What is your goal?

    I'm curious, if you had to name your one primary goal what would it be?

    Increase fitness level?
    Increase muscle mass?
    Decrease Bodyfat?
    Increase 1RM figures?
    Powerlifting Competitor?
    Compete in Bodybuilding?
    Strongman?
    Runner, Cyclist, Swimmer etc?
    Any others?

    Feeding off of this do you believe that your training is as focused as it could be on that one goal? Or do you find yourself getting derailed by other secondary goals?

    People sometimes ask what you goal is, expecting a specific answer.... Like your goal has to be precise and you can't move from that.

    My goal could be said as all the above, My main priority would be Strength.......but even that can mean different things to different people.

    Goals can also vary with time. So If I answered with something like "My goal is general strength, fitness, this and that. People would be like "you don't have a specific goal, you're not going to get anywhere"

    But it could be that I have multiple goals, that change as progress happens, I can't sum up in a sentence all my short term or long term goals.
    My long term goal sounds vague anyway....- To be the strongest version of myself.

    I know what you mean, it's not always easy to pin it that easily to one area. I'd be of the believe that to get to and end goal like your own, you would need a series of S.M.A.R.T. goals, measurable etc. I suppose I'm acknowledging that you could have multiple goals but right now, what's your primary and are you training accordingly for that?

    Reason I started the thread is that my goals would be more aligned to the bodybuilding side of the house than the powerlifting side, but sometimes the ego kicks off I go through short phases of worrying about number etc.

    I guess that's one of the biggest issues for some people starting out, Is picking a specific goal and training accordingly. I think a lot of people can be like "I want to do it all" Train for hypertrophy but then also chase numbers.

    EDIT: and people also get overwhelmed by all the different programs online.

    I train in a gym where LPC train so admittedly it is hard when I'm doing say a cycle of GVT for example, and might only be at 75% of my max while the lads are squatting 300+. The ego is gurgling away but I suppose that's all part of the discipline and being able to follow a plan correctly and keeping aligned with my goals.

    I want to pick a goal that supports my overall goal, and spend 4-6 weeks a time working on that.

    Right now my goals;
    100kg @ 10%
    Triple BW DL
    Snatch test w/ 32kg KB

    Plan;

    2013;
    Smolov jr for DL, training heavy KB snatch too - 4 weeks
    Couple of down weeks
    Gillingham DL cycle - 12 weeks
    Pull 3x bw

    2014;
    3x GVT cycles back to back

    Nice and specific plan, confident you'll stick to that? Will you hit the platform with that DL figure then?

    Looking to get to 150% BW bench, 200% BW squat, 250% BW deadlift. They're all a long way off. My original goal was to just build back up some muscle and see what happened. Bearing in mind i run and play football i didn't want to get overly bulky. I don't know if I can hit the goals i started with if i'm balancing with football and running but i'll see where I can get and if the 'happy medium' is below that,so be it. I just enjoy working out and that in itself is a reward, especially when i make little improvements along the way.

    As a side note you train in raw yeah? Talk to me some day about making those numbers a reality :)

    My own immediate goals - 300kg raw squat, 700+ total @100kg in the GPC/IPO.

    Fine figure for a raw squat :-) Are you competing in the IPO single lifts in Eastway Fitness this month?

    I could help with that too - Don't be shy!

    Nah, bit soon for me. GPC open in November maybe - otherwise nationals next year, or the year after. whenever the numbers I want are in me I'll be there, not before.

    I could have a similar goal except I don't think I'll ever grow up.

    This thread has inspired me to pick some concrete goals:
    • 2.5BW deadlift by year's end;
    • 1st bar muscle-up; and
    • Unweighted pistol squat.

    I don't doubt it. The diet is the bigger issue. I'm nowhere near getting what I need to to build the muscle I need to at the minute. Partly cos I just don't have the appetite for it. Once I get my head around that part, I'm ready to take the next leap.

    Mine is to be consistent. I have the training anddiet info I need but I would have a good week here ythen an okish week then do sweet f all thrn bck to it... if I can be consistent I think I'll see huge improvements. Especially if I can get the diet consistent

    Pro total within the next year to two years.

    That's a 1,025kg total @ 125kg.

    Am I doing everything to make this happen?!! Yes and Yes!

    Goal over next 5 years- squat 1,000lbs.

    Hit the platform next on Sunday week as a practice run for my bench at the IPO single lifts before the real deal at WPC Worlds in Prague!

    See you there, just bench. Deadlift ain't in the plan to max that week so a no no.

    I'm lifting on the last day of worlds, Saturday 2nd Nov.

    Really looking forward to it.

    I'm improving and that's all I can do and the rest will sort itself out.

    And cheers I appreciate it.

    What percentage of lifters who compete in feds other than idfpa would be enhanced? Just curious. Hard to say I know.

    Why even speculate? The federations are untested so lifters are free to take any PEDs they wish.

    Semi long term it's 220kg deadlift, 120kg bench, 180kg squat by the end of next year. Not sure how realistic this is though as I'm taking a change in focus for the next few months and my numbers have started to slow down. Take it as it comes though and see how I get on.

    the more specific your goal is the more likely you will achieve it. Get one goal and break it up into smaller goals to get there.

    Specifically my goal is to get stronger.
    to do this i need to get more flexible.

    So my current targets are improving these two aspects.

    Once I am flexible and strong I will reassess my goal.

    What are the parameters for 'strong' and 'flexible'?

    I want to a 2BW DL, 1.5BW Squat and 1.25BW Bench.Id say Im pretty close and will test after my current programme.

    Just because a lot of people on here compete in these feds and I read previous threads where people are bashing the idfpa. So I wondered if people were competing there for the reason of being untested or the fact they dont like the idfpa.

    Those are my general goals,

    If I'm to split them into smaller targets then:
    more mobility in hips, ankles, shoulders, thoracic spine. Working to be able to get into a decent low bar squat, good form dead lift, and a proper front squat. then concentrate on getting good depth.

    consistent increase in current program.

    don't have a specific target, but increase in deadlift probably up to 150kg(currently 110)
    squat 150 currently 100
    bench 100, currently 70
    row 70->100
    complete 8-10 pull ups/dips, currently doing assisted

    I think my flexibility will limit my strength before I get near those totals. So I will probably have to focus on that more strictly in the up coming months.

    working with a physio a few trainers and other medical professionals to get there.

    At the risk of further completely derailing this thread..

    From my persepctive its neither and I don't know why you'd assume it has to be one or the other - I prefer IPO/GPC because they allow knee wraps and the timing of their comps have suited me better over the past couple years. End of story. Am lifetime drug free and proud of it but couldn't give a **** what other people take, that's their business... its fun to play with the big boys :) Makes it even more satisfying when you can hold your own against them too.

    Only criticism I've ever really seemed aimed at the IDFPA is on the basis of its supposed exclusion of people competing of even helping out in other feds. But they don't enforce it - so its a bit of a non-issue at this stage. I have no personal issue against the IDFPA, and I know plenty of other drug free guys that compete in all three feds that would agree with me. I've actually read more criticism of the GPC on here then the IDFPA too

    Current goals:

    Squat 180kg
    Bench 115kg
    Deadlift 200kg

    at ~80kg.

    When I hit those, I'll aim higher.
