing I'll be there:).....

does anyone know if any new machines/innovations are being launched at this years show

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,543 ✭✭✭Conmaicne Mara

I'm going, mostly interested in the livestock stands and related equipment. Machinery and the ploughing itself does nothing for me :D

The best time to look at the ploughing is early in the morning too see the furrows being opened

I went last year after a long hiatus. I wouldn't go to it again if it was across the road from me.

I dont think you can compare last year to most years. Bad location and bad weather. Should be a lot better this year. Haven't been in three years so hoping to get there this year. Really enjoy the day out

Sure it wouldn't be the same if ya didnt see the school kids walking around covered from head to toe in muck. I'd say the bus drivers do have a heart attack at the end of the day :D

Location was fine for me not much more than an hour from my front door to parked up and weather was dry overhead on the day I was there. The rest was sh**e.

The bus driver for our local school left the kids behind at the ploughing last year. His wife was having a baby so he just took off and told no one!!!!!!

Will probably head down for one day if I can.
The only ploughing I like to see is the horse teams. And even that only has one or two really good teams.

Stock and stock handling equipment is interesting. Looking at big tractors isn't interesting to me.

but surly all that shiny stuff would attract ya for a little while, if nothing else to put ya off buying one with the price of it :D

Jay, it's not as if you were forced to go. Was it so hard to relax and enjoy a day out meeting people and seeing what's out there?

While the Ploughing mightn't be to everyone's test, it's not as if it's a school exam or something.

In fairness whats new and innovative to be seen at the ploughing? What machinery maker is launching anything new there? If you want to see proper stuff, save up the money wasted going to the ploughing for 3 years and jump on a plane and go see a proper show. I dont call 6hrs sitting in traffic not moving very relaxing like last year and then to be ridden for the admission fee which should be free considering your going to an advertisement of suppliers

im inclined to agree with ya there in entrance fee is a little high, even if they were a little cheaper if you prebooked them but you have to buy 10 or more to get a 10% discount. should be only max 15 euro if preordered i think

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,410 ✭✭✭bbam

I don't mind the fee too much as the infrastructure has improved vastly considering how poor it used to be.

It's the only show I go to so its ok.

I've not sat that long in traffic since the early 90s. We try and be onsite for 8am and away before 5pm. Beats the bad traffic.

Reilig dropped me a PM with permission so here goes.

To enter to win a set of tickets for the ploughing just email us your name and contact number to ploughing@farmaccounts.ie
(If you want include your boards name and if we receive more than 20 names from boards ill make sure 1 set of tickets goes a member of boards)

you can still enter via donedeal, adverts toplink and other advertisement sites for a chance to win one of the other 3 sets of tickets

So Reilig, 1 set for the boards members once we get 20 names

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,735 ✭✭✭lakill Farm

Keep them entries coming in ladies and gents. Its looking good for a exclusive draw for just the boards crew. :D.

I hope I don't get in trouble from the business partner tomorrow

to enter just email , ploughing@farmaccounts.ie

include your name, a contact number and your boards name so your included in that section of the draw.

Hi guys, thinking on going down to the ploughing this year, I was going to travel on the train does anyone know if there are shuttle buses Portlaoise or Athy to Ratheniska? The travel information on the site just mentions those two stations. doesn't mention if there are shuttle buses or what is the best way to travel from the train to the ploughing.

    Thanks in advance.

Looking forward to my 1st Ploughing Championship this year. Was at state fair in America a few years back but I reckon should be a bit better!
