Nice gesture but for a lot of people (including me) it'll just be the marlborough street/luas bridge. I don't know half the 'proper' names for bridges in Dublin and I'm from here!

That is to long, just call it the Hacha bridge.

    I love it.

I think some people might shorten it to The Rosie Bridge or Hackett Bridge but there doesn't seem to be a problem with the Samuel Beckett Bridge or Sean O'Casey Bridge being too long.

Islandbridge was originally named after a woman (Countess of Westmoreland) but was re-named in 1922. It's still sometimes referred to as Sarah's Bridge.

And Mellows Bridge (Smithfield Bridge) was at one point named after Queen Meadbh.

There's a couple of others I think, they (and the two I've mentioned) were re-named after the "Free State" was established.

    This is great news

Rosie was an amazing woman. Her feminism and Socialism clearly improved the lives of many working women and men in Dublin who were suffering through severe poverty.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Tbqh most people I know shorten the bridge names anyway - like they would call the Samuel Beckett Bridge the Beckett Bridge. It's rare I'd hear it called by the full name!

I'm liking this one, nice choice. :) Would love to see something named after Bermingham though!
